“Then you didn't listen during his campaign. It's better to listen to what the candidate actually says instead of making up what you want to hear.”

“Exactly. I supported Obama and voted for him precisely because I listened to what he said. The hand wringing and finger wagging now prevelent in certain sectors of the left is amusing. For me, the amazing thing is that Obama does in fact seem to be doing what he said he'd do while campaigning.
Staying or leaving are both fraught with risk but I think leaving, in the long term, has more risk than staying to attempt to stabilize Shrub's mess. Lost, I think, in the argument that Al Qaida has gone elsewhere is the probability that if we leave and the Taliban take over, AQ will move back into an area where they'd have as much free rein as they did prior to the invasion 8 years ago.
It doesn't take much of a leap to envision the influence of Islamic militants at the highest levels of Pakistani govenerment increasing and even becoming dominant without US pressure on Taliban next door in Afghanistan. Pakistan is a nuclear armed and can deliver warheads anywhere in the Middle East. With a Taliban government (or one heavily influenced by them), it's not hard to imagine that the controls on these weapons could be compromised. To me, that is the rub.
Continuing the war in Afghanistan is risky and will cost in blood and treasure no matter the outcome. I believe the cost of leaving will be higher. Obama, I think, has taken this to heart in the decisions he has made.”

His war policy is just plain wrong. Fighting terrorism with conventional military forces is a disastrous blunder. What difference does it make what he said during the campaign?”

“That giant sucking sound was hundreds of billions disappearing into the desert sands.... billions and billions literally going missing. All brought to you by your Republican masters. I talked to a contractor who worked in Iraq. He said the free-for-all grab for government money was astounding. The wild west with people fighting over how much they could steal from the US government, while Congressional oversight during Bush's reign was nonexistent. They looted us... that's you and me. And you're worried about Democrats.”

I know your image makes for great visuals... like talking about welfare queens and such.... but the truth is the regular 'ol middle class folk who pretty much work to get by, are in worse shape now than they were. They haven't participated in recoveries for years now. Their wages have been eroding while the bulk of the recoveries have gone straight to those at the top.”

Bush started the Afghan war and let it languish for several years while he focused his attention elsewhere. To call it a failed war at this point is to call it Bush's failed war, along with Iraq.
We shall see if Obama will have a failed war to his name in the end. We are not there yet.”

“No, he never promised to get out of Afghanistan when he became president. Here, from July 2008:
"The Afghan government needs to do more. But we have to understand that the situation is precarious and urgent here in Afghanistan. And I believe this has to be our central focus, the central front, on our battle against t.e.r.r.o. r.i.s.m," Obama said Sunday on CBS' "Face the Nation."
"I think one of the biggest mistakes we've made strategically after 9/11 was to fail to finish the job here, focus our attention here. We got distracted by Iraq," he said.”

“Does no one remember that Obama wanted to continue the war in Afghanistan in order to "get the job done"? I clearly remember this, and thought I didn't like it, I voted for him anyway. Believing that he was going to withdraw from there and this was a promise of his, is a result of your own wishful thinking.

That very quote is what made everyone, who is claiming that the president has not kept his promise, argument disingenuous at best.
These loosely played comments does nothing to help the progressive agenda. I am afraid the anti-war wing is helping to dismantle it at the expense of everything and everyone else.”
