When Rabbis Fail Their Communities

Commented Jul 30, 2009 at 01:24:59 in Politics

“I'm sorry Rabbi but oughten those rabbi's of had a whole lot of "the sprinklings of holiness in order that we be inspired to live righteously."???

I'm not saying it's not good. I'm saying it's not what stops or starts a person from being good or bad. Those are the choices - or struggles.”

Education Attacks on Darling-Hammond Don't Fit Obama's Post-Partisanship

Commented Dec 14, 2008 at 00:45:19 in Politics

“Why wouldn't he appoint DC Chancellor Rhee? She is a no-nonsense education leader. I know the teachers unions hate her but but she's got guts.”

Camel54 replied on Dec 15, 2008 at 10:19:32

“Because not every school district in America is as problematic as DC and the entire nation doesn't need someone who rules with a baseball bat when a baton is often required. Don't get me wrong, I don't dislike Rhee or all of her methods, but it's inappropriate at best to use her Jack Bauer style of education policy across the country. Sure, it looks heroic and no-nonsense and all that movie-of-the-week-ish, but in reality it would not work for the majority of schools.”

blindjester replied on Dec 14, 2008 at 10:47:30

“I love aphorisms, too. Maybe you know this one:

"It's better to keep your mouth shut and give the impression that you're stupid than to open it and remove all doubt."

That's a good one. And you know, you can trust an aphorism. They're always true.”

Breaking News -- College Is Unaffordable for Most

Commented Dec 04, 2008 at 19:39:20 in Living

“How exactly is this breaking news? College has always been unaffordable for most. That is why there are all sorts of loans that are needed. Anytime you need to borrow money to obtain something - it is unaffordable. Period.”

Paul replied on Dec 07, 2008 at 12:57:17

“The conventional wisdom is that the loans are an investment in greater earning power.

If that ever changes, colleges will be in for a big let down.”

“Yes because you cannot necessarily determine that is why a majority of the people would have voted "for" him. This was the error in 2000 and 2004. Democrats get so caught up in reasons for getting elected and don't care about getting elected. Bush didn't care that he slandered McCain in SC. He cared that he won that primary! GROW UP! Play the game by the current rules. Not by the rules you want there to be. You don't get points for being the nicest candidate in the world. You only win by winning.”

luckyrico1 replied on Oct 22, 2008 at 00:47:34

“Because Bush (Rove) slandered and smeared everybody and created an atmosphere of fear and hatred is exactly why Obama will prevail. We are so sick of the abuse of our democracy. The end justifies the means until the people stand up and revolt against the 1% with the assets.

We will NOT "eat cake". I'm honing my pitch fork for the pitchfork and torch riots. Only this time we need to take it not to the cities (they are the ones who vote for Obama), but to the "pro-American" small towns.”

“Paula,

There are indeed two Americas and there are irreconcilable differences. Why stay in a country that not only acts in ways contrary to your thinking but also spends your money against your will? Aren't you tired of the blue states funding the red states? Think about what would happen if the all the blue state folks just got up and left? There would be no money left to fund the nightmares of the red staters. Naturally there are people of all ideologies mixed in but you get my point. Your argument is naive. This is a battle not dissimilar to Vietnam or Iraq and perhaps there is no way to win - maybe we just need to withdraw?”

“The Main Stream Media seems not to have noticed this - or is conveniently ignoring it.

Last night on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, Sen. McCain appeared to claim that Barry Goldwater's loss was corrected by the assassination of Jack Kennedy in Dallas.

McCain: ...Where I learn is from a town hall meeting. That's where you learn hopes, dreams, aspirations and concerns of Americans who are hurt right now. So if we stood on the stage together, it changes the atmosphere. Many years ago Barry Goldwater and Jack Kennedy had agreed to fly around the country and from one place to another and stand before the American people. I still with Senator Obama would do that.

Leno: ...Look what happened to Barry Goldwater.

McCain: ...As you know the tragedy of Dallas intervened. But I think it would have been great for the American people to see us stand together.

So John McCain does essentially the same thing as Hillary Clinton, and not a peep from the media???”

“Forgive me for sounding naive but I think this is getting blown a little out of proportion. There is plenty of frustration to go around when it comes to J'lem and I don't think anyone really believes that Obama would expect the Israelis or Palestinians to go into any negations without being willing to talk about Jerusalem. And I doubt he meant that Jerusalem would be only for Jews. So let's all settle down. It's been a long campaign and no one has rested.”
