“This liveblog is more significant than I think anyone realises right now. The way we're getting our information about this event--from the actual people on the ground as it happens--is nearly unprecedented in the history of mankind. Could this be a sign that a fundamental paradigm shift in the unfolding of world history is under way?

For anyone interested in one person's thoughts about this situation and it's broader significance for the future of humanity as a whole, you are welcome to read the essay I posted about it on my online journal.

http://kemstone.com/Journal/

I welcome your comments, but please don't attack me with "why should anyone care what YOU have to say?" kinds of criticism. I know I'm not an expert--I just have some big ideas that I'd like to spread as widely as possible throughout the human collective consciousness.”

“Can somebody other than Bob Cesca point out the blatant inconsistency in the arguments used by torture defenders such as this Cliff guy from the first clip?

On the one hand, these "harsh interrogation methods" are harmless! They're just pushing your head into a soft wall or putting you in a room with a caterpillar!

On the other hand, these techniques are so effective that they're absolutely crucial to the safety of the American people!

What universe are these people living in? Apparently these terrorists are so soft that they'll tell us everything they know if they come within close proximity to a caterpillar!”

AnnfromCA replied on Apr 23, 2009 at 03:16:07

“It's mental torture. I have said for years and years, mental torture is as bad as physical. The only type of abuse recognized by most idiots is physical.

Mental is far worse.

So this discussion doesn't surprise me in the least. This is the result of a very barbaric culture which only recognizes physical abuse as legitimate.

You reaped what you sowed.”

“He appeals to people who don't want to listen to other points of view. When somebody who doesn't agree with them is making a point that might shake one of their own pre-existing beliefs, it is a great mental relief to here them simply cut off and declared wrong without any rational counter-argument, and reinforces their own confidence that whatever they already believe is true simply because they believe it.”

Ayers On GMA: GOP Used

Ayers On GMA: GOP Used "Dishonest Narrative ... To Demonize Me"

Commented Nov 14, 2008 at 12:37:01 in Politics

“I think Ayres should have done an interview before the election. I understand why he didn't want to throw himself into the spotlight like that when the heat was already so intense, but he's an intelligent, reasonable, calm enough person to have handled it as tactfully as he did in this interview and diffuse a lot of the nonsense that was being spouted by right-wingers. Obviously the outcome of the election went well anyway, but more people would have seen this and perhaps some of the more open-minded republicans would have realized just how much of a non-issue it was, and we'd be a little less divided now than we currently are.”

Tom Payned replied on Nov 14, 2008 at 13:05:33

“I actually think that Palin and McShame's constant referencing of Ayers and Paling around with terrorists did more harm than good for their campaign. I know many independents who loved the 2000 McCain and even could have lived with Palin as VP. However, with the constant drumming of Ayers with McShame continuously saying in interviews that "nobody cares about a washed up guy from the 60's but Obama needs to come clean about his relationship" made McShame look unbalanced and that his campaign had nothing positive to run on.

Oh yeah, Joe the Plumber really turned them off after the second day of hearing about him.

Terrorists and the Plumber drove independents and moderates to Obama.

Thanks Ayers,”

StillIRise replied on Nov 14, 2008 at 12:53:57

“I think most open-minded people, Republicans and Democrats, dismissed the story or non-story of Ayers long before they cast their vote, most of them for Obama. Those who chose to believe the lies would not have been dissuaded by an Ayers interview or anything else, which is evidenced by some of the close-minded posters on this blogsite alone.

Our country is divided because some choose to keep it divided. This is what has worked so well, or not so well (depending upon how you look at it), for the leadership in the Republican Party, for their pundits or talking heads, and even for their base who seem to get some perverted benefit from a divided nation as well. I think it makes them feel better about themselves to think that they're the REAL Americans, the REAL patriots or the REAL Christians. It gives them justification for their bigotry and voluntary ignorance.

What they don't understand, and perhaps never will understand, is that the majority of Americans are not only not like them, but don't want to be like them. The majority of Americans want a united nation, which is why the majority of Americans elected President-Elect Obama to be the leader of our country and of the free world.”

“Of course McCain has to say things like he's "proud" of his campaign and that he "inspired" people, but I sincerely hope that somewhere in the back of his mind, he regrets what he did. The only things he inspired were fear and hate. He sold his soul to the religious right, picked a dangerously unqualified woman to be a heartbeat away from the presidency, and sparked bitter divisions in this country that will make it much more difficult for us to come together and solve the difficult problems--problems way more important than partisan bickering--over the next few years.

I know everyone wants to be magnanimous and praise him for his nice concession speech, but I don't think he deserves to be proud. He ought to be ashamed of his campaign, and anyone who runs a similar campaign in the future ought to be ashamed of themselves as well.”

ggm1957 replied on Nov 12, 2008 at 05:11:27

“He certainly should be ashamed of the campaign he ran. Sometimes I just got the feeling he wanted the best man to win - and was actually working to ensure that Obama would win! McCain certainly showed his "love of country" with his vp choice.

“Something that really caught my eye during McCain's concession speech was the expression on Palin's face--something I've never seen from her before. It was more than just sadness that her ticket had lost. She was shocked. I think she really truly believed that in spite of all of the polls, God was going to make her Vice President, and then probably President. What I saw on stage was a woman whose faith in God had suddenly been shaken.

This is a woman I can't stand, but my heart went out to her for an instant. Hearing all this makes it even clearer. She knew that she HAD to win this time because the depth of her inadequacy was bound to come out if she lost. Obviously it could be all in my imagination, but I think she was feeling like God had betrayed her. I no longer hate her, I pity her.”

aussiechick replied on Nov 06, 2008 at 06:55:57

Kerkyra replied on Nov 06, 2008 at 06:50:33

“I was shocked by the level of honesty beneath the first few weekend update jokes. McCain has been wavering between "Reverse Maverick" and "Double Maverick" this whole election. If the McCain we saw here, the "Sad Grandpa" had been the McCain running for president, the election would be a lot closer because for the first time in months I could watch him without that horribly uncomfortable feeling I get whenever I see him on the campaign trail.

I've disagreed with his positions from the start, but I never viewed him unfavorably until his campaign turned into the most nasty, rotten, vitriolic smear-fest in modern history. This showed that buried beneath all the desperation, lying, and fear-mongering, there really is a decent guy. It just goes to show how drastically blind ambition can twist an otherwise good person.”

“To stifle all these cries of "voter fraud" we should nationally mandate the Iraqi method. No I.D. required, but once you vote you dip your finger in ink. If you show up to the polls with ink on your finger, you get turned away. All you have to do is keep your hands away from giant vats of ink on election day, and you can vote.

As for the five or six Americans who might ACTUALLY try to vote more than once (seriously, who would actually try that?) that would stop them for sure, and Republicans would no longer be able to cry about all these poor people trying to steal the election from them.”

“I second that. The single best result of her nomination as VP, which nobody could have really foreseen, was to finally drive a wedge between the two main wings of the Republican party that through their shaky alliance have maintained a stranglehold on this country for too long. The religious-right and the neoconservatives will stand behind Palin, while the REAL conservatives, those who favor less government and a more level-headed approach to foreign policy, will get behind a different candidate. I really hope Palin is the nominee in 2012. Not only will it mean an easy re-election for Obama, but on a much more shallow level, the news is so much more fun with her in it (though if she actually got any real power it would very quickly go from fun to scary)!”

Christian right intensifies attacks on Obama

“The christian right is absurd. Here is what they seem to believe:

1- Obama is not a Christian because he believes people can be saved through OTHER faiths. Can somebody please ask John McCain if he believes that all non-Christians will burn in eternal Hell-fire? Apparently you're not a christian unless you believe 30% of Americans are eternally damned.

2- The democrats not only want to legalize gay marriage, they want to TAKE AWAY the right of heterosexuals to get married. If the liberals have their way, heterosexuals will no longer be legally allowed to live together or raise children.

3- The courts will FORCE the Boy Scouts of America to ONLY allow gay scoutmasters, and as we all know, all gays are pedophiles. A vote for Obama is a vote for child-molestation!

4- Because of Obama's "reluctance to send troops overseas" we will be attacked by bloodthirsty Islamic terrorists. If we elect a "muslim" president, God won't protect us anymore like he did on 9/11 when only the anti-american parts of this nation were targeted.

5- Democrats will not only uphold Roe v. Wade, but they will FORCE women to have abortions even if the pregnancy was desired. A vote for Obama is a vote to kill babies!

The most absurd thing is the underlying assumption that although God is all-powerful, he seems to desperately need help in promoting His Divine Agenda. Could the candidate that God opposes actually WIN?”
