Obama, Progressives and Afghanistan
Commented Dec 03, 2009 at 21:17:22 in Politics
“Progressives may not completely understand all the reasons why we need progressive taxation, but they know enough to see economic problems can’t be made right by military force. One thing for certain the world is small and the world wide syndicates of drug cartels and Godfathers of Arms dealers are many, all playing games and grabbing stakes in the new America, Laundered money eventually rules legitimate business through investments and their lawyers who like predators buy and sell even the respect of religious leaders who justify these perks with “I don’t knows” and “the greater good”. Small businesses have long seen the realities that control many businesses here and apparently everywhere. Madoff was a big story, but there are a lot of potential big stories that will never be told, but we’ll keep looking the other way with the rich getting richer and the wealth gap growing larger until history repeats itself once again.”
America Without a Middle Class
Commented Dec 02, 2009 at 22:50:57 in Business
“Almost everyone drank the Kool Aid from a philosophy of low taxes, borrowing and excessive hype to keep things going, even if it resulted in Class Division. The illusion of success from borrowing replaced incomes with loans for many middle class Americans used this money for the necessities like a home, car, college or medical care. The goal should be to provide competitive advantage to the middle class through a tax rate that redistributes and encourages small business. We need to regulate and demand reform from huge financial instititutions and encourage democracy while discouraging concentrated wealth through profits made through mergers that result in the loss of American jobs and productivity. America needs to battle the fear mongering of those convinced by the barage of greedmongers from the media right. Most of all we need leaders who will place their constituents first and commit to responsible public policy that integrates with the free market for the good of the hard working majority which is its middle class. Maintaining the wealthy, sustaining the poor, fighing Global warming is hardly justification for enslaving the middle class.”

“While I basically agree with you, how are you going to get the lobbyists out of the halls of the Capitol building? They stuff millions upon millions into the pockets of our lawmakers and expect votes in return to benefit their corporations or banks. And they get them!
Until we have SWEEPING CAMPAIGN FINANCE REFORM, we will not see ANY legislation that helps the American worker over the big corporations.
If the American people will wake up and get off the couch!! This IMHO is what we should take up our pitchforks for!! Stop the bribery and corruption in Congress!!!”

“That sounds like trickle down economics. The prinicpal that people will voluntarily train and employee people to avoid the reality that Capitalism unrestrained without redistribution ends up with an ever increasing gap between the rich and poor. Unfortunately its the philosophy that allows the and promotes sustaining not rewarding the quality of life aspirations promised through the trickle down New Deal.”
Journalism 2009: Desperate Metaphors, Desperate Revenue Models, And The Desperate Need For Better Journalism

“On of the very reasons for Free Press is to prevent a media mogul bent on controlling and manipulating the news from gaining the power to destroy or demise the ability of all other opinions from being heard. It is oh so apparent that technology that allows people to respond also can be monitored, hacked and stolen as is proven around the world everyday. There are numerous solutions to real infringement on copyrights etc, but they must begin with a real sense of just who the culprits are and what motivations drive them to steal. There is little doubt that Capitalism has provided a motivation to support certain opinions for the single goal of maintaining the status quo and eliminating or manipulating majority democratic opinion that threatens to take from the haves to give to the have nots be it power or money. There is "Desparation" and it is the fear of losing control over who gets to tell the truth and what truths are worth telling.”
Afghanistan: Obama Drops The Other Shoe

“This is basically clear evidence that we are losing the campaign in Afghanistan. The US does not want to give up its strategic position in the area. Unfortunately 35000 may not be enough troops, but the irony is that support for the war will be a much easier sell than Health Reform. President Obama seems to be trying to please his core liberal democrats, but is failing to grasp the real policy changes that many Americans believed were possible and forth coming in his campaign of HOPE.”
Sharing the Privilege of Abundance

“Many people lead bad lives that would gladly lead good ones, but know not how to make the change. They frequently resolved and endeavored it; but in vain, because their endeavors have not been properly conducted. To exhort people to be good, to be just, to be temperate, without shewing them how they shall become so, seems like the ineffectual charity mentioned by the Apostle, which consisted in saying to the hungry, the cold, and the naked, be ye fed, be ye warmed, be ye clothed, without shewing them how they should get food, fire, or clothing. --Benjamin Franklin-
It is quite evident that many chariities don't do a good job and are more benefiicial to their administrators than anyone else. The Peace Corp was a good example that tryed to implement giving in a responsible manner, but unfortunately no one has figured out a way to keep the greed mongers and war mongers from finding a way to grasp the bank accounts of the common man by promising to good in the name or God or Man.”

NBA Sons Populate College Hoops
Commented Nov 24, 2009 at 19:23:24 in Sports
“There are certainly many reasons sons of NBA players are prevalent in College Hoops. For one thing knowledge is power and this transcends into better basketball players. Certainly I could name a lot of contradictions to your surveys-- For instance Joe Bryant--Coby Bryant, Michael Dunleavy Sr--Mike Dunleavy Jr., Scott May, Scott May Jr. Even if players aren't as good--College Hoops is certainly a good life with lots of perks. I'm not sure if college basketball should be compared to that good ol boy system that discriminates and rules the world, but wouldn't this be a contradiction to suggest that maybe such a system could exist in many areas and arenas of life. Oh but this is Capitalism at work and the free enterprise doesn't make mistakes!!??”

“From the liittle I know about this Health Care bill is that it does little to control money paid to insurance companies, but instead insures them of higher profits by allowing the government to make sure hospitals and doctors have to provide less free or non funded procedures. There is but one reality and that is collusion among the elite to provide for their own burgeoning excess first and insure them from that lowly form of minority health care sandbaggers. Its all about thwarting the will of majority with smoke and mirrors insured, now propped up by a throng of celebrity looking down through the glass ceiling. Healthcare and Obama--Hollywood Style--Even the Pope can give a thumbs up to this one!”
Obama, China, and Wishful Thinking About American Jobs
Commented Nov 24, 2009 at 02:00:55 in Politics
“The government has maintained a policy of securing most everything based upon the average American's future earnings. In real dollars these earning have continued to go down while the government has secured almost everything with new laws to assure its survival and regrettably promote a number of new failures come tax time. The income gap between rich and poor is continuing to increase, while Obama and Geithner seem oblivious to these externalities created with banking bailouts for to big to fail companies and banks who in turn used the funds to make deals to reduce debts from their books. Oh and don't forget many businesses and distressed people won't be borrowing to pay Uncle Sam come springtime, so even more deals will be forth coming.”
Pyrrhic Victoria: Why Men Are Becoming More Like Women
Commented Nov 18, 2009 at 00:45:42 in Living
“Certainly the world has changed and women can now be perceived as rightful heirs to the thrones of power. One might also wonder if this is a mass charade designing itself as the HOPE for the entire world. It is only to evident that the forces of the wills of men and women around the globe have found the true means of thwarting the power and grasping the control of world's foremost superpower. Oh but women may live to regret, especially those who have born sons to a new form of control that renders their defenders useless.”

“Certainly the movie about Michael Jackson is being viewed in a positive light by most critics and viewers (accept of course for New York) because of the genuiness of his efforts, talents and determination in preparing for the not to be London concerts. “It is certainly evident that some covert operative in the CIA was involved. Only the government bureaucracy could have arranged such a coverup. No release of any documents will ever provide the truth which the American people deserve. The truth and responsibility is in God's hands.”
FredBrighton replied on Oct 31, 2009 at 07:57:26
“"responsibility is in God's hands." You mean you think God killed Kennedy? I mean that is a huge cop-out! In theory every single conspiracy in history is God's responsibility, as is the Universe and life and light.... But your first sentence presents a major premise with no evidence to back it up. Were it "certainly evident" there would be no discussion today. "Only the government bureaucracy..." the single most inefficient way to get anything done: a committee. And you think that method kept a valuable secret all these years. No conspirator in America would pass up a million dollar book deal with Oprah if they had any evidence! Hell, they would make evidence up! Which they have, many times and it all falls apart. I guess you people just have never known a real psychotic. Oswald was psychotic. That's all it took. One psychotic, one rifle and a handful of bullets. Oh, and a President who thought he could deflect bullets with a smile, thus eliminating being careful.”

The Tweet Life: Please Follow Me Now, Or My Twitter Posse Just Might Kick Your Blogger Ass
Commented Oct 23, 2009 at 11:37:25 in Media
“I agree that tweeting has its advantages over blogging. For one thing these people have signed up to hear you say something and with one important restriction--don't say to much or to often. Blogging seems more about getting my ever important opinion out there to be read even if no one ever really responds. Unfortunately many Bloggers and Posters find that the more messages posted the better. This is great if I really like what they are saying, but more often than not it becomes a weapon to demonize the ability of others to actually be heard. There is this new euphoria of the perfectly run message board which tweeters have subscribed to because they can always choose to quitely click "unfollow".”

Can't tell you how many times I open a 'So & So is now following you on Twitter' email, to find some young woman (oddly enough, not too many young guys do this) staring at me wearing nothing but a exotic smile and doing all sorts of things with her hands. No, no I'm no prude, I just happen to prefer a professional where porn's concerned, and I'd kind of like it to be something my spouse might find interesting. You know what I mean? US Senate Passes Byrd-Shepard Hate Crimes Act, Awaits Presidential Signature
Commented Oct 23, 2009 at 11:22:26 in Politics
“Congratulations to those who feel this law was a necessity however, most likely this type of legislation will provide protection for some and a form of persecution for others primarily in the workplace. In particular the law cannot provide any real protection from people intelligent enough to act with devious intent and unfortunately may provide a framework for many people to make claims that are the result of ulterior motives.”

alex61 replied on Oct 23, 2009 at 13:34:51
“True. There are some people who see every problem they encounter in life as a function of some sort of bigotry. They are eternal victims and want society to "do something" to alleviate their perpetual victimization. There is no perfect solution to any thing. In general, anti-hate crime laws will probably do more good than harm. Those who attempt to game the system need to be found out and properly penalized.”

“It is quite evident that Roman Polanski should be made accountable for his actions. It is quite another story to make this a story about women, abuse and equality. Everything must be put into context and judged by the single event when and where it took place. Upholding the law and informing the world is the best way to promote the kind of environment that will help make a the world a better and more peaceful place for young women throughout the world, If the story is about preventing abuse of women throughout the world then a more thorough journalistic investigation and description of the issue should be addressed that is actually aimed at preventing and punishing these type of perpetrators....most of which are not celebrities.”
The Beginning of the End of Nuclear Weapons
Commented Sep 28, 2009 at 01:00:54 in World
“It's difficult to suggest the end of something where only knowledge presumes its existence. The current stockpiles of weapons in submarines and silos in fact will become irrelevant after say twenty -thirty years, unless of course they are used. The likelihood of highly enriched uranium being passed from some corporation or disgruntled manipulating government official to someone in the middle east or asia is increasing. The US or Russia is totally capable of using military weapons and is highly unlikely to dismantle them all for real as they still pose the greatest deterent to rogue nations that could possibly decide to use them. We are for instance very concerned about IRAN just as we were concerned about IRAQ for possibly possessing the ability to complete just one nuclear weapon. How is it that we will magically end or trust others to get rid of all this knowledge by signing a piece of paper.”

Has Obama's Handling of the Bank Bailout Undermined Health Care Reform?
Commented Sep 01, 2009 at 00:12:47 in Politics
“Bank Reform did indeed have an ill effect on Health Care Reform. If perception is everything then the battle is as good as lost. Unfortunately the Banking bailout was implemented by the previous administration to save the system and the wealth of all those who stand to lose the most .
The idea that all is done for the greatest good does not conflict with American Democratic ideas, but ideas about the Republic, globalization and the need to promote free market policies that keep the rich richer and the middle class further in debt. There is a breaking point under this formula where Nationalistic ideas conflict with economic ideas and Global goals. These same self serving oligarchies and elite are certainly not ready to throw in the towel over the American Dream, but instead have willingly become servants to the greater good of providing the rest of the world this right to achieve with free market supply side objectives, keeping the stock market appealing while implying that Americans should not give up, but accept these new goals. Fear of more debt with questionable changes in Health Reform as well as the ability to imply that Americans are not loyal to the constitution when they oppose free market policies undermine the rights of the sovereignty of the United States and its ability to be a continued leader in promoting important concepts concerning human rights, individual rights and environmental initiatives.”
