On Making The Road

Commented Nov 25, 2009 at 14:50:55 in Entertainment

“It is a mark of good literature to give embark to debate. I also thought that the book was truly a love story between a man and his son. My Mother, however, thought it was the darkest book she had ever read.

Mom and I had a good debate about the movie, "Doubt", which was also a piece that inspired one's own interpretation.”

He has shifted the whole Wall Street mess to everyone's attention on this failed public option. And people are still being foreclosed on. So, there is no health care coverage and now no home. I would say that is a fine job.”

A New Wrinkle in the JFK Assassination Story

Commented Oct 31, 2009 at 20:56:18 in Books

“All you have to do is look at the footage of the convertible, where his reflexes and his head are.....there is no way that one man killed JFK. No way.

His head was thrown forward from being hit in the back of the neck....and the very next thing was his head was thrown back and skull was detached from the back of the head. Jackie even crawls over the back of the car to retrieve. There were two bullets coming from different directions. It is in black and white footage.”

skatoolaki replied on Nov 02, 2009 at 10:25:49

“I don't think Jackie was attempting to "retrieve" anything. I think she was in shock and was either trying to get help or get away, or maybe both. I would imagine her mind was in complete shock and she did not know what she was doing - it was likely a reflex. The idea that she was attempting to retrieve part of his head is fairly preposterous; I doubt that's where her mind was at that moment. Help was probably all she could think - help him, help me, get me out of here, omg. The poor woman was in total shock.”

“Her report glosses over many aspects of women in business and the world. Mainly that women CONTINUE to make $0.78 to a man's dollar, we are WAY under-represented in the higher escelons of business, government and student government.

Younger women are still given the message through media that the way to get ahead is by being sexy and using your breasts instead of your brains.

I'm not sure how far we've actually gotten, Maria. Your report is quite skewed.”

Mental Illness: The Stigma of Silence

“I have a sister who suffers from schizophrenia and a brother who suffers from bi-polar disorder. As a sibling, I have struggled between anger and sympathy for my lot in life. I choose to not ignore, not be silent about our family's struggles. It amazes me how when I talk openly about the issue of mental illness, SO many people open up and share their family's story. You would be surprised at how wide-reaching this illness is. I don't think I have talked to many people who didn't have a family member or a relative that struggles with mental illness.

It is the last known compartment of our society it is openly accepted to discriminate against. It is shameful.

My oldest sister now is very very ill and is aging. You wouldn't believe the conditions of the facilities that are available to an aging mental patient. Let me tell you, friends, it isn't pretty.

I challenge you, Glenn, to use your celebrity to make a documentary on the horrendous conditions in which these patients have to live. If there was another section of our population that had to live in these conditions, we would be up-in-arms....and yet, it is tolerated.”

Gross behavior.

In all the EIGHT years that we had to put up with Bush, I don't remember any of this type of behavior. Perhaps a sign that said "Impeach Bush" but of course, that procedure is a legal one.

“Check out this map from Southern Poverty Law Center:
http://www.splcenter.org/intel/map/hate.jsp
With California, one of the "bluest" states in the nation having the highest number of hate groups, you can see that this sort of thing is not unique to "red-neck state(s)." Indeed, looking at the map there seems to be more a correlation of population (and relative poverty) to hate groups than, necessarily, "red-neck"ness.

This kind of behavior was going on when W was around and before.

"The Kill" by Emile Zola

I was astonished when I finally read this book this summer. The book was written in the late 1800's and it was all about the fall of Parisian real estate due to speculative buying. Fascinating and amazing that the old adage about "history repeats itself" was so laid out in black and white.”

It reminded me of Jon Stewart taking down Jim Cramer earlier this summer. And the book was published in Sweden in the early 2000's.”

“Are you kidding? The only reason that Obama is now on health care....it is to turn everyone's attention away from their neighbors being kicked out of their homes in foreclosure. Don't look at what's behind curtain #1 because I will show you a magic act on stage instead.

No, Obama has done nothing to slow the tide of foreclosures and now he is taking everyone's attention away from that losing argument.....it is a sad day for America.....ladies and gentleman, you need to look at what's behind curtain #1 becasuse it is your neighbors that are moving out of their homes and onto the street. “I can't prove what I think is true. But we will all see in a couple of months. By Jan, healthcare will be behind us one way or another (pass or fail).

I am a leftist liberal and consider Obama to be a centerist at best. He isn't liberal. But most of what people want isn't even all that liberal. It is just sensible.

If he doesn't get at least those major things done, then I would agree that he failed. But he hasn't failed yet. The righties have been on their path of destruction for decades. It may take Obama a couple of years to get things turned in the proper direction.

That being said, I know that we may not get a public option like we should. That is disappointing. But it isn't over yet. I can't believe anyone would be minimizing the massive importance of healthcare reform.

You just mentioned foreclosures. All the statistics show that a large percentage of foreclosures and bankruptcies are a result of medical bills. And 140,000 Americans die every year from survivable conditions but they had no healthcare.

How is that a small thing?

Obama has until Nov 2010 to prove himself. If he has done well and delivered on at least a few things and turned the direction on some others, then the Dems will do well. If not, they will lose badly and Obama won't get anything done during his last 2 years.”

“You need to keep pressure on your elected representatives to pay attention to the American people, we are the ones who put them there, not the corporations. Write and call your representatives weekly, and let them know your position on the many issues that are on the table right now. Get your friends and family to do the same. The more pressure they get the more likely they will begin to listen. It won't be easy defeating the corpoate barons with all their money and power, but if we don't try and try hard to take back our country, it was never our to begin with.”
