“This isn't a difference of opinion. This is a misrepresentation of facts - plain and simple. There absolutely is a scientific consensus. 90% of scientists agree on the cause and 94% of them agree that it is a danger to human life in the very near future. That's a very clear consensus.”

“I do not believe, for one minute, that suspected terrorists are allowed onto planes on purpose to "catch them in the act." All that is needed is to catch them trying to board a plane with explosives, not to catch them trying to set those explosives off.”

“I agree. And I'm not buying into the hype that this bill is designed to lock out future changes or that it will decrease health care or that it will raise the cost of health insurance across the board. In case anyone missed it, health insurance has been going up at many times the rate of inflation for the past few years. People who can't afford insurance under this bill will get subsidies, without this bill they get nothing.
No, it's not perfect. In fact, it is far from good, much less perfect. But it is a first step and we HAVE to take that first step. If we don't, it's all downhill from here.”

2009 Hall of Shame Inductees

“I'm so tired of all the Tiger bashing. He never held himself up as a moral leader. It seems to me that there has been more than one sports figure in the news this year for much more despicable acts than womanizing. Unfortunately, they didn't get the kind of press that Tiger Woods did because their behavior wasn't as titillating so, now, even I can't remember who they were or what they did.”

“More than a dozen women. Many of which he was paying. Charlie Sheen never claimed to be a "moral leader" either -- but he got slammed for paying women for... attention. Although, come to think of it, he wasn't married with children at the time... just later.
George Clooney goes through women like water through a sieve. We'll be happy for him when he meets that one man he's always been looking for. You notice George doesn't get slammed -- because he does it one at a time, like any sensible person, and doesn't hide his affairs. And he isn't married with children.
You think maybe that the fact that Tiger is MARRIED WITH CHILDREN might have some influence over the whole "affairs" thing? Or that paying them off (in this economy??!?!) might have some bearing on the response?
And don't think we're not dissing his taste in women, because we really, really are. The man even tried to PAY OFF HIS WIFE. And because she's just like his mistresses, she not only took the payoff, she continued with the divorce plans. Because that's what women like that do. And that's the sort of women Tiger picked, out of all the thousands of classy, exciting, homemaking, open-minded women he could have had.
And don't worry. In a year or two, Tiger will be in the "I can't remember who or what" pile, too.”

“I am so glad it's finally over and I'm thrilled that Russell did not win. I'm not happy that he won the $100,000 but that's just spite because I loathe him. It seemed to me that he put more effort into the game that anyone else and for that he has my grudging respect. I'm still thrilled that he finally got blindsided and lost the million. And I loved his sore loser reaction!
But, oh, what a way to take the joy out of seeing Russell lose - giving the million to Sister Nat, the bible thumper. I can just hear all her fellow thumpers claiming she proved that prayer really does work.
Thank you, Tallulah, for keeping me entertained this season with your hilarious posts. I have far better things to do than actually watch this show (even cleaning out the litter box is more enjoyable) but reading your recaps has been the highlight of my week. I'm looking forward to much, much more.”

“Yes, seeing Russell brought down by losing was the highlight of the finale.
I certainly would have preferred seeing MickMoron use the money to pay off his medical school debts than have it go to Sister Nat. Her church will probably con her out of most or all of it, and then use it for evil.
If you love cleaning out cat boxes so well, you are welcome to come by and clean out mine. (though just the one the cat uses. The larger one I use is a two-man job) Little Dougie always complains when I make him do it.”

“I feel the same as you about Russell. I was disgusted he lasted as long as he did and I still can't understand why. Maybe it is because so many of the other players were willing to make a deal with the devil in the hopes that they could gain ground. Well, they got what they deserved.
I think Shambles lasted as long as she did because everyone realized how stupid she was and didn't see her as that much of a threat.”

Demi Moore's Hip, and Handling the Truth
Commented Dec 21, 2009 at 12:21:51 in Entertainment
“Ms. Moore and her attorney obviously did not actually read your article but relied on the gossipy, twisted retellings of it for their information. If they had actually read your article they would have noticed that you were, more or less, standing up for her over a bad re-touch job.
However, if Demi Moore would like the world to think that she's weirdly shaped on the left side of her body, I say go ahead and print a retraction. Tell the world that the photo was not retouched and that Demi Moore is, in fact, missing a chunk of her left hip. After all, how were you supposed to know that she was shaped like a badly cut out paper doll?”

Tiger Woods Is So, So, So Much Bigger Than Golf

“Well said!! Tiger's personal life has absolutely no impact on my life or my involvement in the game of golf - either playing or watching it played. TW never promised me he would be faithful to his wife, he never set himself up as a moral leader and he's never tried to tell me how I should live my life. I'm not going to try and tell him how to live his, either.”

Fire Robert Gibbs...Or At Least Make Him Apologize to Howard Dean
Commented Dec 18, 2009 at 13:23:13 in Politics
“Ridiculous. When Gibbs slams a Republican for making an opposing remark we all cheer. But when a Democrat makes an opposing remark the WH is supposed to roll over? This is politics at it's ugliest but that's all it is - politics. Dean has a lot of pull with many House Dems as well as many voters. The WH doesn't want the bill killed, although it does want it improved. So, the WH will naturally do what it can to nullify the effects of Dean's remarks.
All this whining about apologies and firing people is simply childish.”

“There's nothing wrong with the White House criticizing Dean's position on the merits. What's disturbing is their attacking his character and sanity for having the termerity to disagree with the White House.
That said, I think you nailed what's really going on: "Dean has a lot of pull with many House Dems as well as many voters. .. So, the WH will naturally do what it can to nullify the effects of Dean's remarks."
OK, tell us why you think Dean's wrong. Don't tell us that Dean's crazy.”

“When Oprah asked Obama to give himself a grade a memory came to mind of Barbara Walters interviewing Bette Midler and a couple of other "It" girls 20 or so years ago. She asked each one to rate themselves on a scale of 1 to 10. All the other little cuties gave their cute little smiles and said, "I'm a solid 7" or "I think I'm and 8 and a half" and other pap. Bette Midler said, "Hell, I'm a happening girl. I'm a 55!" I thought that was a killer answer to a totally stupid question. I wish Obama had given himself an A++++++. After all, anything he said would have been pounced on and derided by the right.
As for the rest of your beautifully written post, I can only say, you have put into words the way many of us are feeling. I'm sending a copy to the White House. I hope lots of people will do the same.”

“As I was reading this I thought back to the case of the daycare workers in Bakersfield that were charged with the sexual abuse of the children in their care and the demonization of these people over very shaky evidence. At the time, I thought the evidence sounded like somthing out of a bad B movie, I still do. But there were more people who were not only willing but, seemingly, anxious to believe the totally over-the-top tales. Years later, most of the children have recanted their stories and the methods used to elicit those stories have been called into question by expert after expert.
Now, it seems that one extreme has led to the other. Instead of demonizing a person without clear evidence, people are refusing to accept any possibility of guilt no matter how much evidence they are presented with. I look forward to the day when people can show some objectivity and restraint instead of immediately freaking out with an extreme opinion that lacks any basis in fact.”
