“When a girl reaches adolescence, she looks to her father for affirmation as a young woman. It is safe and healthy. Girls without fathers do not get this affirmation and tend to be more promiscuous, looking elsewhere. Adolescent boys are often closer to their mothers for the same reason. I think it has little to do with gender roles.”

This is, of course, a generalization on your part? It must be because as a woman who grew up without a father, I was the farthest thing from being promiscuous as one could possibly get. In such cases, where a girl grows up without a father, her affirmation as a young woman during adolescence can come from having a strong and supportive family, as I did with my mom and brother. If a young woman is given values and, most importantly, is taught to value herself, her affirmation comes from within.”
