Hottest Cities For Job Seekers - Where The Jobs Are Now

“Remember, we have a state capital without direct air service. Oh yeah, and it's raining all the time. And Portland has this giant store full of books printed on paper. Don't even think of moving here . . .”

“Our local Borders feels creepy, with nothing but patriot and Christian stuff. No one buys that. How many of the Palin book readers will actually buy a second book within the year? Not many. Go to your local independent bookstore, support vendors who actually read the books.”

Mum replied on Dec 31, 2009 at 05:05:02

“My only nearby bookstore (within 10 miles) is a Borders, and I can guarantee you that they have significantly more than "patriot and Christian stuff." I would be very surprised if your store is that different from ours because even the lay-out of the stores is dictated by the corporate powers. The stores really don't differ from each other very much, except possibly in size and slight lay-out adjustments that are made depending upon the space they occupy. My Borders tries as much as possible to cater to local interests with customer service, and the employees are a book-savvy group. They've tried on several occasions to particularize aspects of their store in accord with their customer profiles and interests but were shot down by the regional managers. While that is an issue, not only with some of the customers but with most of the employees I've talked to, it doesn't take away from the fact that, as the only bookstore in the area, Borders provides a valuable service to the community and the book-lover that would be sorely missed.

I shop at independent bookstores of all kinds when I go into the city (25 miles away), but I would definitely miss my Borders.”

“Yeah. Much like how I feel totally creeped out with the Devil worshipping shite at any bookstore.”

kalih replied on Dec 30, 2009 at 21:20:52

“Thank you for reccommending a local bookstore. I work at one and I can tell you that it is a completely different experience than going to a large chain store or shopping on-line. We actually like to read and I read book reviews as often as I can so I can help customers to the best of my ability. And the folks who buy Palin, Beck and Brown generally do not come back fo another title within six months or a year, as you said. My little store survives because we have people who come in and understand that it is important to support small local business and paying the four dollars that they could have saved on Amazon is a small price to pay to have a lovely bookstore in their town, with helpful employees who actually like their job. Suppost your local small business!!! :)”

“If these politicians are so afraid of losing it's clear they really don't have much of a base at home. I'm sure there are about 6 highly qualified popular Democratic progressives that would eagerly run against them in the primary. No need for the rest of us to suffer to keep these lame brains in office. Just because they are lousy and not really popular at home doesn't mean we need them in Congress, no matter what party they claim to represent.”

“Southern states have so many military bases nearly everyone there is covered by the VA program. They are getting "socialized" medicine, just don't want any one else to have it. And, they don't want to pay for it, so the Blue States, where the federal revenue comes from, are already paying for the VA system.”

“This really is class war and the rich won; the new bill puts a 10% tax on tanning beds, which hurts small businesses and people too poor to spend winter vacations on the beach. Cosmetic surgery, however, remains untaxed.”

vote independent replied on Dec 20, 2009 at 12:31:05

“10% tax on tanning beds?

Here's an interesting fact. People who suffer from PSORIASIS require the use of Ultra Violet A/B or Narrow Band B tanning beds for treatment of their genetic immune system skin disease.

Those who have Psoriasis and use these tanning beds have no increase in skin cancer than anyone else.

Soooo basically, people with Psoriasis are going to get screwed because buying a home unit is already expensive.... this will now severely screw those that need these units. THANKS WASHINGTON.
