“Several years ago Mesa AZ wanted to do the same deal to build a stadium for the AZ Cardinals..petitions stopped that - the public spoke and the public funding was not allowed..so the Cards went to Glendale - oops..glendale has had to scramble just to keep the spaceship from leaving
Now Piggly-Wriggleyville in Mesa AZ - soon to open with major overruns..and then the owners of the Chicago team want the Federal Govt. to declare piggly-wriggly in IL, to a Natl treasure and revamp that field....and the beat goes on!
I have no problem with public-private funding (Hoover Dam) for the good of the majority of people..not private profit, and public debt!”

“Keeping dying cities and urban spaces alive after Walmart and Big Boxes sucked out the life and money before taking off may be ultimately for the good of the majority of people.”

“Indeed. Private-Public partnerships can work out well sometimes, but rarely when it involves purely for-profit enterprises.”
“We forget - when the temps are over 100 degrees for 30+ days in the summer..mad dash to deep freeze is right..heat by Nat. Gas - can be expensive..yesterday was the first day I turned on the heat..we usually can get away with the fireplace only(Nat. gas too).....we won't live above the snow line (in AZ from Mass) - I sure hope Mexico doesn't close the border to us..ala Day After Tomorrow...:) stay warm....”
“AZ is bone chilling this am..32 degrees and lower.we kept our xmas lights on the shrubs all night...we have had cold weather - but not this early in the season...

“That blaster in 2011 sure blew my gas budget. They had to turn off 40K homes in Tucson to keep the gas flowing. We are last in that El Paso line. I hope those frackers can keep up with the climate or we've all going to freeze to death, eventually. That's the inconvenient truth, after the uptick in temps comes a fast dash to the deep freeze. Folks forget that truth. I don't, I hate the cold.”
“Carrie has a beautiful voice...actress - at times, not bad - she gave it a shot...as for the Nazi symbols on stage - I do think they could have done something more appropriate...the ads by walmart - give me a break......switched off to another channel when it came on.....hey walmart - go pay your workers a living wage..”

“An eye opener at the Guardian.....this is not just a pie in the sky idea...(the Guardian should be everyones first point of research)
"Conservative groups across the US are planning a co-ordinated assault against public sector rights and services in the key areas of education, healthcare, income tax, workers' compensation and the environment," documents obtained by the Guardian reveal.
Pay attention folks...they could be coming to your state..if they haven't done so already.....”

“Obscene - and yet, people still vote against their own self interests..
Rachel did an expose on Art Pope..NC conglomerate - make sure your business is in poor neighborhoods..make billions offering products for nickles and dimes - then use clout in the political arena to push legislation against their very own consumers who made them rich.... - sweet!”
“means-test Medicare premiums. Critics of means-testing argue that such a change would undermine the popularity of the program, turning it into welfare for lower-income Americans. those who make buku bucks in retirement want their cake and eat it too - ...chained CPI for SS - not on my watch!”
“no - low consumer wages, ergo - low demand - econ 101...say what you will about me..I have broad shoulders and respect for my fellow workers..who should be paid a living wage....rather than greedy ceos being paid 1000-1”

“Greed has nothing to do with it. Do you call athletes and celebrities greedy? No. They earn whatever the market will bear. So do CEOs.”
“gee - how did all those companies pay their workers minimum wage at the time, including mine - and still survive...gee I wonder....and give raises every 6 months..geee I wonder...oh thats right - ceos weren't paid 1000 times more than their workers...”
mikennz on Dec 5, 2013 at 11:20:49
“Whatever happened to the free market? While you're busy talking about CEOs, it has to do with small biz. Those small biz owners are trying to make THEIR living and they can't be paying unskilled workers $ 22/hr. As for the big cos., YOU don't make their decisions. THEY do. So, if workers don't like the pay, then move on to another company that might pay better. Or acquire skills to get in jobs where those skills are in DEMAND !!! Not artificially set a wage control that has nothing to do with supply and demand.”
“In 1980 President Jimmy Carter, campaigning for re-election against Reagan, told crowds that: "As a traveling salesman for the American Medical Association campaign against Medicare, [Reagan] sowed the fear that Medicare would mean socialism and that it would lead to the destruction of our freedom." When the subject arose in a televised debate in late October, Reagan responded: "When I opposed Medicare, there was another piece of legislation meeting the same problem before Congress. I happened to favor the other piece of legislation and thought it would be better for the senior citizens. ... I was not opposing the principle of providing care for them..." Carter's campaign accused Reagan of "rewriting history", saying that there was no such alternative legislation...
Sound familiar? -”

“you are entitled to your own opinion, just not your own facts...minimum wage should be $22.00 in todays wage structure- I was still in HS when I started working PT at first then FT upon graduation..and I worked PT nights at another job..loved my wrk..I learned my skills within my own company (when companies were loyal to their workers)..there should be a cap on CEO earnings..the ratio at walmart is obscene..1032-1....etc etc etc...talk about rationing wages...let them eat cake mantra....
bow to the plutocrats at your own peril.....”
mikennz on Dec 2, 2013 at 16:14:09
“Then there should be a cap on everyone's earnings. You're a complete joke. This is America. Americans are free agents. If someone chooses to be unskilled labor, then that's what kind of low pay they are going to earn. It's been that way since the beginning and it's not going to change now. Too many unskilled workers in the pool. Simple economics. Low demand, big supply, depressed wages.”
mikennz on Dec 2, 2013 at 16:08:50
“Try starting your own biz and paying unskilled workers $ 22/hr. Want to see how long you stay in business.”
