“Now the settlers who have launched repeated brutal attacks against Palestinians and Palestinian property turn on their own. The settler movement will end up being a catastrophe for Israel. Sharon's plan to put facts on the ground will backfire bigtime.”

lightningbolt replied on Dec 16, 2009 at 11:23:28

“Sharon withdrew from Gaza and as a result many people died. The same will probably happen in the West Bank.”

WBMD replied on Dec 16, 2009 at 08:02:07

“Problem here, lb, just as happened in Gaza. Sharon in his time, Rabin in his time, and now Netanyahu, were elected by wide margins, on the basis of specific platforms. In all those cases, the politicians, rightly or wrongly, made a 180 degree about-face, abandoned their electoral platforms, and undertook irreversible actions which their electorate feared, and to which they vehemently objected. While politicians abandoning electoral promises does happen ever so rarely, undercutting the democratic process is not in anyone's best interest either.

In each of these cases, a snap election, or referendum, would have allowed the majority, again rightly or wrongly, to express its will.”

“Gore is only repeating what reputable scientists are saying. I give Gore great credit for raising public awareness, but the entire world should be grateful to the many hardworking climate change scientists who have worked extremely hard to collect the data that made the case for anthropogenic global warming. They are the real heros and they have to endure the rightwing deniers repeating their ignorant statements over and over again.”

“Most global warming deniers are not scientists, almost none publish in peer reviewed scientific journals in a field related to climate change. Nothing about the outlandish and bizzare claims of deniers has anything to do with science. Deniers are not engaged in a scientific debate, they are engaged in paranoid fantasies and delusions. Many are duped by the energy industry and some of the key figures are in the pay of the fossil fuel industry through the intermediary method of phony think tanks funded by the fossil fuel industry.”

I hope that Obama can find a way under existing laws to begin to reduce the use of fossil fuels. The majority of Congress is in sync with him. It is only a minority in the Senate that opposses efforts to curb CO2. That minority are either ignorant, corrupt, really stupid or some combination of those three characteristics. They are also certainly morally bankrupt.”

Rise In Sea Levels Threatens California Ports

Rise In Sea Levels Threatens California Ports

Commented Dec 11, 2009 at 18:28:23 in Los Angeles

“You are living in fantasy land. the poles are melting and Greenland is not far behind. There is a good chance the level of sea rise is much higher than the Times article indicates.”

Masonator2 replied on Dec 12, 2009 at 01:10:44

“the poles are melting? that is the best you can come up with? do you get worried when the ice cubes start melting in your drink that the water is going to flood over onto your swag carpet?

There is no land under the north pole, hence, our ability to drive subs under them, meaning that even if they melt, the water level wont change. The ocean all ready reflect their displacement as a ice cube does in your lemonade.”

Richard2 replied on Dec 11, 2009 at 22:34:00

“The most recent sea level measurements for San Francisco are approximately one quarter of a meter lower than the peak measurements in 1998, and are lower than several of the other measurements from the 1980s and 1990s.

If an unusual sea level rise is taken as a sign of Global Warming, as the first sentence of this article implies, then the San Francisco tide station has been detecting the opposite, global cooling, since 1998. The two may not go together, but the author of this article certainly implies that they do. Using this logic, none of the California ports need to be preparing for global warming or rising sea levels. Historically, when the Pacific Ocean enters a cooling phase, the phase lasts for a couple of decades or so, according to scientists.”

fumes replied on Dec 11, 2009 at 20:29:22

the air is so cold out here on the peninsula..

that we could refreeze the poles with it if we had a way to get it there!”

Richard2 replied on Dec 11, 2009 at 19:33:09

“Can you think of any second hand physical evidence that supports your assertion?

There is second hand evidence that supports the opposite. During the late 20th Century, there were certain low lying residential areas in California that the ocean would flood from time to time. Portions of Seal Beach in Orange County, Venice in LA County, and South Mission Beach in San Diego. The frequency of these widely publicized flooding events has dropped off during the past ten years.”

“What a farce the repressive regime of Egypt is preventing the Palestinians from defending themselves from the Israeli forces that are viciously blockading Palestine. Those tunnels are also a source of many other needed goods that Israel prevents from reaching Palestine. The treatment of the Palestinians in Gaza by Israel is a crime against humanity.
