“I'm so happy that people are continuing to comment on this terrifying issue. I remember in the eighties when there was an onslaught of Korean merchants moving into Manhattan buying out the American delicatessans. They decided that black citizens were not worthy of respect and really treated us disrespectfully. After about two years of enduring this abuse, black people w/o any prodding from Rev. Jackson or Rev. Sharpton just stop patronizing Korean Delis. After a couple of months of this boycott the Korean merchants were desparate; they began standing outside of their shops begging black people to come in. Why could n't they just have treated us decently to begin with.”

Ugochukwu Uche on Oct 30, 2013 at 15:49:39

“I agree boycott does work, and this is what should be done with barneys. A more concerning issue though is the mindset of youth, when it comes to how they regard their self worth.

“New York City is an interesting place. During the late eighties a man who was born in Italy came to the U.S. and married an American Black Woman. They operated a restaurant jazz club on 8th Ave. near West 18th St. in the village of Chelsea in Manhattan. One night their apartment building caught on fire and they relocated to an hotel on 8th Ave. in mid-town west. As they entered the hotel they were refused registration because the clerk thought the man was entering with a prostitute and he was his wife's "john". He sued, but things were never the same. Somehow his business went belly-up. I never did find out what happened to that couple.”

“A lot of people like to trivialize incidents such as this by claiming "the race card" is being played while they sit back and seek comfort behind their white priviledge. Wish those who claim "race card" could experience what John Travolta's character experienced at the hands of Harry Belefonte in a "role reversal movie from the mid-nineties. (Can't recall the title but it sure was a life lesson and eye opener to me)”

“Who the hell are you to judge me? Did you serve or are you one of those "chicken hawks" who is happy to see us in wars but will let someone else do the fighting and dying for you. I serve HONORABLY TWICE!!! Finished as a captain. My son finished as a major. You've got some nerve!”

Hiwatt4x12 on Oct 26, 2013 at 11:04:04

“I'm not judging you at ALL. That was an assumption on everyone's part apperantly. I'm glad you're an honorable man and that your service was same. We need more like YOU in the world! But when someone unilaterally thanks someone ELSE for their service without knowing thing ONE about them or said service... My apologies because I DO thank you! I'm sorry for for forcing you to name calling as a tactic. Again...Thank You!”

“Someone asked me, "How do I dress now?" I own four fine topcoats. Three of which I had hand-made in Hong Kong through an Indian Continent Garment Company in Los Angeles County. The two double-breasted wool top coats are full length and lined cost me $1,100 each. The double-breasted fine leather full-length cost me $1,600. Answer your question.... LOL!!!!!!!”

“You have not been paying attention. A white former female store detective just commented that her experience over six years is that most people she apprehended were white. I was a store detective for Alexander's at east 58th St & Lexington (just south of Bloomingdales) from 1967 until '68 when I was almost drafted and went into the Air Force and I too, apprehended more whites than blacks. You could n't afford to waste your time watching people who were not stealing because we got bonuses for all the merchandise we retrieved. After I finished a combat tour in Vietnam I joined the PAPD NY/NJ where, for over six years before I left to go back into the Air Force to get my commission, I arrested more white people than black! GO FIGURE?!”

pjarizona on Oct 26, 2013 at 19:02:08

“I think its just a matter of lets play the race card. Your not the only person who has made the same comments. Its not only black people who get stopped and sometimes arrested its everyone. Its just that not everyone makes it front page news. Or going to take them to court.”
