“I noticed the reference to fluoride as well as was very surprised! Here is a page on the NaturalNews site with articles about dangers of fluoride: http://www.naturalnews.com/fluoride.html. I use a natural fluoride-free and Sodium Lauryl Sulfate-free toothpaste and have no cavities (and am 40 years old). ~ Kim Duess”

“I love to hear success stories about oil pulling! I learned about it 2 years ago and do it every morning. I made the mistake of using hemp oil for the first few months and my teeth started to turn a bit yellow so I switched to the recommended coconut oil which does a fantastic job! I wrote a blog post on it for those who would like to learn more: http://www.you-be-healthy.com/2009/08/oil-pulling-natural-healing-remedy/ ~ Kim Duess”

America's Not So Elite Sleepless

Commented May 23, 2011 at 16:12:44 in Healthy Living

“I have a preventive health MD and one of the first things he looked at was how many hours sleep I normally have per night and how deep my sleep was. This is so very important to health. He also recommends sublingual melatonin before going to sleep to everyone over the age of 30, as our melatonin production starts to decline after the age of 30. I wrote a blog post on melatonin and will post the URL at the end of my comment. I personally get a minimum of 8 hours per night and am in no way have a case of Sleep Machismo - I love my sleep! ~ Kim Duess

“Glad to hear you are getting enough sleep and are thus in company of a shrinking minority in the American workforce. Sublingual melatonin is an interesting strategy and may be the feature of a column of mine in the future. Thank you so much and thank you for sharing your own column.”

“Great advice and thank you for posting. Our children are unhealthy and overweight which is going to lead to many problems in 10 - 20 years. It is so important for parents to encourage children to do sports at a very young age. I am grateful that my parents put me on skis as soon as I could walk! To this day, skiing is a huge part of my life and was through my teen years. It kept me fit and I was never 'hanging out' at the mall, instead I was active and having fun with friends in the mountains. Plus we did this as a family which is another healthy benefit. Help your children find something they love and it will stick with them their whole lives! There are so many options ranging from hiking, camping, biking, paddling, skateboarding, inline skating - whatever makes their hearts happy! ~ Kim Duess”

“Not only do I add Turmeric to almost all my food dishes, I supplement with Curcumin everyday. When I had my knee surgery, I didn't take any anti-inflammatories for pain. I just took more Curcumin and it did the job! It's a pretty amazing spice! ~ Kim Duess”

“There are so many health benefits to talking fish oil! My preventive health doctor put me on the 'fish oil program' 2 years ago and now my omega 3 ratios are perfect! My body is now in a very anti-inflammatory state. I take a fish oil which uses a functional ratio of 6.5:1 (as opposed to 3:1) and uses low temperature carbon dioxide for extraction, not high, frying temperature molecular distillation. I can also cut my fish dosage in half which means no omega 3 overdosing which, as stated in the article, may suppress the immune system. I do a lot of CrossFit and the fish oil supplementation really helps with post-workout muscle soreness too! ~ Kim Duess”

Acupuncture: A Drug-Free Option for Chronic Pain

“I use acupuncture as a preventive health tool and also use it when I am injured. When I tore my hamstring, a few sessions of acupuncture from my TCMD helped me recover quickly. I also have many friends who successfully used acupuncture to help with infertility issues. So many health benefits! ~ Kim Duess”

“I'm still sticking to my fish oil supplements which use low temperature CO2 (supercritical extraction) to extract toxins/heavy metals. I love seafood but these days eat it infrequently. My anti-aging doctor tested my omega 3s and they are perfect levels, so the supplementation (above most recommendations) is doing the job. Not as fun as eating a delicious salmon though...kim duess”

“It is fantastic to see articles like this being written! Implementing meditation in schools will help children in so many ways and will help throughout their whole lives, keeping them healthier in mind and body. As Jeanne mentioned, in this world of busy technology, kids are becoming disconnected. Meditation will teach them mindfulness and help them become reconnected with themselves and those around them. ~ Kim Duess”
