“in other words, we have no examples of moral marxism to compare any other economic system to?

Now, as an aside, I had suggested with respect to healthcare, that conduct a 5-yr experiment. Pass a health care bill--and then, for 5 years, apply it ONLY to Federal employees, elected and appointed Federal officials [all of them]--anyone leaving these categories or entering these categories anytime during the 5 year period would still be part of the experiment. Then we would a good database upon which we could evaluate whatever healthcare bill is passed--and then, based upon an assessment, make corrections.

Maybe we could do a similar 5-yr experiment [or better yet a 10 yr expt!!] of whatever moral marxism is--using the same population. Then we could see how it works!”

“I will repost my answer to you from below;

There has never been Socialism or Communism in any modern nation. The former Eastern bloc were authoritarian dictatorships that practiced state capitalism. The means of production were certainly not in the hands of the workers. The closest we've come to Communism was in Anarchist Spain in the 1930s. It comes as no surprise that the Soviet Union was anxious to sabotage that experiment and actively pursued policies to destroy the Anarchists in Catalonia, lest their success undermine Soviet power in the U.S.S.R.”

Taking the Movement Out of the Obama White House

Commented Sep 07, 2009 at 10:21:27 in Politics

“I believe some of the early reasons he was "targetted" was his documented
1- interest in changing us from a capitalist society to one in which wealth is to be "redistributed"
2-his obvious RACIST beliefs (so I guess if we are INTOLERANT of RACISTS having the Prez' ear, that makes us RACISTS as well? Seems to be the logic!)
3-his linkage with organizations some deem inimical to American interests
4-and finally, his criminal record.

The 9/11 crap only showed up a week or so ago.

Obviously Mr. Jones is entitled to HIS beliefs--including his racist ones. However, there are many people who question the wisdom of someone with his background and ideas---oh....oh....and let's not forget skin pigmentation [after all EVERY critic of this Administration is a racist!!!]...being anywhere in this administration.

Now, if the p really wants Jones there, he can tell his critics to shove it and stand on principle by his man. After all, isnt personnel power ? [jones is reported to have said something like that--and since both barry & he on on record supporting wealth redistribution then he was chosen for a reason] Jones & barry are certainly entitled to their beliefs and to try and effect the change they think he was elected to implement. however, Jones' "resignation" is further evidence of little moral courage our current, temporary, WH occupant has.”

HankDennemann replied on Sep 07, 2009 at 11:10:20

“Excellent points, although I don't think that the resignation is evidence of Obama's lack of moral courage. If anything, it shows just the opposite. Jones is a lunatic, and progressives who can't understand why an open communist isn't an acceptable addition to the WH even in this day and age are more out of touch than they realize. Obama's willingness to push him out represented to me, at least, that the administration understands just how distasteful Jones' presence would be to his constituents.”

mgsorens replied on Sep 07, 2009 at 11:09:33

“Yes. The very same things that make Van Jones appealing to David Sirota are the things that Conservatives object to. Jones is not a secret liberal or secret socialist or a secret leader of the Progressive Movement. He is proud of those beliefs.
Obama's spokesman has said that Obama does not agree with Jones political theories.

It does appear that Jones is not proud that he signed the "truther" petition, but he has been proud to make baseless accusations about conspiracies by white people to dump pollution in black an minority communities.

It is amazing to me that Obama claims to disagree with so many of his ex-associates, who seem to agree among themselves about damn near everything. From my ignorant point of view, it seems to me that Jones, Rev. Wright, Ayers, Dohrn, etc. are all part of the "same movement."”

“Why not actually DO an experiment on the pluses/minuses of whatever healthcare bill gets passed. Given the high costs entailed with a foul-up, and the lack of experience most of our reps have with health-care [except as a patient] I propose:
1- by 2011 have ALL Federal employees and ALL elected/appointed government officials "enrolled" in the plan they designed;
2- keep them in it for 5 years [if youleave federal employment, get voted out or choose to not run, you stay in the plan until the study is over; newly elected reps & newly hired employees get the current health plan]
3-in 2017/2018 complete a review of the good/bad aspects of the program
4- let our reps then decide if their old plan was better or worse than the plan they crafted for us
5- make modifications as necessary
5-implement the national program in 2020 rather than 2013.

This 5 year evaluation would cost less, give us a study vpopulation that includes all who will be voting on it”

Imago replied on Aug 07, 2009 at 15:15:29

“Lovely idea.

Except for the people in this country who will lose everything between now and 2020 because their medical bills have destroyed them. Or the people who've died because they couldn't seek treatment. And so on. Insurance bills are exploding and people can't keep up -- we are in crisis about this now.

While I do understand your point, the thing is that this system does not need to get designed in a vacuum -- there are variations on better health care systems all over the world.

According to the last ranking by the World Health Organization in 2000, the US came in 37th in national health care systems. Nine years ago, there were 36 countries do it better than we do. That's a lot of models to look at!”

Another plus is that President Obama has already had some, albein informal, contacts with Iran's President. Ive written several times on this sites: President Obama needs to one-up Nixon & go to Teheran!!! He needs to also give a speech to the Iranian people with the old US Embassy in the background!!! THis will go far to rei9nforce Obama's palce as the leader of the free world, earse the memories of carter's 'desert 1"--and provide photos that will help us in both the 2010 & 2012 elections (plus, by going himself--and leaving hilly home, he further marginalizes the clintons!].

Let Women Wear the Hijab: The Emptiness of Obama's Cairo Speech

“ACTIONS are always going to speak louder than words--no matter how well they are delivered. We'll just have to see what the President accompluishes over the next 4 or 8 years. How many more Muslims or even just Arabs or Persians--be free of being ruled by despots? How many more women will hold responsible positions in government? How many of these countries will be removed from the lists of human rights abusers? How will the Palestinians establish a viable state without real aid [NOT weapons] from other Muslim states? How few rockets will be used as terror weapons against Israel?

I 'm sure others have different metrics that could be used, but it would be interesting to see graphs of trhese data, some by country, say, since the 1972 Munich massacre.

Kuwait and Iraq both have women in their parliaments. Which Muslim country will be the next to elect women under this administration?

Which Muslim nation will be next to be freed of the shackles of mullahs, hereditary rulers, or rulers "elected" by questionable means under the nudging of this Administration?

Anyone care to make some guesses???”

“This is…the war of the future. This is going to be a long-term battle against terrorists who have declared war on the US. That is what Osama bin Laden did. He basically made clear that all Americans… were potential targets, and he used the word 'war.'"

“In this struggle, our adversaries are likely to avoid traditional battlefield situations because there, American dominance is well established. We must be concerned, instead, by weapons of mass destruction…sabotage and hidden bombs….We must understand that this confrontation is long term. It does not lend itself to quick victories. In my line of work, environmental measuring devices for variables such as salinity, DO & ph are CALIBRATED before they go in the field...and then RECALIBRATED upon return (in case, for example, there is "drift").

How much confidence do you have that measurements preceding sentient primates (1,500,000 yrs ago) were properly calibrated?? Who manufactured these instruments?? YSI? Hydrolab? How well trained were these 1.5 million year old technicians???

If we are relying on measurements from ice, or other physical particles--YOU NEED TO ESTIMATE A CONFIDENCE LIMIT!!!! These CLs are NEVER REPORTED!!!!

For example: if I weighed 3 people and their weights were 2 lbs, 35 lbs, & 375 lbs the mean is 138 lbs--but 95% of the time the mean can range anywhere between
-375 lbs & +650 lbs!!! These numbers aRE MEANINGLESS!!!

Of course if you believe that mathematical models can predict "long-term" climate change based upon very little [in geological time] REAL data--and NO PRESENTATIONS OF CONFIDENCE LIMITS--more power to you. We cannot even predict daily maximum temperatures very well 2-4 days in advance!!! Why should we be able to ACCURATELY PREDICT over hundreds of years?? How well does YOUR preferred model HINDCAST (and, again, what are the CLs???)
.
Does anyone remember the furor after The Lancet published Roberts et. at. (2004) "Mortality before and after the 2003 invasion of Iraq: cluster sample survey"? Did anyone of you ACTUALLY READ IT??

The media headlines were to the effect that [at that time] almost 200,000 people died from our invasion. IN FACT, THE AUTHORS WROTE, " We estimate that 98000 more deaths than expected (8000-194000) happened after the invasion outside of Falluja and far more if the outlier Falluja cluster is included". That means IT WAS JUST AS LIKELEY THERE WERE ONLY 8000 "EXCESS DEATHS" AS THERE WERE ~200,000!!!!

So...what do you think the actual range of a "global warming" temperature increase looks like 95% of the time?? The range on the deaths estimate was 24 fold!!! That means the ESTIMATED MEAN IS USELESS!!”
