You probably live on land we took from someone else. But unfortunately, the real curs are the conservatives who feel they are the privileged ones and all others are inferior. It's too bad Palin wants to represent them. She certainly no better than anyone else except in her dreams.”

“It's no secret why conservatives hate ACORN and other groups like it. For one, these groups are trying to aid the less fortunate in society and of course conservatives hate that. It's in their DNA; they are the spawn of Ebenezer Scrooge and the poor are simply Tiny Tim's who need to be ground under or at least exploited until no longer of use. But mostly they fear these groups because they try to empower these people to stand up to the powers that be and fight back by registering to vote and use the one power the rich and powerful can't take away from the; the right to vote. If millions of poor people exercised this right, they could lose their power and that's what conservatives fear most.”

“As the story goes, Jesus of Nazareth was a liberal preacher who began spreading the of word of God that all should be just and fair and minister to the poor and downtrodden while shunning the wicked, the hypocrites and the moneychangers. This so infuriated and scared the Pharisees (the phony, corporate preachers) that they betrayed him to the Romans(conservatives) who then promptly executed him. Has anything really changed in 2000 years? We have the modern day Pharisees who are just as morally corrupt as ever doing the bidding of the new age conservatives who would surely murder the next Jesus Christ who came along if he interfered with their lust for greed, power and control of the masses. My only hope is that there is a God and all these people burn in hell.”

I fully quoted you because your post reflects much in the way of insight and foresight.

And you are so correct: Jesus Christ would be tried and executed today if he were here, and by those who profess to "know" him.

Thanks for your post, lew.

““Has anything really changed in 2000 years?”

Quite a bit, actually a complete reversal of things.

Old Testament: “Eye for eye, and tooth for tooth...With the sword purify the evil from among you.”

New Testament: “Do not use force to overcome evil. If they smash you on the right cheek, turn to them the other also... Whole world is under the control of the evil one...The power of death and deadly force – that is the devil.”

And so, as all this world does is go from bad to worse, when will things turn toward the good? Immediately after things could not possibly turn any worse.”

Danger on the Right

“I was almost with you until you blamed this mess on Obama and the Democrats. Although they are not perfect, where were you the last 8 years while the Bush administration laid the foundation for the disaster we face? Or his father? Or Reagan before that? Their plan was to loot the government while at the same time destroying it. And now that they are out of power, it's all sour grapes. Republicans only want to rule because they are not smart enough to govern. That's why they are pushing anarchy, not democracy. They lost for a reason. Believe me, when this country finally fails, as most civilizations do, it will be the Republican Party and their lackeys who bring it down. As they are trying to do right now.”

“The most influential people in the founding of this country and our constitution (Benjamin Franklin, Thomas Jefferson, James Madison, George Washington, Thomas Paine among others) were Deists, who believe that God created our world but doesn't listen to our prayers or intervene in our affairs and that Jesus was just a man who preached that we should be a more humane and moral people. Of course, we killed him for that. The same thing would probably happen today. But the Bible is just a series of stories put together by human men hundreds of years after the fact. The actual events of Genesis happened many centuries before humans even had a written language. So anyone who claims they know better than anyone else about the how religious we should be is a fool. If God wanted to strike down the humans who have exploited his name for their advantage, there would be plenty of dead American politicians and preachers. If we only lived by the moral codes we claim God laid down for us, this would be a better world. Unfortunately, we don't practice what we preach.”

“Thomas Jefferson's letters make it clear that he was anything but a deist. Here is just one quote:

"The day will come when the mystical generation of Jesus by the Supreme Being in the womb of a virgin, will be classed with the fable of the generation of Minerva in the brain of Jupiter."

Those are not the words of a man who takes anything about religion seriously.

The "actual events" in Genesis are no more actual than the events described in a Grimm Brothers fairy tale. Life began as a matter of chemistry and physics 4 billion years ago, not with some dust gathered up into which an invisible man in the sky with magical powers breathed through the dusty nose. The story is not even a good one. The Incas have better origin stories. The one in Genesis is bad copy, and not even consistent within the distance of few verses; first we're told god made Adam and then Eve from his rib; then we're told he made both together. There are no "actual" events in Genesis.”

Audra Shay and The New Ice Age of the Young Republicans

“As much as I would love to pile on and pummel this woman and her friends for their ignorance and bigotry, and it would extremely easy to do, I am hesitant even though they deserve it. But what really bothers me is that there are millions of so called Americans who see nothing wrong with the comments they made. The are scores of Republicans in Congress and in statehouses mainly across the South who owe their positions to people who think exactly like that. Screaming the 'N' word in their presence would most likely get a chuckle, not a scowl or reprimand. The Republicans used their 'Southern Strategy' to win and that's about all they have left. I don't think they intend to abandon it anytime soon. They still think it's a winning strategy and will exploit all the low brow Americans who believe in it. And again, there are millions of them I'm sad to say.”

DannyDanson replied on Jul 13, 2009 at 08:21:27

“You are exactly right, for the most part these attitudes exist outside of the public debate that we are having here, often in rural pockets that re-enforce themselves internally, and protects their ideology unconsciously by aligning themselves in automatic opposition against any outside or "liberal" element that happens to make it's presence known to the group.

We must devise a strategy to address and highlight the reality that exist beneath that "Good Olde Boy" narrative we must highlight the "insider" corruption and unchristian "intolerence" that is prevalent within the "Good Olde Boy" society that has generally ascribed to educated "liberals" and democrats, we must fight the temptation to attack these constiuencies as uneducated "red****s" because while the GOP is using our comment to rally these voters, they are they one actually treating them like uneducated votes, they have been trained to believe that recieving anything from the government they pay taxes to is a sign of weakness, laziness and sloth, when oftentimes their elected officials are recieveing kickbacks, and payoffs from the corporate elites and captains of industry that Republicans claim are in the pockets of liberal democrats, we have to do 2 things to turn this around.

1.) Hold our liberal officials to higher standards
2.) Highlight double standards and doublespeak of GOP officials who, claim to be products of the small town realities they represent , but act like the big corporation spin-miesters and lap dogs that they accused democrats of being.”

Hope to Heartache: General Motors and the American Dream

“Great story. Sad but true, the American Dream is now gone. A working person has nothing left except a life a scraping by, chasing jobs with no hope of security while the wealthy lord over the latest version of the sharecropper. A college degree mean very little, the middle class are becoming the working poor and I don't see much hope that we will ever get back to full employment and a stable society. I hope I'm wrong but I see a lot of politicians who are selling us out so we can go back to the good old days of the 1920's. They are doing everything they can to prevent working people from reaching the middle class. And we are just sitting by and willing to accept it but there are few options out there now. “Great post, John. As a fan going back to the first 'record', I agree with most everything you said. When the corporate types ruined radio, that ruined the record industry. They cut back on AR people and there was no one nurture and sign new artists and nowhere to get your music heard. I was totally turned off by the music industry for years but my faith has been somewhat restored by the internet. I thought good music and creativity had been destroyed but it's still out there. I was shocked by the amount of talented people out there who you won't hear anywhere else. But real musicians will never be rewarded anymore in the way the manufactured artists are. I do wish your idea of a musician friendly record company would come to pass. And I loved your acoustic live-in-the studio music on KPIG, the original internet music streaming station. Now I mostly buy music from the artists web site after hearing them online. I would rather support the artist than huge record companies. But the people I really love will never be signed by these corporate companies anyway. Keep up the good work.”

Save the Pitiful F-22

Commented Feb 05, 2009 at 12:01:03 in Politics

“The F-15 is something like 89-0 in real combat situations against actual enemy planes flying today. It's probably even better than that if we add Israeli pilots kills. This aircraft is an old design but has been upgraded several times and only costs about $65 million each. While I agree the F-22 is superior in some ways, who exactly are we going up against that have aircraft that are even equal to the F-15. At 5 times the cost, there is simply no way to justify the price. I used to work in the defense industry for a competitor and what I know for sure is that Lockheed has the best politicians and lobbyists that money can buy. They have won many contracts with inferior products. I know it's a job thing and that's how they're going to spin it. But we could employ just as many people building the cheaper alternative and put that money to better use.”

ModerateWarrior replied on Feb 05, 2009 at 13:15:40

“Metal 4th Gen jets like the F-15/16/18 are flying targets for SA-20/300/400. We also don't have thousands any more--we have 450 25+ yr old F-15s. They are also more than matched by the Su27/30/35 and MiG-29+/35, so rather than waste tax$$ on new models of obsolete jets, so we must buy new ones. Fact: For 40% more than F-15 you get F-22 for $140M, and it can kill 6 enemy jets in 2 min without being seen. Problem is to fulfill our National Military Strategy you have to have more than 183, as in like 60-200 more. 30+ DoD&AF studies agree.”

iblogleft replied on Feb 05, 2009 at 13:00:56

“5 times the cost at current expense. If you add inflation, R&D and initial costs, I would bet they will cost the same when the last F-22 rolls out. The f-15 is a beautiful machine, but it is at the end of it's life, or will be, by the time we have a replacement ready.

This is not one of the bad guys, but there are many out there. I have another post to help explain. I had to split the damn thing up..”

Bluedrgn replied on Feb 05, 2009 at 12:28:51

“Most of the cost of the plane is R&D. So a HUGE portion of the cost per plane is based on how many we buy. If we buy 200. Then they are 265 million each. Buy 400, they are 180 million each, 800 then they would be 120 million etc.

Mostly we are going to replace or F-15, and F-16s with the F-35 "Joint Strike fighter" made cheaper because more will be sold, and because much of the technology it uses come from all the research they already did on the F-22's.”

Cars: If "Buy American" Were History

“Does anyone remember the bumper sticker "Be American, Buy American"? Apparently not enough people do. I have driven new American made cars since 1980 and I've never had any major problems and the quality has now risen to the level of most imports. I wish more Americans would be 'American'. The Japanese won't buy our products, not because of the quality, but because of their loyalty to their own brands. It's too bad Americans aren't so loyal. Nothing ticks me off as much as seeing a Kia or Toyota driver with American flag and patriotic bumper stickers plastered all over their cars. I know people make all kinds of excuses for their actions and choices but the bottom line is that if you support other countries over your own, you're not patriotic and don't put our flag on it to make you feel better. McCain scares me and I think other friendly governments around the world are scared to death of a McCain presidency. That's why every time he opens his mouth with his silly vile rants, the overseas markets tank.”

“If McCAin/Palin win the election, the NeoCons will probably knock off McCain somehow within the first year and sucessfully take over the government using Palin as their puppet. This is what they really want to do and it will so easy this way. And Palins team will stall all investigations of her until after the election, ala Karl (Komrade) Rove's playbook. We are toast if they pull it off. We are already dragging the world down into financial meltdown, thanks to Bush, our first MBA president, and his minions. And McCain is even dumber, especially on the economy. God help the USA.”

“One way or another that sounds like the plan.

It doesn't seem like McCain put much reasoning into why else might the Neocons would want Sara Palin to be Vice-President.”

“"God help the USA." I know what you're thinking, but I prefer, "God helps those who help themselves." Electing Obama/Biden is helping ourselves. Sarah Palin is rooting for the Rapture to whisk her and her fellow Plastic Christians to Heaveningly World.”

“A good comment. I agree. Palin is the "Alaskan Candidate"!”

“Scary isn't it?”

“I said that same thing last year
but the neos won't actually do it
they will convince some Religious Fundamental Extremist to do it”

“Yeah, what's with that phony Wisconsin accent? Trying to come off as a Midwesterner I guess. After seeing this interview, I'm sure that all of our overseas allies just about crapped their pants at the thought of having Palin as VP. I mean it's bad enough with John (Dr. Strangelove) McCAin in charge buts what's really scary is that the odds are 1 in 3 that he won't survive his first term, given his age and medical history.
Yikes!!! I wonder if I can get a Visa for Switzerland real quick?”
