The Government Is Trying To Control My Breasts
Commented Nov 25, 2009 at 11:03:33 in Living
“As if trying to control our Uterus wasn't enough. Now they will push back the preventative mammograms so that the only solution left is to hack the breasts off. Couple that with the new "guidelines on Pap Smears and they carve out the Uterus and end the argument of who has the final say on that organ too. Then they'll give us the un-natural kind of hormone replacement - and 3 cancer strikes and we let you die.
I totally agree with your questions - I want to know WHO gathered the information, WHO sponsored this study, why there were no Oncologists or Gynecologists included in the panel.
I don't trust them. Even if I have to pay out of pocket I will still get yearly screenings.”

“A point of clarification - mammograms are not preventative - they are diagnostic. This is a common mistake. Just another point - the members of this committee were appointed under the Bush administration. Guidelines are constantly being revised. If it were twenty years ago you would have had your entire chest wall removed with a mastectomy and 20 or so lymph nodes which would have led to lymphedema. Please don't be so suspicious that continued research and review of the data leads to modifications - this is a good thing. What we need to do is keep pushing for more research dollars focused on better diagnositic tools. Finally, I heard Dr. Susan Love on Dr. Oz - one of the foremost breast cancer doctors/researchers in the country - state that she is supportive of these new guidelines.”

“This means that I have to pay for your yearly screenings even if there is no evidence that this will extend your life. If you are high risk, get your screenings. If you are paranoid, self-insure.”

“I support a similar group called "Fell your Boobies" Foundation!
When this came out and was followed a few days later with less Pap Smears I was very upset. My husband said "Do what you think you should do. It's your body." Probably the best thing he's ever said to me.
I honestly believe that the Neocons & Insurance companies were behind the push on the new "guidelines" - all the better to defeat Health Care Reform. Beat reformers to the punch - start rationing preventative care before it passes. In the mean time the Insurance companies will use it as a reason not to cover these tests for many women who cannot afford them otherwise and there will be a vary sad loss of lives - womens lives. Which in the eyes of these people are somehow worth less then the cost of these tests.
My father went form no cancer to stage IV cancer in under a year, and it was found by accident as he wasn't supposed to be screened for another year. Now on Chemo he has 40% chance of making it to this time next year. If he was a woman under these guidelines he'd be dead. Plain & Simple.
What they are doing is is no less then mass murder or genocide.”

Should Insurance Companies Pay For Preventive Care?

“I was denied coverage for a prescription on a previous employers plan when they changed insurance companies. They said because I am not 60 they won't cover it. I asked how they could deny me my medication for a degenerative joint disease (RA). They said we aren't denying you the RX - you can still go get it - FOR AN EXTRA CAR PAYMENT!
So I went online and ordered the generic version (not even available in the US) from Canada for about the same cost as my copay was for the 3 month RX on the previous plan. And you know what - they worked just as well! Even thought it was hard to come up with the extra $600 a year as Canadian drugs (so dangerous) are an ineligible expense for Medical Flex Spending plan.”

“Why would you think our prescription medications are inferior? Same medication, as the proposed drug has be approved by Health Canada for its safety before it is available to the public, it's just different pricing mechanism for us Canadians, as our government negotiates with the drug companies on what the drug companies are allowed to charge for a certain prescription.”

“1st of all -- all health Insurance companies should be NOT FOR PROFIT!
And YES! Its already been proven that preventative care costs less and allow thing to be found earlier with less costly treatments.
I will still go annually for my pap smear and mammography.
The insurance companies are behind these new "guideline" and it really has made me VERY angry. They will do ANYTHING to not pay for test and/or treatment - it is WAY cheaper to catch it late - not treat and LET YOU DIE.”

This is just promotion from the Insurance company through Doctors that are in their pockets. It's cheaper to detect late, not treat and let us die by the thousands!
Get it done - just like your annual pap smear, or getting your moles checked in your annual physical. The earlier ANY cancer is caught the better the chances are.
Self breast exams are "not beneficial or proven to find cancer early"??????????? No one knows my breast better then I do, not my husband, not my gynecologist.

What Do Muslim Women Want?

“A woman can think for herself and walk around in the world WITHOUT being covered head to foot - AND still not show her breasts and have modesty. Believe or not there are MANY western women who don't display their breasts or have had plastic surgery - I am one.
I am an advocate of:
-education for ALL women in whatever area of study interests them - let's start with READING
- health care - including gynecology & obstetrics (not obscene - it's health care- too many women are dying) & with out devastating irreversible FGM
- being able to walk freely and safely in their country of origin WITHOUT being covered OR having to have permission from a male family member/male escort
- the freedom to choose & practice a profession so they are NOT financially dependent
I don't equate these things with changing culture. IT IS SIMPLY EQUALITY OF ALL HUMANS REGARDLESS OF GENDER. This planet will never progress if we (all humans not just western) allow this. If their current circumstances continue they will never be able to as you say "There is ilness, hunger, tyrany all over the world, women can change that and they should". How can they do any of these things without education, health care, and freedom of choice? All that begins with throwing off the veil and feeling the sun shine on their faces. None of this has to do with plastic surgery or showing breasts. If that is what you think”

There are so many women with out even a 1st grade education - how can you ask them what they want - they are millions that have NEVER been allowed to think for themselves. While some may choose to wear the conservative religious garments (burka, head scarf or abaya) how many are shrouded that want to walk freely?? I believe if many average women actually spoke up they would end up as more honor killings.
Why else would they be importing fake hymen kits in Egypt?? These non-virgin females must have been with a man - a sickening double standard. I say go for it girls - especially if the men are SO stupid they can't tell the difference!”

hp blogger Michael Giltz replied on Sep 23, 2009 at 14:45:27
“The festival was notably front-loaded with major films often playing opposite each other with only one screening so only one chance to see. Also, with The Road, I knew it would be out in theaters shortly. I have the freedom to pick and choose what I want to see and if I know a film is going to be in theaters, I might prefer to see something that doesn't have a distributor yet or something less well-known. There are literally hundreds of films playing at Toronto and it's simply impossible to see them all or even all the "big" movies. Further, The Road already played at Venice so it wasn't going to make a stir at Toronto because it wasn't "their" movie, ie. a movie that premiered there. I decided to see Dorian Gray at 11:45 am at the same theater. The Road played in that theater immediately following, but if I wanted to be sure of a seat I would have either had to skip the earlier screening or leave in the middle of Dorian Gray in order to get into line. I chose instead to see two movies completely and The Trotsky, an interesting looking Canadian film. And to cap it off, the reviews in Venice for the film were mixed (with the NYTimes being especially brutal) so I didn't feel the pressure to see it right away the way I did for Venice top prize winner Lebanon.”

“Why haven't they learned from other counties that not covering Abortion & Birth Control has far reaching consequences?
Iran banned all forms of birth control after their "Revolution". After 25 years their population has QUADRUPLED, with the majority of people under the age of 25. They have since lifted the ban - but too late. They have massive unemployment of the young, can't feed all their citizens, prostitution has become rampant as has human trafficking. The Iranians have since embraced a form of religiously sanctioned temporary marriage called ‘sighe’ or ‘mot'e’ and which can last a few hours or decades, supposedly as a sexual outlet for young people. Except the men who are most commonly involved already have a wife, or wives (the law allows up to 4 wives).”

This is cultural ignorance and is so ingrained the women force it on young girls. “Living in the very hot southwest during summer nothing can be "too drafty" when it is 115 degrees. My husband and I both keep the lawn mowed. If you know what I mean. Not GONE, but short and tame. All kinds of hedge trimmers made for ladies that work well and cause no injury in the $15 to $25 range. It's actually helps keep my entire core body temp cooler in summer, and it is a hell of a lot cleaner. I only go completely bare for special occasions - cause it does itch a lot coming back. And it has nothing to so with any "pre-pubescent" fetish - this is all for adult play time. It is soft and smooth, and you can feel SO much more. ( I should not need to explain this) Plus we both think the natural pink(not hot pink dye) is beautiful. Why NOT show it off once in a while?
Why is it that there are still women in this country who feel shame at showing themselves in all their natural pink glory? Why hide it under a 1970's style gi-normous bush? We should be celebrating our genitals - alone or with our partner/spouse, not hiding in shame because of some way out dated puritanical views of the feminine genitalia.
Say it LOUD: I'm PINK and I'm PROUD!”
