What You Should Know About Women's Rights in Afghanistan
Commented Apr 13, 2009 at 16:29:31 in World
“Are you serious?! OK let's offer half of the Afghan population, asylum.
Please think before you type. So should we do the same thing with the countless other nations where these types of things happens?
The entire system needs to be changed for these women to have any chance. Better government, more educational programs and establishment of programs to strengthen their economy, is the only way that this society will be able to move forward. These people are disenfranchised and ignorant. Consequently, their society must evolve to see fundamental changes.”

Brazil Carnival: Send Us Your Photos
Commented Feb 20, 2009 at 15:46:35 in World
“Hello!!
There are Carnival celebrations going on in other countries besides Brazil. The Caribbean island of Trinidad has the second largest Carnival celebration in the world. New Orleans has Mardi Gras and there are celebrations in Venice and France. So why not ask for photos from those celebrations too?
Nope all you want is the same tired photo of a Samba Queen on a float. Let me dig up one from a few years back and send it to you right now.”

Obama Must Isolate Al-Qaeda By Negotiating With Taliban: Analyst
Commented Jan 17, 2009 at 16:43:54 in World
“Yeah let's get on that. Let's negotiate with Taliban who has no problem with throwing acid on girls, forbidding them from going to school. They also like to gun down innocent Afghans in the streets and don't really have quarms about kidnapping and killing fathers and sons and leaving the rest of the family to fend for themselves. America needs to stop negotiating with dictators period! We have too many dictators all over the world that we have helped prop up.”
hp blogger Virginia M. Moncrieff replied on Jan 17, 2009 at 22:50:14
“Helo Kloche - therein lies the problem. At what point do you say you will negotiate and with whom? It's like whendespots like Idi Amin and Megistu are given immunity to go and live in asylum as long as they can get them out of the country and restore some kind of rule of law and safety for the citizens. So I imagine it comes down to the greater good for the greater number. But I totally agree negotiating with the Taliban, on the face of it, does not inspire any sense of justice.
Thanks for reading.”

Gay and Feeling Hurt by Obama's Warren Choice

Gay and Feeling Hurt by Obama's Warren Choice
Commented Dec 19, 2008 at 15:09:32 in Politics
“I have to wonder if people would be b!ching as much if Obama had gone with Billy Graham (if he were well enough) as other presidents traditionally have done in the past. Billy Graham holds the exact same views on gay marriage as Warren. So why haven't people been b!tching for years about him?
I am personally tired of this fussing. I support gays and No on Prop 8. But this seems to be another manifest of the aggressive backlash against religion and specific individuals and groups that has been escalating since Californians voted Yes on Prop 8. Maybe the focus should be on specific gay issues and organizing so that gay rights can be advanced across America.
Why are gays not causing an uproar over America's opposition to the UN extending gay rights internationally and domestically ? That is a much more significant issue That is at the crux of what homosexuals have been fighting for. But no, the LGBT community and liberals are fussing about Rick Warren at the inauguration.
Again this is why No on Prop 8 failed. This assumption that everyone should automatically agree with your position. Instead of bridging the gap, reaching out to the other side and building a coalition of understanding, GLBT are just complaining that they have been wronged.”

“Stop wondering. No, it wouldn't have been the same reaction with Graham. This isn't about policy differences, it's about the fact that Warren just weeks ago compared gays to child abusers and those who practice incest. Warren led a charge in support of Prop 8, and that took place just one month ago. He is actively and prominently inserting himself into the secular political process in order to further some semblance of theocracy. That's not a spiritual advisor; that's a trouble maker. Obama's choice to give this particular guy a place of pride in our national forum is an insult and undeniable offense.
Yours and other's argument to reach across division assumes that both sides are operating in a dialectic. But religion is a closed system, based on revealed faith. There can be no meeting of minds with those who live in a bubble and wear their stupidity like a halo. And if you can look at Warren's statements and see them as middle ground, then you don't know the time of day.”

Gays in a Cage

“Fact: Although 70% of African Americans voted for Yes on Prop 8. AA made up 1 in 20 voters in California, a proportionally smaller subset of voters. Significantly, larger no of white people voted Yes on Prop 8 than No. And were the largest group (numbers wise) who voted for the ban of gay marriage
Fact: There was little outreach or education of the black and latino community done by the No on Prop 8 campaign. No on Prop 8 failed to inform/educate different minority groups in the electorate. By contrast Yes on Prop 8 was very active in spreading their messages in the churches/minority communities.
Fact: Barack Obama supported No on Prop 8. But the No on Prop 8 campaign didn't effectively leverage that support. And they didn't act swiftly enough to shut down the manipulation and propaganda that originated from the Yes on Prop 8 regarding his position.
Conclusion: No on Prop 8 failed because of
1. Comparatively poor organizing and the failure to form a coalition of diverse groups.
2. Gross underestimation of the impetus of the Yes on Prop 8 campaign plus their amount of religious/financial influence.
3. Complacency. Assuming after the Supreme Court decision and amount of news surrounding gay marriages, everyone would automatically support gay marriage.”

“Another reason why every man, woman and young adult needs to get out and vote. Vote the Republicans out of office! Voter fraud is their forte and we need to stop them now.
It's imperative that these Republicans be swept out of office. Then the people need to start lobbying the Democrat replacements to introduce new state and federal regulations to clean up the electoral system. Why in America isn't their universal registration? Why don't we have a system where if you turn 18 you are automatically registered and all you have to do is come and vote. And people who die or go to jail are automatically removed from the system.
There is also no reason that different states should have different types of voting equipment and different forms of voting ballots. Everything should be Uniformed. Early voting should be available in all states. No one should be allowed to be disenfranchised by dirty politicians and dirty tactics. No external organizations should have to collect for registrations and encourage people to vote. And be blamed if their workers defraud the organization and the system.
This is ridiculous There are better organized elections in the poorest nations in the world.”
