“And you are aware that as *both* were being established that the Republicans were going out of their minds and screaming about "Socialism" and "the ruin of this great country", right? The more things change the more things stay the same. A generation from now, everyone at the tea bag parties is going to be enjoying their "socialized" health care benefits as if there was never a struggle... Just like with Social Security and Medicare.”

“I just wish the people taking her seriously as a politician would realize she's just another show biz fraud. She has created a fictional character to bring in piles of cash, plain and simple.”

“Unfortunately, they don't seem to care that they are the financial supporters of a lie, mostly because they think it is really all about getting back at those who support President Obama. There is a family on the Dr. Phil show each Monday that he seems to have bee n counseling for the past 3 years. (How's that working out?) It struck me today how the oldest daughter's behavior mirrors that of Palin: blaming excuses, lying, emotion when needed.”

Anger As 'GMA' Books Chris Brown After Canceling Adam Lambert

Anger As 'GMA' Books Chris Brown After Canceling Adam Lambert

Commented Nov 26, 2009 at 09:34:01 in Entertainment

“I think the key difference, unfortunately, is that this is Chris Brown's "apology" tour while Adam Lambert was fresh off of the "outrage" and had/has done no back-pedaling. The continued story goes on to say that this Chris Brown interview/performance was scheduled awhile back, that is likely true. The Lambert melee came without warning, perhaps they were wise to use such caution. Nonetheless, though, the key question I have to ask is, whose record label -- Brown's? Lamberts's? -- is owned by Disney/ABC and does it factor into what they're doing? It's solely about cross-promotion and multi-marketing these days ... Good Morning America has been getting very lame very fast these past couple of months, this is just indicative of how dunderheaded they've gotten.”

MouthyLily replied on Dec 01, 2009 at 10:02:47

“why would adam need to backpedal? he's done nothing that any other pop diva does- exploit sexuality for the audience to view. while i am not a fan, i see huge hypocracy in how this is being handled, and one cannot help but cry "homophobia" over it...”

MedinaM replied on Nov 26, 2009 at 12:55:18

“I'm guessing Lambert was booked awhile ago too. But you're right. Brown has gone on and apologized profusely while Lambert is still being defiant and saying he's done nothing wrong. I don't think Lambert needs to apologize for anything, but he can at least admit he crossed the line when he shouldn't have...and I'm not talking about the kiss since that seems to be the thing that all of his defenders are stuck on.”

Christian Leaders Scapegoat Gays on Marriage

Commented Nov 25, 2009 at 15:29:44 in Politics

“I don't think marriage is a horrible thing! What I think is horrible is the espousing of "lifelong commitment" as some sort of litmus test when the people espousing it are not passing it themselves. I don't personally care if somebody who can marry wants to do it 1000 times but that same person had best not be preaching about some unbreakable sacred bond that occurs through marrying if they're not living up to it themselves. I wish everyone who did marry put forth the effort to stay married in that "lifelong" way, but that's my own preference -- all I am saying is if "lifelong commitment" is a prerequisite for being able to marry, straight people are far from living up to it.”

Christian Leaders Scapegoat Gays on Marriage

Commented Nov 25, 2009 at 14:14:34 in Politics

“"pledging lifelong commitment" -- If only this was the example that straight people were presenting, I might buy more of their argument(s). There is very little "lifelong" about the way straight people conduct marriage in this modern society, multiple marriages are the norm now. There is currently a commercial airing frequently on TV about some woman finding "Mr Right" as her "second husband" that epitomizes the loss of such an ideal, this "lifelong" claim. Were their behaviors more in line with what they preach, I could give them more credence -- in particular since it is *our* behaviors ("lifestyle") they condemn with such vehemence.”

nolookpass replied on Nov 25, 2009 at 14:37:35

“And the children of these broken marriages are emotionally hurt. It is a sad thing, but what is your solution. To allow more people to marry and thus increase the chances of divorce and thus hurting more children.

Doesnt make sense to me if you think marriage is such a horrible thing then you should not wish it on more people.”

Why the Palin "Hate Affair" Will Backfire

Commented Nov 20, 2009 at 11:48:52 in Politics

“I really don't think the problem with Palin is misogyny. If anything, she benefits because she is a woman -- any man who conducted himself the way she has, with the contradictions and lies, the juvenile mentality and vindictiveness, simply would not be given any credence -- he would be flat out ignored and any hopes he had of being taken seriously would be ludicrous. Palin's appeal or non-appeal is based on the type of person she is or isn't, not her being a woman.”

maryyooch replied on Nov 20, 2009 at 12:40:30

“If Palin were a man we would have never heard about her after she lost the election.”

DebM replied on Nov 20, 2009 at 12:07:11

“Agreed. Our extreme dislike over this woman isn't because of misogyny. It's not that she's a woman. It's that she's a woman who is hypocritical, vindictive, not to mention dumber than a doorposts, yet cloaks herself in her "Christian beliefs" and sexuality as a means of getting ahead. Yet when someone calls her on her sexuality, she cries foul. And her "Christian beliefs" don't even come close to resembling the kind, loving and accepting sort of person I expect a true Christian to be.”

Mackenzie Phillips Slept With Her Dad

Commented Sep 26, 2009 at 14:15:52 in Living

“It's also usual that "small" sexual degradations of a MOTHER toward her SON lead to a diminished sense of self. Too few examine the effects of sexualization and degradation on boys as they grow up, I guess we're supposed to be "stronger" or something. Not to diminish the higher frequency of fathers versus daughters, but it happens with mothers and sons, too. The other key thing people overlook when it comes to either or both parent is that incest does not only take on a physical form, there are many incestuous intimacies that can wreck the soul that have nothing to do with the physical.”

“marty, I think I can explain her. To a Christian Republican, charity if better for people than government hand outs. Charity can be cut off at any time, and those who give to charity can make the receivers behave the way they want, you know, hat in hand bowing and scraping.

Government help goes without those requirements, although they do have some. People can not feel smug with government help going out, the way they can with charity.

They also can not make the person feel small with free lunches or food stamps now because of the way they are done.

Hope this helps.”

“At least someone finally said it, "blacks are far more anti-gay than other races". Going by the posters here at Huff, that would *certainly* seem to be the case. Thankfully, I have been around enough of a variety of black folks to know that this is not entirely the case, there are plenty who see the similarities in the struggles while also respecting the differences. As for that "lifestyle choice" crap, there is no gay lifestyle anymore than there is a black lifestyle or an anything lifestyle, using that phrase indicates a generalization and dehumanization on your part. As for "someone always knows" there are plenty of GLBT who cannot hide themselves, think of the sissies teased in grade school and so forth. Prejudice and hatred towards gay folks starts just as young as any of them, as its said "You have to be carefully taught" and so many are.”

“There are plenty in that gay "community" who feel the same way you do. I hate the noise the few have been making in the name of the many ... but I hate even more that people don't realize that those who are being noisy do not necessarily represent all of us, there are not enough examples out there for people to see the differences and extremes. Too many are letting those noisy folks diminish our cause, I don't see blanket rejections of other minorities because of the noisy few.”

Does the Bible Inspire Hate and Intolerance?

Does the Bible Inspire Hate and Intolerance?

Commented Jun 22, 2009 at 16:37:28 in Living

“The Bible itself is not responsible for the hatred spewed forth in its name. People who have hate in their hearts will find a means to justify it. They so often choose The Bible because it has to be taken on faith and is not easily proven nor disproved. It presents an unreality that people can then interpret and communicate how they wish, stopping any arguments or interruptive realities with proclaiming it as "God's Word" or something similar. People forget that Jesus Christ is but a major character in The Bible, there are many very dark, violent sections that a weak mind can take away and run with. Using The Bible to hate really misses its point, and aggressively maintaining that hatred is justified by The Divine when its behaviors are primarily borne out of human failings fogs over its true source. Humans need to justify the ugly aspects of our nature, and the way The Bible is written allows them to do that.”

“My impatience of late with ABC has been because they are becoming Fox News Jr -- they have an obvious bias *against* Obama, at least on the World News. This is the network that made a huge deal about him not wearing a lapel pin back during an official debate, so if anything this special is going to verge on the ridiculous because they are afraid to ask real questions, not because they plan to have a lovefest with Obama. Hannity apparently does not watch ABC.”

“Actually, it's been a lot longer than just 20 years. I watched an episode of "All In The Family" from 1971 the other day and it featured a gay rights person handing out a pamphlet to Archie Bunker. That was long before the marriage hysterics started, back when the human rights aspect of things was more the matter at hand. Marriage is not the only thing GLBT folk care about having government get around to, though the proponents of that are indeed the loudest (and most reactionary). Basic non-discrimination factors in employment and housing matter much more, and *those* have been being fought more (perhaps quietly) for far longer than marriage despite a lack of action from our government and organization within our communities.”

“I can tolerate inaction, and I can feast on crumbs. What I cannot accept is all of the time and effort that went into that hateful DOJ DOMA briefing. Its language was entirely unnecessary and I fear it speaks volumes about what this administration really thinks of its LGBT constituents. I do not expect urgent attention to minority matters in these troubled times, and I detest the hysterics that so many LBGT folks have shown for a couple of months now about Obama, but I also do not expect harm to be done to us while we are waiting our turn. That DOJ DOMA brief profoundly disappoints me, and the silence about it from Obama and the puffery on display from Gibbs and his ilk troubles me greatly. This batch of rights for federal workers is just tossing us crumbs, and may be a better than nothing foretelling of better attentiveness to come, but I won't exhale until something more concrete presents itself.
