Peter Hain Slams Tory 'Rewriting' Of History, Accuses Conservatives Of 'Complicity' With Apartheid Regime

Peter Hain Slams Tory 'Rewriting' Of History, Accuses Conservatives Of 'Complicity' With Apartheid Regime

“I think Mfa11e's point is that change was necessary but when change occurred the international community was so busy indulging in self-congratulatory grapples that it didn't consider that wonderfully inspiring leaders were not enough..... infrastructure was necessary to support communities through the changes safely and this was not put in place- consequently, thousands and thousands have been murdered in a country that is quickly going the same way as Zim. The poor are as poor but their numbers have swelled and the ethnic diversity of the poor has increased- now black, white and asian can live side by side in little corregated tin huts in vast shanty towns.”

John Kerridge on Dec 9, 2013 at 18:55:56

“White majority rule was unsustainable, morally corrupt, repugnant and murderous. I totally understand where you are coming from I just don't believe its was deliverable. The tide of change was unstoppable there was no credible alternative that could have been provided with the time without civil war breaking out.”

Ian Haworth on Dec 10, 2013 at 08:19:19

“Having to flee South Africa, as the Hain family were forced to do having been declared "enemies of the state," is hardly equivalent to buying an album. Some people showed real courage during those cruel times and should be recognised for doing such.”
Parliamentary Watchdog Ipsa Hands MPs £7,600 Pay Rise

Parliamentary Watchdog Ipsa Hands MPs £7,600 Pay Rise

Commented Dec 8, 2013 at 06:16:23 in UK Politics

“Some MPs make exorbitant salary claims for their wives/husbands/sons/daughters to work in the office either at the Commons or in the constituency as "office managers" i.e opening envelopes to see if there's any money inside. Many MPs claim for second homes- not teeny studio flats where they crash during the week but family sized homes....if they have no family life, why the need for a large second home? And why should they (italics) get a family life when millions of workers in this country spend their days commuting or working such long hours that by the time they get home the children are in bed? Why should MPs get special treatment? The recommendation came from Ipsa - the only reason the MPs disapprove of Ipsa is because they squashed their expenses. Many public servants have also not had pay rises for several years so again I ask you why should MPs get special treatment? As for "most MPS work around 80 hours per week".....they actually claim (italics) to work an average of 69 hours (Hansard study 2011) per week but they get a nice 6 week summer hol as well as other annual leave entitlements and they get paid a basic salary of £65K ish- a teacher for example works 50 hours a week on average, has no expense account, no second home entitlement, no subsidised bars, no ability to pay wayward offspring nepotistic salaries for sitting around the office, no resettlement grant and is paid significantly less.”

“Well, I actually think people do have a right to their own opinions, even the distasteful ones, that's part of living in a democracy- however Abu went further into the promotion of racial hate. I think your choice of analogy is flawed- Elton John is not preaching for the murder and annihilation of heterosexuals but rather for tolerance....... ? By YOUR logic, Martin Luther King junior and Gandhi should have been silenced immediately for speaking out against unjust regimes....?? It sounds like you'd rather it were a totaliatarian type regime where only the state authorised opinions were allowed?”

“By your logic Abu Hamza was right to preach anti-British sermons. It was what he believes to be right and proper.
Why should he preach his personal belief/choice ? It's personal to him, just as Hamza's was to him.
Think about it.”

“That did make me laugh. The joys of having a big brother. My brother and his friends used to throw cans at my head and then bribe me with skittles not to tell mum. I used to take their skittles, haggle for a bag of minstrels and then still grass them up. I'm glad I'm not the only one knocking heads off dolls though, that makes me feel less like a lone psycho.”

Terrible photo of the lorry crushing the light blue car....it doesn't say what happened to the driver the light blue car? I have to say, I think the poeple walking their dog on the sea promenade in Rhyl are pretty stupid- I don't give a hoot if they get swept away but why risk the little terrier off the lead in such waves?”

“Well, I sort of agree, but I sort of don't too. It's like the whole Child Benefit system. An acquaintance had a lovely 4 bedroomed house in leafy Surrey bought outright for her by her dad (lovely), has a trust fund of £1500 per month (lovely), has no need to work (so doesn't, lovely) but stays at home and churns out children....and claims child benefit for them all. Sure, her father has paid out hundreds of thousands if not millions in taxes so why not claim benefits? .....However, I take the view that there are legal entitlements....but there are moral considerations and personally I take the view that if you don't need (italics) the benefit money then leave it in the system for those who truly do. Unfortunately we now live in a culture where the focus is inward on the individual needs not outwards on the needs of the tribe.”

“Well said. I agree with the other post you made too.
It makes good sense to invest as early as possible in children, as without support many stand to not to make much of themselves later in life. Without free school meals the better off kids will still thrive. It's a form of social investment. The earlier the better and less cost to the taxpayer in the future.”

“NO she didn't. Just because you state something does not make it true. I can state that "at least Hitler encouraged everyone to have respect for authority"......NO he didn't. Simply saying it doesn't make it true. She ripped the guts from the country to increase the wealth of a top percentile. Again that has happened in this country and I'm sick of the self serving buzzards picking over our carcass and the working class is expected to doff our hats at the oligarchy and THANK them for doing us the service of guzzling down our still warm entrails so we don't have to trouble them by dragging our decimated cadavers into the gutter. The free loaders, the bloated cream of society has always been there, but Thatcher celebrated them like no other leader since WWII. You were very clear in the way you see the world - haves and have not. Don't bother back peddling to redefine to some obscrure and inaccurate meaning of the term have not. You said haves and have nots. When you gasp your last as we all will, I wonder if your mountain of things brings you some comfort.”

“I am a have-not without doubt. I have no respect for the yuppy culture that destroyed the economy in the 80's and destroyed it again in recent years- if you think it's acceptable to indulge in that kind of behaviour then you too are a blight on the decent truly working class people of this country who are supporting the freeloading bankers and the financial risk takers of this country.”

pennyford on Nov 29, 2013 at 13:15:29

“Hi Kate, by 'have-not' I meant someone who is jealous of anyone who is well off. As for not having anything, I exist on the old age pension topped up with pension credit - £140.00 per week. The free-loaders you described were created by the Blair years - at least Mrs thatcher encouraged everyone to have respect for themselves.”
