Tiger Woods Deserves Your Scrutiny

Commented Dec 01, 2009 at 16:23:19 in Sports

“I threw the Jesus quote in there to bait you socially enept and unconscious right wing ghouls who think child slave labor is ok.

I have all the money I need and am happy NOT to wear Nike. Although I am also smart enough to recognize most clothing is now manufactured on the backs of child slaves. However, Phil Knight pioneered child exploitation to make his shoes..."Free Trade" is a myth. The promise was cheaper goods...those shoes cost $3 to make thanks to little kids. Phil and Tiger split the difference. You'd be hard pressed to find a pair under $100.

Ignorance of the law is never an excuse in court. Ignorance of the blood and sweat of child labor is also NO EXCUSE! I'm happy Tiger is a billionaire. It's just too bad most of it came from horrific slave labor.

If it bothers you...just move along and look the other way-it worked for Michael Jordan and Tiger Woods.”

obelix1349 replied on Dec 01, 2009 at 17:38:28

“Well do you wear any clothes that say Made in....China, Bangladesh, Thailand, Pakistan etc.?

Nike buys its material from the factories in those countries but so do hundreds of other companies.

How come no one questions Reebok, Adidas or even any of the fashion lines?”

Tiger Woods Deserves Your Scrutiny

Commented Dec 01, 2009 at 03:13:22 in Sports

“Great Great Piece Dave Zirin!

I don't care one bit what Tiger Woods' personal issues are with his wife. That's a private matter.

However, Tiger Woods is the 21st Century's Michael Jordan when it comes to NOT HAVING A SOCIAL CONSCIENCE! In the 90s, the most famous and most beloved athlete on the planet, MICHAEL JORDAN, was asked about the child slaves that labored to manufacture the $100+ Nike shoes he hawked. MJ's reaction? "Not my department...I'm just the spokesman" or words to that effect. Michael Jordan could have single-handedly ended that practice and raised labor standards to the point of turning sweat shops into living-wage factories!

And now there is Tiger Woods. Another "Not my department" kinda guy! Obviously, Tiger can make a billion dollars and not care if 3 year olds were working 20 hour days. But, like Michael Jordan, Tiger Woods has the ability to change those working standards. Jesus said, “For everyone to whom much is given, from him much will be required; and to whom much has been committed, of him they will ask the more.” (Luke 12:48). Stan Lee said, "With Great Power comes Great Responsibility".

Much has been given to Michael and Tiger. They both were blessed with enormous talent that they refined with hard work. And they both have blown opportunities to give back and help eliminate slave labor around the planet.

Dave, you were really great on television today. Thanks for such a great, thoughtful piece!”

Palin's Oily Lies Drip from the Pages of Going Rogue

Commented Nov 16, 2009 at 17:54:01 in Politics

“Oprah Winrey has built up a lot of capital with her audience over the years. Whether through her considerable film catalogue, or her television show, or her humanitarian work, Oprah has always been outspoken and done the right thing.

Her softball interview of Sarah Palin was disgusting. When James Frey was revealed to have written fiction and shopped it as non-fiction, Oprah shredded him. Oprah had an opportunity to blow Sarah Palin into a million little pieces and blew it...Sarah's hypocrisy and lies are all well documented.

There's been talk of this season being Oprah's last. Why would Oprah, a billionaire, toss softballs to Sarah Palin? I think this will irreputably damage Oprah's reputation. True to form...Sarah Palin never brings out the best in ANYONE!”

connect2u93 replied on Nov 18, 2009 at 03:00:42

“My fellow poster, Oprah is no fool. I do not think that she is finished with this. So many of us have been caught up in to the sensationalism presented to us by the MSM and others about SP that we tend to forget to look at the obvious. What's obvious here is that SP is simply on a money making venture, not a run for president. She has been presented the opportunity of a life time and so as any other opportunist would do she and her hubby are pouncing on it. She is not the first to do it nor will she be the last.

While the world is being indoctrinated, either being pro or con towards the era of SP the party at the center of all the interest simply rolls up their sleeves and plays the game not giving a thought as to what we all believe or not believe. This gravy train like all others has a limited life span (about 3 more years 2012) before the truth comes to light and a new plan goes into effect.”

redsongia replied on Nov 16, 2009 at 22:33:49

It just took declassification to SOLVE EVERYTHING! Hhmmm...did you bother to ask if anything was still classified? Oh...of course not...all the secrets were declassified...it's a goddamn open book in Nevada...

“I love Bill Maher. However, Bill is flat WRONG about 9/11. To lump "truthers" in with "birthers" is just another way to deflect and mock an event that has had far more devastating consequences for the US as well as the rest of the world. Obama was born in HAWAII. But...what if he wasn't? What if the birthers are right? Would over a million people die as a result? Would we be in 2 endless and costly wars? Would our civil liberties and the Bill of Rights have been destroyed?

NO!

Maher is a denier. A denier of facts that are easily available for ANYONE to check out. Who planned and executed 9/11? I dunno. Is the official Government Conspiracy Theory Accurate? Unambiguously and indisputably NO!

No one is served by calling people who question the official unproven theory kooks. Like any movement, there are crazies everywhere. Don't throw the baby out with the bathwater. A new, honest 9/11 investigation would go a long way to understanding the events of that day. I doubt it will ever happen. Obama has become Mr. Move Along...Nothing To See...”
