Breakthrough: Health Care Talks Advance In Senate

Breakthrough: Health Care Talks Advance In Senate

Commented Dec 09, 2009 at 00:15:23 in Politics

“Maybe they should just change the name of the Medicare buy-in and call it the public option. Because nothing in this health care bill seems to register with some people unless the words public and option are next to each other. Even though more people would benefit from the buy-in than they would with the watered-down public option. Just a thought.”

“One thing that people don't seem to realize, or at least acknowledge, when it comes to Bill Maher, is that he isn't really that funny. After years of watching Bill Maher, I had come to realize about him is that he is a really good social critic with a smug, snarky exterior.”

Libbety replied on Sep 25, 2009 at 15:49:32

“Well he is funny in a sarcastic way which doesn't appeal to alot of people. Come on tho... cut the Obama administration some slack. This economy is like turning the Titanic around. The momentum keeps comming regardless of the different directions we take, however, this too shall pass.”

Emerald1943 replied on Sep 25, 2009 at 15:34:33

“No, he's not a "good social critic".....he's a GREAT social critic! With all the BS coming out of Washington that never seems to end (like death panels, Obama is socialist, he's gonna' take away your guns, etc.) I know I can count on Bill to call it like it really is! Would that more "pundits" on the idiot box had the stones that Bill Maher has!”

Grand Illusion No More

Commented Sep 07, 2009 at 22:09:28 in Politics

“"Uncle! Uncle! Let go of my ear! Uncle for Christ sake!"

That's how I feel right now. So I don't want to come across like some Obama-Messiah loving sycophant, but it's kind of hard when your responding to something like this. So these are my basic generalizations to describe the disillusioned, former Obama supporter:

* You voted for him. You worked tirelessly to get him elected and now your pissed and feel betrayed (and make a point of showing it).

* You like to use the words "us" and "we" to describe "them" and "they", to show that you are a true Progressive (i.e. important) and they are centrist.

* Your thin skin and take disagreements personally and resort to writing hyperbolic articles/comments to show it.

A wise man once said that "patience is a virtue", and that's a code to live by, because at the end of the day, what everybody wants is a nice little health care bill that we can all look at and go "ooooh, aaahh". But we're not there yet, until then it's all theater. And until then, somebody needs to pick up a U.S. Government textbook and read the part about the legislative process. It's very boring, patience acquired.”

TheHandyman replied on Sep 08, 2009 at 01:20:44

“Another wise man said, 'no amount of patience will help you catch fish if you don't have bait!" And in this case, this is not about waiting for the legislative process to work because these people want to build a horse and buggy when what is needed is mass transportation! This isn't about the process not working, this is about the President not advocating and fighting for what he knows to be right, single payer, but his fighting for some vague thing called a public option. And that is what Brenner is pointing out and so many people like you don't seem to get it!”

“Excellent. This guy is a total t o o l.”

Christian replied on Sep 07, 2009 at 22:45:38

“Then apparently you have yours! Your OK, your premiums are up, that's good for you and you can afford patience but there are thousands of people under tremendous stress and pain because of the type of health care we have in this country. There are people dying every day because they have no access at all beyond charity. I also feel it is right to fight for our fellow man, to do what we can to help others, and in this issue there is a need for action and leadership. We will not get it unless we make it known and it seems they don't listen unless you get on the news cycle. Now how do you get on the five o'clock news I wonder? Has the right given us a lesson on media attraction lately?”

Obama Got Involved In Gates's Personal Dispute

Commented Aug 01, 2009 at 19:51:12 in New York

“So I'm speaking at a live national press conference, I'm taking questions from reporters, then a reporter asks me a question, the question is about the arrest of a friend (I mean crony) of mine, who happens to be a famous Harvard Professor and who happens to be black. How do I respond? I'm a politician, so I should just blow this question off. Or maybe, the hell with it, just tell the truth. Hmm...”

“If you've got something useful to say then say it. You can try snarky humor (beer, ha ha). Or you can say something much more serious, such as this story seems to have brought out the worst in people, and brought to the fore the most polarizing aspect of this society-namely race. And peoples own personal insecurities when it comes to race. It's extremely evident if you've been paying attention to the comments sections and forums on many web sites and not just so-called conservative sites but more mainstream outlets. Me personally, I can't wait for this story to die out. I view it more as a distraction than as a springboard for any meaningful discussion on whatever pops into anybody's precious little minds.”

President Obama Profiled Me

Commented Jul 24, 2009 at 18:36:54 in Politics

“What this all comes down to, once you get past this "profiling" nonsense, is about a wealthy person who doesn't want to pay more taxes.”

XME replied on Jul 25, 2009 at 00:00:28

“Perhaps, but maybe there SHOULD be debate as to why a person who makes $250K a year should be taxed at a significantly higher percentage rate than a person who earns $75K a year. Either way, the person who makes more pays more taxes. Personally, I have no disagreement with folks who make more paying more, but when you look at how significantly those percentages can be, there is something to be said for them having a right to gripe. We all work hard for our paychecks, and if I worked my but off to make $250K a year, I probably wouldn't be too happy to have someone making half that basically getting a break on the percentage rate applied to THEIR income.

I think if someone wants the "rich" to consider their viewpoint, it has to start with considering theirs, even if we disagree, and see that their point might at least be valid, even if we disagree.”
