13 Attorneys General Threaten Lawsuit Over Health Care Reform

“ok...let me get this straight: the topic here is healthcarte-right?
Healthcare is NOT listed as one of the few & limited powers of the federal govt--but providing for the common defense is.
So--it seems logical to you that states OPPOSED to the power of the government to legislate healthcare [not in the Constitution] should be "penalized" by having military bases deemed necesary for our defense [mandated by the constitution] if they decide upon a strategy to challenge this NEW "power"???”

“Section 8 - Powers of Congress.
"The Congress shall have Power To lay and collect Taxes, Duties, Imposts and Excises, to
pay the Debts and provide for the common Defence and general Welfare of the United
States"
Why does everyone forget the phrase that follows "provide for the common defense" here and in the preamble is "PROMOTE THE GENERAL WELFARE"?
Welfare is defined as "Health, happiness, and good fortune; well-being"
There it is, in black and white.”

“Funny you should say that. What's good for Nebraska.. ..
In political science, Nebraska is an anomaly. If there are two different ways to approach a problem, NB chooses some other option. For example, some states have full-time, professional legislatures and some have part-time citizen legislatures. Nebraska has both, in a way.
I imagine Nebraskans would be pleased to hear someone say, what's good for Nebraska should be good for the rest of us.”

“waht about marine invertebrates?? What about Atlantic tomcod being extirpated from the Hudson River? Tomcod are a key prey item for striped bass--if they are no longer able to survive calefaction of the Hudson, their southernmost spawning population will be GONE!! ...and thence could pass the Hudson River population of striped bass!!! We need to consider:
1-shutdown of ALL electric generating stations south of albany NY that produce a thermal effluent; and
2-we should look at importing icebergs from Canada, towing them up the Hudson..an d letting them flow freely after release at Kingston, NY.
ONLY these dramatic efforts CAN SAVE the Atlantic Tomcod, a key prey item of young striped Bass, in the lower Hudson River!!!

“raising humans for animal consumption doesnt make economic sense!! However, if we extend some of the ideas of population analysts who believe we need to severely cut back the human population [earlier this week wasnt there a Canadian newspaper editorial urging 1 child per family--even tho the author of the editorial has 2 kids??].
Rather than RAISING people to feed to animals, why not just "cull the herd"? Those who believe we should be restricted to 1 child, should, if they have more than one child, set an example and cull their weakest offspring from their family. Zoos would probably appreciate the extra meat; it can used to chum for sharks; or, better yet, it could be used a bait to trap rats and other vermin! There is no need to raise people for this purpose--just use the extras we already have---we can even coin the term "LATEST stage abortion" so we will all b comfortable with the concept.”

“barack should revisit some of his older speeches!! we MUST show the World we are SINCERE and uniulaterally disarm [nukes that is]...and let the Afghans and Iraqis take care of them selves. I know we gave the south vietnamese the chance to secure their own freedom and they were incabable of it--but perhaps in iraq and afghanistan there is more of a will to sit down with al-qaeda, the taleban, and the iranians and PEACEFULLY reach an agreement. Obviously, we do not want reeducation camps, slaughters, boat people and "killing fields"--but these asian repsonses are an aberrqation. I have much more confidence that if we pulled out ASAP that peaceful accomodations could be reached.
Then we can cut off aid to israel if they refuse to denounce nukes and cut back their military adventures. Pres Obama should then meet--without preconditions--both Ahmadenajhad & PM Putin and discuss deescalating our tensions with them. We could ease life with Iran if we removed all tropps & warships from the Gulf; putin would meet us halfway if we told Georgia where to go & eliminated our nuclear threat.
Peace is at hand!! the President just needs to match his actions with his rhetoric--and he can truely earn HIMSELF a 2nd Nobel Peace Priuze [and who else has ever won 2 of them?].”

“The number of "scientists" [and their credentials are????] who sign on to a petition is meaningless--most of us have NEVER analyzed cliamte data on our own so that we could arrive at our own, independent conclusion. The only thing that matters are:
1- the RAW data;

3-the VARIABLES included in ANY model;
4-the ASSUMPTIONS of any given model.
IF these data are questionable there is a problem; IF the assumptions are questionable you have a problem [a statistician I once worked with was not inclined to be a witness before the EPA because he KNEW the assumptions of a "life cyle" model for a particular fish was bogus!!
