“I am very, very happy with my Smartcar and feel lucky I bought it when I did, for my particular Smart is seldom available anymore. It's a 2005 model made in the Netherlands that I bought here four years ago. These babies were designed and built from the ground up by Mercedes Benz and my "fourtwo" version is the safest micro car made:
http://www .youtube.c om/watch?v =lOcJu4d2R _c
It has a turbo three-cylinder engine that can zip me up to 85 on the freeway and it gets 59 mpg if I don't try to make the car scream. It is a six speed that can be switched from manual to automatic by pushing a button. I have no trouble going to Costco to take home three cases of diet Pepsi and a full shopping cart of mindlessly purchased and often useless consumer goods. But I admit the packing can sometimes be compared to meticulously building a New England stone fence since the rear "trunk" space is small and the car is only a two-seater.
As I understand it, these new Smartcars are made in America by someone else, they are 8 inches longer and have a totally different engine. Plus the mileage on the current model only gets up into the mid or high 30s. And at around 14 to 16 thousand, you might as well buy a Toyota or something.
My wife and I think it's great and fun to drive.”

“elfish,
Our work is always cut out for us, isn't it?
I am getting more and more fascinated by the strange and unholy collusion of tea bagger regressives and liberal progressives in some strange Area 51.
They both seem to inhabit the same space like zombies on autopilot. Both sides are pretty blind and both are feeling up the proverbial elephant in the American livingroom.
I think the progressive left has stuck its hand deep into the pachyderm's corporate pile way back in the Bush years. The colorful yet innocently regressive conservatives have been so "astro-turfed" and manipulated by corporatists and banksters that they are arriving a little late to the scene. The liberals are still ahead of them by about 9 years.
But many conservative commonsense thinkers among their lot are finding themselves partying with the Stinking Pile.
Maybe both sides are REALLY starting to WAKE UP. An avalanche ready to roll?”

“actually, if we could somehow unite the impossible -- cultural conservatives (palin) and economic socialists (sanders) -- then we just might escape our misery. unfortunately, most liberals are tethered to their ideals and would rather sacrifice economic redistribution of our collective resources to the alter of gay rights and abortion. and yes, the two camps are apparently mutually exclusive (right-wing conspiracy, for sure) -- but if we don't wake up to the necessity of uniting the impossible, then all we can expect is trickle-down do-gooder liberal 'non-profit' charity. frankly, i'd rather drink the tea party's lipton than the bohemian bourgeoisie's starbucks.
granted, the bankers make money off of us, the insurance companies make money off of us, but doesn't it also disgust you that the poverty industry ('charity') makes money off of the poor? -- all under the auspice of 'help' and 'aid'? repulsive.”

As far as I am concerned, if an American cannot balance their own feelings with at least one eye on a preference for their country's higher good, then that person stands in the way of patriotic citizenship.
I have had my fill of people "letting their emotions get the better of them."”
