Which is why the money people give the church should be taxed!”

“IF (and that's a big if) the man comes forward and admits to it, or IF the woman points the finger at him - either way there'd better be a man getting the SAME punishment for each woman who gets pregnant over there. Way to go, General - now you'll have TWO people who will be punished (and redeployed leaving their commrades in the lurch).

So how does this work for a woman who has actually been raped? Is the rapist going to own up?

Sory, AgathaX - nothing makes this OK.”

LuvzAmerica replied on Dec 20, 2009 at 22:45:43

“this is very controversial... I served over there, I would NEVER want to be pregnant in a combat zone...

I think it can be a serious liability... when you are pregnant, there are things you can't do like before...

I think the punishment is a too much.. but I do agree with sending the pregnant soldier home”

Very dissappointed in the Obama administration (and yes I voted for Obama and would again) for not pursuing them. “Not that I don't think Bush et al should be punished for out and out corruption/deception and war crimes in and of itself, but I think opening an investigation or two might sway some bipartisanship from the worthless republicans.

If we don't investigate them (and there's ample evidence) may someone from outside the country have the guts to do if for us. How many people have to die/be disabled/affected by these crimes before we put a value on human life?

And would a single republican or tea party member explain to me why they are so willing to spend trillions on these illegal wars, but won't spend a dime on the simple human dignity of and right to health care? And don't give me smaller government or government spending, because you didn't mind it happening under the Bush admin. Also don't give me that we need to "fight them there so they don't come here" because that's as lame as it sounds no matter who says it.”
Poor Women Turned Away From Free Cancer Screenings

Poor Women Turned Away From Free Cancer Screenings

Commented Dec 13, 2009 at 09:48:49 in Impact

“Oh wakeup804 you are so dead on the money there. I work in graduate medical education for Obstetrics and Gynecology at a military hospital, and am a breast cancer survivor.

If men had the babies, all birth control options would be on the table (and, yes, I am including abortion in that statement); in fact it's appalling to see women turned away by physicians and pharmacists for many of the birth control options; if those same physicians and pharmacists refused to dispense chemotherapy drugs instead of OCPs--can you imagine!? How many people realize that health insurance policies cover viagra but many do not cover standard birth control pills? Can anyone really name any other area that has this sort of inequity? And this is only one small area of inequity.

It is beyond time for Americans to wake up and get behind health care for all. No one, male or female, should have to live through the horror of having to decide between health care (and with cancer it's fair to say death) or their bank account. I know that statement is extreme, but that's what we're really talking about. My husband is retired Air Force, and I have lived and received health care overseas in countries that do have national health care, and it's amazing!”

wakeup804 replied on Dec 13, 2009 at 12:18:11

“It is unbelievable. Having worked in healthcare for 20 years, I have had people come into an office from another country who got sick while here, all you have to do is call the number on the back of their insurance card, always with an approval to treat, and they get care. The next person to come in is an American with no healthcare, and unless they pony up a couple of hundred dollars to see the doctor, they get sent on their way, sick and all. What is wrong with that picture??

Usually we have no choice as to how our tax dollars are spent, I would have no issue with paying a health tax if it meant that every American could see a doctor and get medical care when it was needed. That would probably be the first time in my life I would feel my tax dollars were being well spent.

The lawmakes that are against this are just insuring more money for the insurance companies, you don't make much money in prevention, but you do make money with costly treatments on the back end.

To all the lawmakers who see their doctor's' on THE PUBLIC OPTION (aka our tax dollars) if it is so bad, take a real stand and give up your coverage. Maybe then could I begin to believe your BS. This sounds alot like do as I say, not as I do, huh?”

“I see that many of you find this laughable, but I am very worried about the Sarah Palin phenomenon. It is not at all inconceivable that she could run in 2012--and win! She's been swamped at all these book signings and just the fact that she draws such crowds is just plan unbelievable. Barack Obama himself stepped into the national spotlight not that many years ago and look where he is (thank God!) -- why is it so unconceivable that Palin could get the nomination--and win?! My husband and I have worked for the US Air Force for 38 years (and counting); I feel it's my life's work and would not change a single thing about our service. But I have to say when I listen to the Palins, Limbaughs, Becks, Coulters, et al, if I had the money I would leave this country. Where would I go? Don't know, obviously there are problems everywhere but probably back to the country my ancestors came from (Ireland); still have family there and have loved it when I've been there.

I am a patriot, as I'm sure all of you are, but I'm honestly frightened about the direction this country is going. And Sarah Palin is most certainly not the right direction...”

“Fewer than thirty percent of Americans feel she is qualified to be president. She has done, and is doing, nothing to increase that number. The book is long on finger-pointing and very short on policy. Her answers to specific questions, even from softball interviewers, are absurd: Ahmadinebad is head of Iraq? Israel needs to build more settlements on Palestinian land because . . . Jews are coming to Israel every week. Pathetic.”

“Just amazing. Story after story about these so-called Christians. I'm talking Catholic priests as well as evangelical ministers, and Mormon fundamentalists. If it's not sex on young girls, it's sex on young boys on a horrific scale. I may still have my personal beliefs, but all these church scandals are just frightening and I'm not sure I'd trust any religious leader (except for maybe the delightful Irish nuns who taught me as a child).”

“I'm not a believer in the death penalty.

I will never forget a piece on NPR when Timothy McVeigh was executed. After he was executed, they interviewed family members. One after another spoke in subdued manner about how they still didn't feel relieved in any way that he was dead. I live in a state, Texas, where they put people to death simply because they can, and the review process (especially during the Bush and Perry years as governor) has been less than thorough.

For all you who troll these comments and who are for smaller government - how can you tolerate the biggest imposition of all: taking a life?”
