Don't Worry, Be Happy: How Yoga Helps Combat Depression

Don't Worry, Be Happy: How Yoga Helps Combat Depression

Commented Apr 12, 2011 at 20:14:05 in Healthy Living

“I started yoga 8 years ago and love it! To start with, I didn't like shivasana (relaxation at the end of every yoga class) as my mind was so busy. 8 years later, it is my favourite part of the class and I also now love to meditate. Both yoga and meditation bring a calming energy into my life. ~ Kim Duess”

“Thank you for creating awareness about MSG and its dangers. I wrote a blog post a while back which outlines some names which MSG may be hidden under: http://www.you-be-healthy.com/2010/02/the-dangerous-health-effects-of-msg/ ~ Kim Duess”

hp blogger Beverley Golden on Apr 13, 2011 at 15:13:26

“Thanks Kim. I believe awareness is the first step to making changes and find most people don't know how prevalent MSG is and how many names it goes by. I appreciate your feedback and your post.”

'Action For Happiness' Leads Well-Being Movement In Britain

Commented Apr 12, 2011 at 13:13:24 in Healthy Living

“I just started reading "Happier" by Tal Ben-Shahar - a fantastic book so far! It helps one look inwards and helps us redefine what happiness really is - ie. not money, material worth etc which is what many think happiness is. The author teaches a class in positive psychology at Harvard so the book's tips to increase your happiness, such as setting goals and expressing gratitude, stand on solid ground are very doable. ~ Kim Duess”

In Pain? Try Meditation

Commented Apr 12, 2011 at 12:53:47 in Healthy Living

“I implemented meditation as a daily practice before and after my knee surgery (ACL) and it sure worked for me! Not only was a pain-free but my healing was super fast. I was out kite surfing 7 weeks post-surgery - with my surgeon's blessing! I have slipped in my daily practice but just signed up for the free 21-Day Meditation Challenge put on by the Chopra Center: http://www.you-be-healthy.com/2011/04/deepak-chopras-21-day-meditation-challenge-free/ - I hope to have meditation become a daily practice again. ~ Kim Duess”

Wait, What's So Great About Quinoa Anyway?

Commented Apr 12, 2011 at 12:40:13 in Home

“I recently cut out breads/pastas from my diet and was looking for new meal choices. I stumbled across quinoa and it is now a daily staple for me. I love that quinoa is a complete protein meaning it contains all 9 essential amino acids which are required by the body as building blocks for muscles. I'm always looking for new ways to prepare quinoa - thanks! ~ Kim Duess”

In Buddhism You Are What (And How) You Eat

Commented Apr 9, 2011 at 23:40:21 in Religion

“The emphasis on mindful eating is something which has been lost in our fast paced North American society. It is rare for families to eat together at the dinner table these days and there is, therefore, a disconnect in the family unit (just one reason!). On another note, there have been studies done which show digestion is hampered when eating while stressed, watching TV etc. It is worth taking the time to breathe and be present while eating a meal. ~ Kim Duess”

Teach Your Parents Well and Begin a Life-Changing Conversation

Commented Apr 9, 2011 at 18:06:26 in Healthy Living

“This is so true! When we are young, we don't view our parents as 'real people' and can carry this into our adult lives, making our present moment conform to the past. Once we are conscious of this and are authentic with our parents, our family relationships grow and are much more rewarding! ~ Kim Duess”

“Great post! I agree there is a revolution/shift right now. I can see this in my yoga classes - 4 years ago a Yin Yoga class (meditative/stretching) would have been empty. Today I need to be 20 minutes early to get a spot! Being mindful and present helps reduce stress and brings more harmony to life. ~ Kim Duess”

The Secret to Making Positive Thinking Work

The Secret to Making Positive Thinking Work

Commented Apr 9, 2011 at 12:59:03 in Healthy Living

“Unrealistic positive thinking? Wow, I didn't think there was such a thing! I personally think that children should be taught about positive thinking and focusing on the positive areas of life, rather than fear and negative self talk. We would live in a much happier world if this was the case! ~ Kim Duess”

CWonAHHP on Apr 9, 2011 at 19:11:24

“Whooo Boy ... fine, you go ahead and teach children to ignore the possible consequences of their "Positive Thinking" ... then watch them fail because they were too busy looking at the golden ring to see the lamppost speeding at them.

Short-sighted, blind faith is NOT a formula for success.”
