New DNC Obama Ad: Get "Fired Up" and "Ready To Go" About No Public Option

Commented Sep 19, 2009 at 11:05:35 in Politics

“WTF?! How has the Presdient been trying to ditch the Public option for weeks just this passed Thursday he was talking about how the public option plays an important role in a bill he would sign at a rally, said as much at the congressional speech.
I swear Progressives have theier heads stuck so far up thier own ideological rear ends that they miss what is going on in reality. They are the same if not worse than those on the right and thier lies by feeding this false assumption that there is no public option in the helath care plan. I have yet to hear anything from the white house or the president saying that this was a good bill he would go with...”

DannyRose replied on Sep 19, 2009 at 12:26:21

“Let me clear this up for you: Progressives staunchly support a public option. Repugs staunchly oppose it.

Please explain how that makes Progressives "the same if not worse" than the Repugs?”

DannyRose replied on Sep 19, 2009 at 12:11:43

“Um, did you happen to watch the video clip?”

arktig replied on Sep 19, 2009 at 12:10:46

“Go read the White House opinion on health care reform. It's the Baucus bill point by point. they taklk about a unfunded public option which is a bankrupt on arrival proposition. Obama reiterated the same in his speech. There is no REAL public option in any of the popular bills in Congress. If someones head is not where it belongs, it's yours.”

Nakona replied on Sep 19, 2009 at 12:09:43

“The President saying " he feels that there should be a public option", and then letting congress write the bill, which did not include a public option - are 2 different things.

Consider that during the break, he stated that the reforms did not necessarily require a public option of other ideas would achieve the same purpose (which they don't). But the tone of that rhetoric set the stage for a watered down option/no option.

Also consider that the administration set the agenda at DEAD CENTER, and let the debate occur right of center. It is no wonder the Repubs swung out into crazy land, as many ideas in the plan were originally theirs (co-opts, tax credits), so they created more room or it appears they all agree on the same thing (which they do in reality), but must keep some disparity in public.”

“I think something that is also being missed or was missed in this conversation is that we live in a cultur today that is focused on quick fixes and instant gratification. Hence the reason many on the left are bent out of shape that we are still at war, even after the president has made it clear as to when he would like to see us leave, upset that jobs hadn't been created in less than a year, DADT and DOMA hasn't been repealed, you name it...forgetting that things need to filter through congress and the senate to be debated and voted on which is how WA is suppose to work and something the Obama said he wanted to do during the campaign and as President. As as if those on the right and the left want a semi dictatorship when thier politician is in office but will brow beat the other party for doing such.”

Congress has a much lower aproval rating than the president because congress isn't working well and people are tired of the disfunction. We all too often watch tv and see oceans of crazy americans. i think the sane ones still have an advantage of numbers. I really think congress' approval is so low because of the obstruction, plain and simple not much is getting through.”

“Absolutely agree. The president is being villified for expecting Congress to do its job. If only the marchers had protested their Senators and Congresspeople as well. Their signs were mostly anti-government or anti-Obama, yet they are so quick to believe what their own representatives tell them- or worse, what people on cable or radio tell them.

Instead of being lazy and mindless by doing their own homework, they are too willing to believe the worst.”

“FANNED.

This is exactly right. Why are people enraged that there are no magical fairies that can undo 8 years of corruption and greed in nine months? There seems to be no self-reflection anymore for many of us. It's not about policy anymore, but about who's "Team" wins -- as if life is exactly like NASCAR.

I do see MUCH less of this on the left, though. Democrats tend to be more conciliatory, because they are willing to hold the idea in their head that they could be wrong!”

“I think there is a common misconception fro those on the right and very much on the left who think that somehow or another the President is niave or being to soft. In the campaign and as President, Obama has said that he wanted to change the way WA works for decasdes since regan WA has been a place of divsive politics, who ever was president ruled the roost there was no attempt made realy to get other opinions in or for that matter to work with congress...so congress becoam ineffactive. President Obama comes into office and for the first time in decades makes congress do what they are suppose to do and members of congress have no idea how to do that hence the reason Weiner, Frank and other have come out whining about the President Obama not doing enough...what is he suppose to do when he has put you (members of congress) in charge of getting health care done with his stipulations?
No one knows what is going on behinde the seens to rightly say the president is niave. He has been in politics since 89' I'm sure he is fully aware of what to expect from republicans and just because he would like to have them at the table doesn't mean that they are running the show. A secret about the hill... what people say in public often isn't what they are saying behinde closed doors”

“This article amd many others are the bane of the Democratic, progressive, liberal movement. They are just has hyperbolic and ideoligical as those on the right and far right. It's my way, how I want it when I want it and it's unfortunate that Libs, progressives and some Dems to great pride in sowing doubt and discouragement within thier own. I'm all for constructive critisim when it is logical an needed. But this is exactly why I'm independent. There is a much...much bigger picture and Libs are suffering tunnel vision. They only see what they want when they want how they want udging by the comments I could hardly stomach. So intent on looking for falut that they will follow and believe right wing shills no realizing they are being had. for example the Drudge report ran some random sotry from some random anonymous source that the President no longer want the Public option, the story was then linked to the Politico sight and promptly posted here on HuffPo which started an explosion of left wing hate.

When the truth of a situation is revealed, when the consequences of actions are correctly predicted, when the real motivations are laid bare, people do not want to see the truth of a situation. Ire is not hate. Diapproval is not hate. Condemnation of corruption is not hate. Disgust at politics as usual is not hate. This administration has proven itself to be so much less than it could be, and certainly so much less than it promised. And as time goes by, it will become less of a representation of the publics voice, and more of an enabler of the status quo. It, like the banks, is bankrupt. Unlike the banks, its bankruptcy is moral. And, I might add, I speak these words as a life long Democrat. No more...”

“We just went thru eight years a failure and you thought that President Obama was going to come in and within months all of that was going to get cleaned up? It would take G_d coming down to earth to make that happen. And what your asking for the President would have to side step congress and make up his own laws, effectivly making him a dictator.
You are simply not paying much attention. The President would love to close Gitmo he even signed an executive order to close it. However it takes money to close gitmo and congress denied him money to cloes gimot so for now it stays open. One a number of occasions the pesident has said that we no longer torture and htose who do will be prosecuted, currebntly there are several soldiers being investigated.
During the campaignthe president never called for an immidiate withdrawl from Iraq or Aphganistan he did say that he wanted us out of there by 2011. He gave specific goals and reasons on feb to our troops at LeJune army base and he plans on giving more updates, goals and vision on 9/24.
as far as health care the President was never for Single payer unless we were starting from scratch, we are not. And as far as the economy I guess you missed the tax cut he gave us and the additional credits come tax season.”

Last I checked he held a confrence where he said thathe was resigning, not because he was told to but by his own choice. Why is that so hard to understand for libs and progressives and what was the President suppose to do hold a press confrence to talk about this issue instead of health care, Aphganistan[sic], the economy...
