“I may not agree with everything he does, but the alternative would be very scary right now -- how many wars would we be fighting?”

“I teach college here in the U.S. near one of our largest bases for deployment to Iraq and Afghanistan. I have had several students who are pregnant soldiers. A couple of those soldiers explicitly told me that if they keep getting pregnant they won't be deployed. I'm not really into the whole war thing, but I figure if you voluntarily sign up, you should probably not get pregnant just to stay out of battle. I mean our tax payer dollars are paying for everything related to that pregnancy -- in addition to the soldier who has to go to war because they are not. I wonder just how prevalent this phenomena is here?”

“OK its Obama's fault. No, its Congress' fault. No wait, its all that money in politics. Oh yeah, and those corporate bast*rds who only want to make money.

Actually it is our fault. The American people. The people who keep voting in those same Members of Congress. Who voted for Obama and then sat back and waited for him to magically fix everything. And just love to sit around and wait for things to happen. The big changes in this country did not come from Presidents or Members of Congress until huge social movements created the atmosphere necessary for change. That atmosphere is not happening now. We are fat and lazy and content to sit behind our computers blaming everyone but ourselves.

Why weren't we outraged after Enron? Why weren't we outraged after the Savings and Loan scandal? Why didn't we demand stricter regulations? Why? Because maybe, just maybe, we are going to be one of those fat cats one day. We secretly love it when the rich get away with stuff because we are going to be one of those rich folks one day. That's why we don't want America to have a safety net or regulation because it might interfere with our own wealth creation. Corporations are out of control because we allow it and think its OK until it might affect our our pocketbook. (You didn't call for regulation when your 401K was making money, now did you?)

Its time to look in the mirror.”

“Regardless of this bill, I want to keep Democrats in power -- elections have consequences far beyond the yahoos in Congress. At the bureaucratic level, large shifts are taking place to change what happened in the Bush years. The FDA, Interior, elections, civil rights commissions, etc. etc. etc. -- hundreds, if not thousands of employees, are going back to their mission statements to protect the environment, workers rights, and the public. Your esteemed member of congress may be a corporate shill, but a lot of people working hard in the trenches want to change things back to being civil servants, not political servants to the Bush administration. It does matter who is in power.”

“OK, now I get it from reading these posts. The insurance companies want you to get free mammograms and pap smears so that you have a pre-existing condition that they don't have to cover. If you are poor and are diagnosed early, then you just get to know longer that you will die needlessly. I guess that's what you get for being poor: the pain and suffering that you deserve. Gee, I hope I'm not the only angry and bitter person here, because the lack of compassion by some people is just too much. Get angry!”

“Awesome. If we can just get a bunch more poor people to die without health care, then we will be able to pay for universal health care. I don't know why no one paid attention to my idea of sending old people to fight in Iraq and Afghanistan -- I mean what a great idea -- we would have all the soldiers we needed and when they got killed off we wouldn't have to pay for their social security or medicare. It combines death panels and war -- wait, I'm getting an idea for a video game.....

P.S. For those of you without a sense of irony or sarcasm, please ignore the above.”
