“"'I'm less concerned about any individual than I am with a government as a whole that is having difficulty providing basic services to its people,' Obama said in his latest blunt assessment of the Karzai government, whose competence is an essential part of a U.S. war effort now in its ninth year."

Too bad Obama doesn't see that this country is having "difficulty providing basic services to its people." Wish he'd focus some attention to that instead of what the bankers, insurance companies and defense contractors want. Jobs, stop the foreclosures, food, and, oh, yes, HEALTH CARE.”

“Except that this isn't reform, not is it universal. It is forcing us to pay for private health insurance, with co-pays (as high as they want), high deductibles, denial of services. -- even if they can't deny for pre-existing conditions. This is a coup d'etat for the medical industrial complex who will make trillions and we will not get any better health care than we have now. And probably worse, since prices for everything will go up.”

Eris23Skidoo replied on Nov 09, 2009 at 16:26:39

“Prices should actually go down, public option or not. The big thing about prices in the bill is that it will end price-fixing. When a firm, any firm, sets the price it can then behave like a monopoly (whether or not they actually have monopoly power). Insurance companies have been guilty of collusion for decades and that is the primary reason insurance rates double every five or ten years. That collusion will now be illegal, as will be the price-fixing. The insurance companies will now have to face the free market just like every other business, so there will finally be some competition which will lower the prices.

Having said that, the public option should lower prices even more because it really is a no-brainer that people would prefer to pay for insurance that will actually be there for you when you need it. This will be incentive for the insurance companies to quit blaming the victim and actually be there for their customers. Right now, all they do is collect your money and then forget about you when you get sick. Quite a racket!”

“There are few supporters for "Obamacare" because we all know it's crap. He is ignoring the millions -- in fact majority of Americans -- who want a "public option" which really means single payer -- any kind of affordable health care. He is not representing his supporters, he is not representing the majority of Americans. He is representing corporate interests first and foremost. Of course we're disillusioned and even disgusted. Even John McCain could not have pulled off this coup d'etat of the Medical Industrial Complex to send trillions of dollars their way.”

Cloud30 replied on Nov 07, 2009 at 12:53:07

“The whole point of the bill was to make sure people were not discriminated against because of a pre-existing condition or current condition. The bill does just that. Obama never promised outright a public option. Are you willing to support nothing instead of something period? The problem with progressives is they don't know how to battle and fight another day..they want to win the war in one full swoop. Well guess what we've been fighting 40 years for health care and we made NO progress...if we had this Obamacare you're criticizing 40 years ago we'd probably be in a much better position today in comparison to the Nothing we have now”

We have a puppet for a President. Don't expect anything else.”

Jezreel replied on Oct 16, 2009 at 16:35:31

“What does Obama have to do with Frank's decision to allow those amendments to pass unchallenged?

I don't agree with everything our President says and does, but I am certainly aware enough to realize that Republicans and wing-nut Conservatives are not his only problems.

Many Progressives, Liberals and Dems seemed to have drank the Democrats' kool-aid about the Republican minority in Congress running roughshod over them on everything from Iraq war funding to FISA against their will despite the fact that they held majorities in the House and Senate.

Anyone observing the Obama Admin and Congress since January knows that the Democratic Congress defeated Sen. Durbin's cram-down legislation that would have helped homeowners, like, me who's mortgages are underwater. We also know that Mr. Obama's plan to introduce new Consumer Protection Legislation is being watered down in a Democratically controlled legislature.

And no one can deny that health care reform was changed to health care expansion with proposals that millions of Americans be forced to purchase insurance premiums from the same companies that are responsible for our health care debacle by a Democratically controlled legislature.

Mr. Obama is not incompetent. Nor is he schizophrenic. He's not voting against himself. He is, however, dealing with people like Barney Frank, Chris Dodd, Mary Landrieu, Claire McCaskill, Bayh, Reid and many other Democrats who are just as corporate-bought as Republicans.”

“I will continue to seek common ground in the weeks ahead.... I won't stand by while the special interests use the same old tactics to keep things exactly the way they are.

Ha ha ha ha ha ha. Yeah, Rahm Emanuel's got a few new tactics: the reason this crap won't even take place until 2013 is so Rahm can make sure insurance companies fully on board to fund Dem elections through 2012.

I am beyond disgusted.”

hollybork replied on Sep 10, 2009 at 15:08:10

“It may be that the President agrees to delay implementation of the public option until 2013 in order to argue forcefully for Obama tmust be re-elected. If he did have a kick in of public option in 2013, and a republican was elected in 2012, then the public option and healthcare reform could be stripped out. Others argue it is a debt issue - to avoid increasing the debt we need to defer funding healthcare reform while we are still in recession and in two foreign wars. Others observe that Congress does not want to raise taxes now when the economy is so precarious.

Although logical to delay for these reasons, the President's efforts will not help my family. We need a public option now because we cannot buy private insurance and our jobs are very precarious right now. I suspect there are 30 million people out there at least who feel that way; although they have insurance with their current employer they fear they may not have it for long because the economy is bad.”

BradMaurer replied on Sep 10, 2009 at 15:02:04

“kimk3 - You don't think there's any merit to the idea that a public option can't just materialize out of thin air once the President signs a healthcare bill? Obama has not given a detailed defense of the specific timeline he has offered, but that's no reason to assume that any delay is due to future campaign considerations. I do hope someone asks him this question.”

DCBarrister replied on Sep 10, 2009 at 14:55:07

“Absolutely!

This tandem of incompetence known as Rahm Emanuel and Nancy Pelosi are the same two that botched the last two years of the Bush Presidency.

We sent the Democrats to Washington after the 2006 midterm elections with a clear mandate to end the war in Iraq and hold the Bush White House accountable for their criminal behavior. What did Rahm, Pelosi, and Reid do? Cowered in fear and protected precious political capital for the 2008 election.

Any reason I had to trust President Obama ended when he chose Rahm Emanuel as Chief of Staff.”

“I'm sick of hearing Obama's speeches. I want to see some progressive action. Unemployment is only the tip of the job iceberg -- many more are under-employed and working sh***y low-paying jobs and Obama's big "rescue" (gift to bondholders, i.e., Goldman) of GM only ensured more work going to China. He's gotta do something about NAFTA. And Rahm loves NAFTA. So, more speeches, nothing done.”
