“You're right. I was making a generalization and I'm glad you grew up without problems in spite of an absent father. The opposite is quite common.”

“What I've read is that in many cases of teenage prostitution, the young woman is running away from sexual abuse by her father at home. Sexual activity is something she learned growing up, so she then earns a living by performing sexual services.”

“When a girl reaches adolescence, she looks to her father for affirmation as a young woman. It is safe and healthy. Girls without fathers do not get this affirmation and tend to be more promiscuous, looking elsewhere. Adolescent boys are often closer to their mothers for the same reason. I think it has little to do with gender roles.”

“"Girls without fathers do not get this affirmation and tend to be more promiscuous, looking elsewhere."
This is, of course, a generalization on your part? It must be because as a woman who grew up without a father, I was the farthest thing from being promiscuous as one could possibly get. In such cases, where a girl grows up without a father, her affirmation as a young woman during adolescence can come from having a strong and supportive family, as I did with my mom and brother. If a young woman is given values and, most importantly, is taught to value herself, her affirmation comes from within.”

“The reason we have a difficult time explaining death to children is because we, as a culture, have a difficult time acknowledging that it is a part of life for us all. We celebrate youth and forget the wisdom of the aged and ages.”

“I wish these discussions would make the distinction between health care and health insurance. There is a big difference. My health insurance does not pay my health costs. I pay them many times the cost of my health care per month. I would pay my small doctor bills out of pocket, but I am 58 years old and I have a family history of heart disease and cancer. It is an insurance policy....NOT health care.”
