The Economist The Obama Administration Should Have Listened To

Commented Nov 12, 2009 at 13:30:44 in Business

“I guess you aren't kept abreast of the news. Obama saved us from a Depression. the jobless number is down more than expected, the dow is over 10,000, the GDP is up.

My question is how do people without jobs pay for mortgages no matter how low the principal is lowered. This guy is another 20/20 hindsight guy. I have no interest in hearing these fools who didn't predict September 2008. NOW EVERYBODY has the answers. It too a long time to get into this mess and it will take a long time to get in this mess.

You have to convice me why I should vote for the same people that put us in this mess. That would be a little stupid don't you think. Obama has 4 years and has gotten a lot done so far. Jobs are a lagging indicator. The american public didn't take the time to update to skills of the 21st century. Obama can't fix that for you. Take the Tea Party and beg the Private Sector to give you a job. If you ask Obama for a job you are asking for the gov to get bigger, something the Right is vehemently against! On well. We all have to suck it up. We are fresh out of "magic Bullets" no matter who you put into office.”

“Um EVERYBODY else has been talking NOT Obama. He was waiting to see if Karzi was going to be re-elcted and he was. Now he is factoring that bit of bad news into it. All generals ask for more troops and all neocons want endless wars as they never have a domestic agenda. Obama seems to be on the right track, but we won't know untill HE MAKES the decision, not the press, not HP, not the bloggers. These are the hard decisions we elected him to make. My money is on Obama making the RIGHT decision. Lord knows Bush and Cheney did not.”

“That bit of bad news, he went on the air and said Karzai has our full support, but we'll give him a couple of months to clean up his act. Who are we too to give another head of state a ultimatium, especially one who is doing all this corruption with our consent. What is wrong with us drawing down. You know it's easy for everybody to say that eventually he'll make the right decision, but this happening now so a decision needs to be made now by Obama not Bush or Cheney because those two chickenhawks are gone and they could care less.”

“I am really tired of political answers. Obama looking for the Right answer, now the political one. We can't hold our politicians feet to the fire when circumstances on the ground change. The fact that the corrupt Karzi government was re-elected is a HUGE deal. why should we lose our men propping up a corrupt government that is working aginst us. Obama has the guts to do the right thing.”

“Moral of the story: Don't threaten the President. Especially don't threaten the President if you have 43 guns in your house. I guess the gun enthusiast in here have fotgotten the story of the young man in Pittsburgh who assassinated 3 Police Officers because he thought Obama was going to take his guns. You have to take these threats seriously. I disliked Bush as a President, but I would neer want anyone to harm him. These are Americans we are talking about.”

The republican govenors are sitting on the money so they can say it's not working. The only think working in America right now is OBAMA! Cut him some slack. “It's a little tough when you have the Opposition working AGAINST you all the time. For example - Every STATE has refused to take any of the prisoners. All the countries still hate bush and don't want to take HIS prisoners so what would you do? Obama made the mistake of thinking our people in Congress were grown up and wanted to do what's best for the Country. Why he is finding out is that the GOP ONLY cares about getting re-elected to do nothing yet again. This certainly makes an already difficult job damn near impossible. Obama can't be bipartisan by himself. We have Three branches of government for a reason. Number 1 the Presidency and Number 3 the Surpeme Court are working for the country. Number 2 the Congress is as usual working for re-election and themselves. We the people have the power to change that by calling the opposition party and telling them to get on the train or get out of the way of progress.”

“What I love about Obama is that he is willing to LISTEN to everyone's point of view. After all, Obama is not the expert in War. Obama questions and then listens. But make no mistake, the decision will be Obama's and Obama's alone since he will alone rise or fall on it and I have no doubt this President will make the right decision based on the facts on the ground at this point.

The only reason this came up is because of the Afghani election which is plagued with corruption! Obama rightly qeustions whether or not we should put precious American lives on the line to help ressurrect a government where the leaders aren't willing to help. This makes no sense. He called a halt and is waiting to see if there will be a runoff election. This is prudent and smart. The problem with the Bush wars is that they plodded ahead despite what the facts on the ground showed. They "stuck" to the plan to our detriment! Obama is a very smart man with a great temprement - Thanks God he is the President in these crucial times when we have problems on ALL fronts - both foreign and domestic. I can't imagine the shape we would be in if McCain were President and Palin were the Vice President (possilbly thie President since the stress literally made McCain sick)

Give this team the time they need to fix all these colossal messes.”

“I have grown weary of people suggesting that the SURGE worked. Here is why the SURGE is perceived to have worked: By the time Bush decided to SURGE, the Sunnis and Shiites had already had their "ethnic" cleansing. Prior to OUR INVASION, the Sunnis and the Shiites lived, worked and married together. AFTER our INVASION, they then separated by SIDES since We already decided that the Sunnis must be the bad guys since Saddam was one of them. Well the Sunnis killed all the Shiites in their neighborhoods and vice versa. The major killing had already been done but the time of the Surge.

This is like 2 weeks after the Riots in Watts were over and THEN the police show up in force and claim it was their efforts that stopped the riots! Hogwash!”

Ayrianna if you want someone to make a statement, then encourage all the Number 2s at the Health Care companies to resign. That would show their contempt for what THEIR bosses are doing to the American people.

BTW - Biden is NOT questioning whether or not we should stay in Afghanistan, he is arguing that we should not escalate. Two very different scenarios!”

Obama has not even revealed his plan. He has one more Security Council meeting. I think AH is jumping the gun. There is no indication that Obama and Biden are NOT on the same side. 1. Medical malpractice payments is only 1% of the insurance company payments - big deal
2. Why don't they tell us how they would tear apart the current Individual State Regulation of Insurance to make it portable. Do they have a price on that.
3. Why he is wanting the govement OUT of Health Insurance - his GOP buddies are all over TV asking Obama (the government) to provide jobs. Why don't they ask the "free market" to provide jobs. Why are they going to the health care and financial companies and demanding jobs. They surely don't think the gov should be in the jobs business - they "free market" will take care of it.”

“I couldn't agree more. Obama is considering many different perspectives before he reaches a decision. Extreme and provocative decision making became the norm in Washington for eight years. It will take time for people to accept that this president governs thoughtfully. I've seen several people over the last few months calling Obama a wimp for not making prompt decisions. To put it simply, he's not a gunslinger. His decisions may not always be popular, but they will be well informed.”

I cannot imagine him adding the stress of running the State of NJ in such poor health. He is literally a heart attack waiting to happen.
