Kim Kardashian, Snoop Dogg Get Paid HOW Much To Tweet?

Commented Jan 29, 2012 at 19:36:28 in Celebrity

“When anyone has millions of followers a tweet means pretty high exposure. Payment and product depends on demographics (or likely demos) of those followers. Lindsey Lohan tweets brands for no apparent reason. Why does one think that celebs are always looking for more followers? Another reason why social media wants to know more about their members.”

WNBA's Maya Moore Speaks about Pay, Labor and Going Pro (EXCLUSIVE)

Commented May 18, 2011 at 15:04:23 in Sports

“Maya, thanks for raising this issue - labor vs. capital - an old one indeed! Pro sports are actually part of the entertainment business where the "union" is really more of a "guild" (like SAG) than a labor union since each player (actor, etc.) is an independent contractor not a direct employee. But in pro sports, the players ARE the business, even more so than movies, TV or other forms of entertainment. The owners' main assets are the value of the their franchises (a brand) and the players under contract. I don't pretend to understand the pro sports business, but the real bottom line of team sports is the value of the FRANCHISE. The NY Yankees, the Boston Celtics, Manchester United, the LA Lakers, the Green Bay Packers all have values attached to their brands that is estimated to be the market value of that particular team. Winning is the primary factor within a given sport, but the popularity of the sport, the location (New York is going to be more valuable than, say, Memphis), the value of a hard asset (like a stadium if owned by the team principal) are all included. But the players, in the end, are the most important to winning! If you were a tennis player, you would be the owner and if successful, reap the benefits. For women athletes, tennis is probably the best sport, if you're successful. I'm out of words ...”

Pia Toscano Eliminated In American Idol Shocker (VIDEO)

Commented Apr 8, 2011 at 11:23:51 in Entertainment

“I commented today under the "Pia Soars" post from yesterday's Huff Post entertainment section because I simply thought that the headline and the post were ironic in the extreme. I can add one thing to that comment: the judges' consistent gushing love for every performer and every performance leaves the few undecided voters without much to go on. Plus their occasional mild and "instructive" criticism - like "Pia should do more than ballads" or she should "move on stage more" can be taken much more seriously than it is meant. This is a new element, since Simon's critiques were never vague and actually offered both instruction to the contestants and guidance to the viewer/voter when evaluating the individual for voting purposes. Losing an artist like Pia is tragic. I, for one, will stop watching the show but I'll still look for the results out of curiosity. I have no candidate in this election anymore.”

'American Idol' Rock 'N' Roll Hall Of Fame Night: Pia Toscano Soars

'American Idol' Rock 'N' Roll Hall Of Fame Night: Pia Toscano Soars

Commented Apr 8, 2011 at 11:05:06 in Entertainment

“Less than a day after the headline " .... PIA SOARS" appears above a very positive article in Huff Post, complimenting Pia Toscano for her outstanding, goosebumps-raising performance of Tina Turner's "River Deep, Mountain High" on American Idol, the clear Idol front-runner was eliminated from the show as this sensational performance was actually rated the worst of the night by viewers who voted for their favorite performance of the evening. The obvious disconnect between what most of the audience and the "judges" heard and saw and what the voting public considers good and not good probably had nothing to do with talent, song choice or the fabulous voice of the gorgeous Ms. Toscano. The reduction of the Idol field from 9 to 8 contestants, a less-talented group of 6 males and 2 females, had more to do with the demographics of the viewers and voters than it did the performances or talent of the contestants or the loving opinions of the judges. The fast-fingered tweens (pre and early teenage girls) rule the 5 or 6 hours of voting (at least in the EDT zone). Their zealous dedication to certain young males along with the indifference of males and slightly older, more serious viewers to voting for apparent sure winners (like Pia) can and evidently does lead to shocking, counter-intuitive results like those of last night. If this is correct, the remaining females have no chance.”

brooklyncitizen on Apr 8, 2011 at 21:33:23

“They have no chance since they are not the strongest contenders
Pia and Thia were the top of the heap
Haley is interesting but a "good girl" in that she doesn't know who she is as a performer and just wants to be liked

“I assume you're referring to the governor of Florida, or maybe some Wall Street types - Quote from Robert Reich (paraphrased) - " .... last year (2010) 13 hedge fund managers had income of OVER $1 billion EACH. Combined, their incomes would have paid the salaries of 5 million teachers ...". The drug laws are a very bad joke too - I guess that a judge and jury felt that Ms. Spottedcrow was a real danger to society. I wonder what incentive the informant had? This, along with many other politically motivated laws on the books all over the US aimed at victimless crimes should be eliminated and those imprisoned as a result, released.”

“Pot is no problem but the striking similarity between "Born This Way" and Madonna's "Express Yourself" could be a bigger one - if Madonna wants to pursue it. The songs (music) are almost identical. Derivative? Ga Ga does seem a little too much like Madonna, but this may have gone too far.”

DCinFrance on Feb 15, 2011 at 00:42:22

“Yeah, at first I thought she was trying to do some sort of cover of Express Yourself. Just shy of about a minute in, I said 'you're kidding'. I mean, it's fine to have influences--in fact, it's unavoidable actually. You can always hear in someone's work someone else's. However, the melody line of the refrain is a near steal. Not enough to sue her over...but it would be interesting to see who had the deeper pocket.”

“Sen. Lee, of course, is a wingnut, believing that somehow the clock could be turned back about 120 years (pre Teddy Roosevelt), at least, or maybe 160 years (pre Civil War). But he might be right about the Constitution. This document is really outdated and should be altered in many ways to allow for the differences between the late 18th Century and the early 21st Century. I think the question he raises is whether the United States of America is a viable entity in this century. This and the Republican attempt to eliminate even the minimum health care for many Americans and the ridiculous budget cuts they proposed show that there is a clear agenda to further separate the "haves" from the "have nots" and to consolidate the power of the wealthiest Americans (including much of corporate America). Next election, when the rest of the voters turn out, things may be a lot different.”

OR ... they could just payout some very big bonuses for management and, if anything is left, increase dividends while the reduced tax rate on dividends is still in effect. I guess we should be looking to those executives for some charity ... or is it patronage? We're becoming serf's to the Lords of Finance. The rulers of the kingdom of finance will soon be handing out titles .. a good one could be "Duke of Derivatives" in a fiefdom carved out from the wreckage of home ownership in this country. If I rob a bank, I go to jail (actually Federal prison), if the bank robs me, management gets a bonus. OK, enough ... it would be funny if it weren't so painful.”

“Is that all he has left? Wow! John D was once the world's richest man. The financial market disaster must've been even worse than thought. Rockefeller was a word that simply meant wealth! So, is it better to be "independently wealthy" or to owe one's election to big-time donors with an agenda that often conflicts with that of the general electorate? Jay Rockefeller and Jane Harman, I believe, have worked for what they perceive as the public's best interest. BTW, Sidney Harman has acquired "Newsweek", perhaps to leave his mark in the media world or maybe to provide a little counter weight to Fox News. Jane will stay independent from this, although she may get quoted more in "Newsweek".”

Second, you would be welcomed back into the "business" even if was only in a certain genre only (I mean gg) or to direct, etc. I would guess that you also just might be able to act in "mainstream" media (see SG on Entourage). The crossover looks a lot more possible these days. Saw you on "Rehab", so I understand that there is a deeper issue, but even as a waitress you would no doubt run into someone who would recognize you. Name change won't protect you from fans who know you as PF. You should not hide from past work, you are forever beautiful and always seemed to be having fun (maybe stoned, but fun anyway). “This little video simply gives further credence to the theory that LiLo is an outstanding "performance artist" in the uncategorized entertainment genre of "celebrity". She does seem to be a very good model, but her ability to attract attention and have her "performances" consistently recorded and published is almost unmatched. Someone (probably LiLo) will have to put together a carefully edited and formatted collection of her performances over a two or three year period to at least begin to form an "exhibit" that will give us a clue about how to approach her art. Since this is art crafted in (or from) a new medium, it may take some time to properly evaluate. I tend to believe that, although the traditional media - newspapers, TV and magazines - still form the basic palette for LiLo's performance, it has been the Internet that has pulled it together. Bouquets again to LiLo!”

The Innovation Delusion

Commented Mar 2, 2010 at 00:14:33 in Business

“Excellent article! Although innovation is clearly important, it does not produce added value to the eventual user until the innovation is executed. A lot of the "innovation" lately has been the invention of financial instruments that could be traded and, in turn, create profit through speculation rather than adding value. We are seeing the results of that approach. The medical industry (misnamed as "health care") has innovated with new drugs, technology and services that can keep the diseased, injured and ill alive and improve their ability to continue to live, but has no incentive to create a healthier society, the profits are too good from a sick one. The manufacturing sector, making consumer and commercial durable goods has reduced risk and increased profit by avoiding capital investment in manufacturing, preferring to send new products to Asia and elsewhere and let those manufacturers (some subsidized) make the investment in capital goods required to build innovative products. Even where labor is not an issue, overhead is lower in spite of the lack of investment in capital goods here. The beneficiaries in this country are those atop the economic pyramid who realize the bulk of the profits generated by these actions. They have no incentive to think long term or consider consequences for the people in general. Somehow this trend must stop or be reversed or the US is headed for third world status and outcomes that no one can foresee in 20, 50 or 100 years in the future.”

jcaunter on Mar 2, 2010 at 06:55:41

“You are absolutely right in your analysis. But I have been saying the same thing for weeks and almost no one understands or cares.

This latest "recession" isn't a recession at all, but an abrupt and permanent drop in the living standards of Americans... living standards that will continue to drop until we are, as you say, a third world country. But the sad fact is that things are going to have to get a whole lot worse before people will tear themselves away from reality tv long enough to take a stand and fight for their economic future.”
