“I agree. Each must find their own path, and don't get dragged off into someone elses drama, don't be a victim or a rescuer. Do all the good you can that's in front of you, if it doesn't pull you off your path. Your path is clear if you are willing to be open and conscious, and if you find life exciting and adventuresome , and you are open to taking in more knowledge, you will feel that you are on your own path.. Don't let anger, jealousy, vengeance or fear block your spiritual guidance. You must keep a clear channel in order to receive it.”

Kennedy's Seat: Will Women Vote for a Woman?
Commented Dec 08, 2009 at 23:09:15 in Politics
“I disagree that women won't vote for women. Look how women turned out for Hillary Clinton and, Ann Richards, and look how many women have been elected to the house and senate in the last 20 years. Remember when Anita Hill had to testify to an all-male senate? They showed her testimony during the day when people were at work, and at night, during prime time, they showed Clarence Thomas' testimony, so he was definitely being favored.. As a matter of fact, I believe this case was the reason that Ellen Malcolm started Emilys List.. It became successful, because women were angry, and wanted to change the system. If you are too young to remember this case, I'm sure that you can find it somewhere on the internet.”

“I think what the writer is saying is that after almost 40 years since the women's movement women are under represented in government. (17% in our congress is pathetic, we are 51% of our population .) We should be much farther ahead than we are. Some of the reasons for our low numbers are for reasons that the writer experienced; women can be very hard on other women and perhaps that is because we see so few women in leadership positions. It's a cycle that perpetuates itself. I think the writer's use of the commonly heard phrase "I won't vote for her just because she's a woman" should be turned on its head to "I will vote for her because she is a great candidate and we need more women representing women." If we are 51% of the population we should be 51% of our elected government officials. That is fair.”

We hold all 3 branchs of government . If we can't do this now, then we will believe the old saw that " there's not a dimes worth of difference in the 2 major parties."”

“The Supreme Court is securely in conservative hands. Ours may be the most conservative Supreme Court since FDR tried to stuff them in 1937. Oddly enough because it's just what you might expect, this makes a difference. The contrast between eight years of Democratic rule in 2000 and eight years of Republican rule in 2008 could not be more vivid.
As one of his last official acts, the former President vetoed the children's health initiative. Today, we are speculating that a public option MIGHT NOT pass this year. After our hopes were raised so high, this would be a serious disappointment, but going back to what we had ... ?
Certainly, we should pursue our best interests since we are due a share in what is our country. This is not totally from greed or even ambition, but because our hungry and unemployed citizens wish most of all for the opportunities and strength to serve our country. Given there is a conflict of interests between the most of us and each fraction, some hyperbole is a natural and gratifying response. There is real desperation out there.
I think of a definition of "adventure:" Somebody else having a hard time. Poverty is certainly an adventure and something of a soap. It has to be a hollow comfort, but in these hard times, the stricken are all heroes, both the problem and, as they come through, the solution, the real hope of America as a nation and a people.”

Although I detest the custom of making women invisible by the burka, still they have gained some rights., from burkas to scarves, and the ability to push back the scarf a bit.. We should remember how long it took us to evolve for women's rights. Behind the burka are some beautiful, intelligent women who are working for women's issues, so the burka may hide their face and body, it does not hinder their brain power and courage. Common Sense 2009

“I think we have been sold a bill of goods on capitalism. They say that anyone can rise to the top. Well, not really. They buy congress that give them laws and tax breaks that benefit them. They stole all the money that people had saved, from savings and loans. They set up a ponzi scheme called the stock market, and guess who made all the illegal profits and left you holding the bag. Capitalism ,in its present form has destroyed our country. They shipped jobs overseas, open off-shore shell corporations to avoid taxes.. They have hundreds of lawyers who find ways to avoid taxes, or ignore pollution controls, and then find ways to game the system.. They buy their power, we have no money to buy power. They call it socialism, when the government wants to do something to benefit the people, but their bailouts are called "saving the economy" and" too big to fail" IWe can't stop them from lying and stealing, but we can refuse to accept that its all for the common good. No, it's for the Enrons, the AIGS, the Bank of America, the Maloffs, and those who have no decency.. Maybe they will experience Karma.”

Three Reasons Why a Strong Public Option is Likely to be Part of Health Insurance Reform
Commented Aug 19, 2009 at 02:57:32 in Politics
“The subsidies that are given to private companies to pay for" medicare advantage" plans should be put back into medicare system, and open medicare for all. Medicare Advantage(an oxymoron) does not allow you to pick your doctor or hospital, must select from their approved list, while the real medicare lets you select your own caregivers and hospitals. . My doctors all accept medicare. I have been with them for years. However my supplemental seldom pays. They decline 95 % of my claims. "Medicare for all" would bring millions more paying in, many of whom are young and use less healthcare, and also we would have preventive healthcare, which is badly needed We must have a public option. By the way, I am 85, but not worried about rationed care or death panels or euthaniasa. That is what we get from private companies. If you have no money, you get to die.”
Three Reasons Why a Strong Public Option is Likely to be Part of Health Insurance Reform
Commented Aug 19, 2009 at 02:43:33 in Politics
“I have been on Medicare for 20 years, and it works beautifully,. They don't try to fight or delay legitimate claims, and they pay promptly. I would like to see "Medicare for all" The private insurance companies could compete for the supplemental plans. The best answer to our problems is to eliminate lobbyists, by passing public financing for elections, and that should be our next goal. Our representatives should be taking care of the peoples business, instead of out raising money for the next election. Not much will change until we get public financing for elections.”

“I have a true story for you.. A friend and I were in one of those neighborhood health centers. We heard a conversation from the person at the window, to a young mother, and a little boy about 4 years old. The woman was sending them away without treatment because their insurance was not effective. As they walked out ,my friend and I stood, and asked how much it would cost, and she said" for one or two" "It would cost $75 for each one. " I asked if both mother and son were sick, and the mother said , "My son is sick, and I have a spider bite that I wanted the doctor to look at, but I can wait for mine. Imagine that!!! Is this America or a greedy, profit system that needs to be drowned? We paid $75 for the little boy, and I whispered to the mother to just ask the doctor to look at her spider bite when she got in there. Both mother and son thanked us and went in. I am furious. Everyone has a similiar story. I am an old woman but I will go to any state and knock on a thousand doors to defeat those members of congress who vote against a government option. We the people are fed up. Please take heed!!!!!!”

“Yes, I agree. Get rid of the lobbyists. Same amount of public financing for each candidate and let them use it as they see fit, no more, no less. Plus, EVERY candidate must be screened for eligibility, all public records made available ie. birth certificate, passports, educational records, medical records, etc., pass a polygraph test, undergo medical and psychological testing to determine fitness for the job. Have open debates for all eligible candidates with questions from the American people, not preselected by the media or political parties. Have a list of questions regarding national concerns and topics in which each candidate will be required to have a written statement of their position. This would be a good start.”
