“No high school football players allowed either? They take up space too. How about tall people? The airline seat spacing doesn't allow them to sit with their knees directly in front of them and they have to turn their knees one way or the other.”

“Ah, pay by the pound------then oriental people will usually pay less than white and men will almost always pay more than women. This works out for me but somehow I think there would be complaints. Airlines should have a certain number of seats per flight to accommodate people.”

“The people in the 1980's didn't have to fit in these seats because the seats were considerably bigger at that time and the leg room was considerably more. Airlines have, on several occasions, decreased both the seat size and the seat spacing in order to cram more people on airplanes. It's ridiculous. There ought to be a law.”

Only thin people deserve to see their families at the Holidays and fat people shouldn't be allowed to travel unless they're wealthy enough to purchase two seats on an airplane? How about people who have to take their oxygen with them? People with handicaps and disabilities? It used to be people with skin other than white. Maybe the answer is for airlines to be required to go back to having seats the size they were around 1975 when it was possible to get comfortable on an airplane and people taller than 5'8" didn't have to eat their knees during a long flight because there was enough room for their legs.”

The man is standing and is part way into the isle. If he were sitting, he would have to be split in two at the immovable isle arm rest. There are a lot of people who are offended by obesity, just as there are a lot of people who are offended by gays and blacks and Muslims and a lot of other people. If America makes it illegal for anyone other than the skinny to fly, there will be a lot of empty airplanes. America is not a skinny country.”

“I don't know about all Texas juries. That's pretty broad. But, my family did have an experience with the Texas legal system that makes one wonder. My brother, who was in the army, was stationed in Texas. One night he had a pass and was on his way home. A Texas Ranger stopped him, strode up to the car, jerked him out the driver's window, threw him across the hood and cuffed him. Then he talked. Turned out they were looking for a car and my brother had the bad luck to be driving one somewhat like the one they were looking for. After that was established and my brother was released, he asked the officer if he would like to say he was sorry for the bruises. The Ranger said, "Texas Rangers don't apologize" and drove off.”

“The guilty argument might hold more weight if the state of Texas hadn't interfered with the investigation. If they're so sure that they did the right thing, why stop the investigation by kicking three people off the committee? I don't know what the truth is, but I do know that it would be a heavy weight to carry if you later discovered that you had been a part of the process that condemned an innocent man to death. I don't envy the jurors.”

“I'll be unpopular here. This may be the worst thing I've ever heard or it may just be unconventional. Somebody should ask the kids if it's a game they like. Were they in the trunk as a game for less than ten minutes or were they in the trunk and afraid for a long time? There is nothing inherently evil about being in a clean, carpeted trunk for a few minutes if you think it's a fun game and if it only lasts a few minutes. Could the dad see the car from inside the shop? Was it too hot or too cold outside? My kids loved playing in big cardboard boxes and begged me to fold the flaps closed so they could play cave. Was it mean of me to do it? Somebody should ask the kids. If the kids were having a good time and if they were safe, then it seems a bit of a travesty to threaten this man's right to raise his children just because he does something unconventional.”

“Too many of us are still recovering from this stuff for you to convince us that this was all in jest. Too many of us were teens on the receiving end of all this Christian right junk. We lived it. We survived. We resent the heck out of it. On the basis of our own experiences, we don't find this stuff hard to believe at all. It conforms perfectly with our experiences. “Oh my gosh, thinking about all the things they told us were against God. I went to a Seventh Day Adventist boarding school in high school. Sneaking out for a Big Mac with your family was displeasing to God. Holding hands was evil. Being late for chapel was sinful, regardless the reason. Of course dancing, cards, alcohol, cigs, drugs and sex or near sex would send you straight to hell. If your dress was a half inch shorter than their rule, it was an occasion of sin. Sleeveless was bad. Wearing a watch on a chain around your neck was bad because it tempted men, on the faculty, to look at your boobs. You could eat---what they told you to eat, you could work, you could study hard and that's about it if you wanted to be free of sin. Saturday nights they had "socials". You were cordially invited to attend----record would be taken. They were fun filled times i.e. they showed the movie Pollyanna every year. Luckily for me, I was poor and had no parents so I had to work three jobs at the school in order to pay my way there and had no free time at all to "Sin".”
