“One argument for the public option would be that it could help improve quality of care. Presumably, a public option will include members who now reside in the health care safety net. Without a public option we may lose the ability to track and intervene to resolve health disparities among our most challenging and disenfranchised populations. Something to think about, but I'm ready for someone to poke holes all over this notion.”

“I completely agree, well-said.

The argument against this, which is specious in my view, is that having the government decide will lead to rationing. Leaving out the fact that we already ration, the problem with letting doctors decide is that you get the current system. A quality-based healthcare system would be an incredible improvement.”
