“As the Birther notion goes: Jefferson could not have been a citizen because - as the Birthers say - Thomas Jefferson NEVER applied for US Citizenship

... as per the Birther's so-called logic ... Jefferson's mommy was NOT a US Citizen. Jefferson's mommy was a loyal British subject (citizen) - so - according to the Birther's Jefferson was NOT a legitimate President.

Do ya think Jefferson forgot to read the US Constitution.

Or is it possible the Birthers are WRONG and people born on US soil are US Citizens.”

“I think the Birther's really meant to object that he's not white. But that would be racist so they use the birth certificate argument.”

JoandeV replied on Dec 01, 2009 at 09:24:52

“Actually, the Birthers know that he Constitution grandfathers in anyone who was in the US before it became a sovereign nation. What they refuse to acknowledge is that the Constitution never defines "natural born citizen", and so must be interpreted by courts. The courts have found that anyone born on US soil is a natural born US citizen, even if both that person's parents are illegal immigrants. The only exception would be someone born to parents who had diplomatic status.

To get around that inconvenient truth, they fabricated a story that President Obama wasn't actually born in the US. They have no proof, and a rational examination of the circumstances argues against this having happened, but they'll cling to any hope they can find...or manufacture.”

President Thomas Jefferson's mother was NOT a US Citizen ... she was born in LONDON, ENGLAND.

I suppose President Jefferson was not a Natural Born Citizen and thus not eligible to be President.

Is it possible Thomas Jefferson never read the US Constitution before he became our country's 3rd President.”

Therefore the ONLY US Citizens are Native American Indians. Meaning ... we have NEVER had a legitimate US President.”
