Leadership, Obama Style, and the Looming Losses in 2010: Pretty Speeches, Compromised Values, and the Quest for the Lowest Common Denominator

“BINGO!
You said it all and then some. Obama is probably a one-term president. Bush would have been except he created the War on Terror and parlayed it into being a "wartime" president. No one is gonna buy that sort of thinking from Obama in 2012. Sadly, Hillary would have been as bad a waffler, I think.”

“Well, Obama already said that he doesn't care at all being a one term president, if some big topics he campaigned for can be realized in the first term.
Regarding to health care, he will not only have realized it in his first term, but even in his first YEAR of his first term. And this was his major domestic priority.
Conclusion: to me this president is even better in getting things done in Washington than he is at giving speeches.
Of course, he's not producing the miracle of getting anti-progressive senators all of a sudden vote like progressives. But who cares (other than some impatient and not very reasonable progressives whose job is mainly ... to talk), if in the meanwhile he is able to let them do what they never have done before: healthcare for 30 MILLION (indeed: million) more Americans, and getting rid of preexisting conditions. So-called progressive talkheads may say and write what they want, for those 30 million who will finally have healthcare, the world will never be the same again.
So small step for "progressives" (yes, "so-called", because how can you be progressive and not care about those 30 million... ?), but giant leap for mankind ... or, well ... at least for the US! .. :-)”

“Why is this so friggin' hard? The voters are talking. The insurance and pharma companies, for all the money they pay off to the senate and house members, do not vote. They don't elect. They can't recall. The voters do and can. And they won't forget in 2010 after they were promised reform, voted for candidates for reform (including Obama), and then nothing that even smells like reform. Any democrat against real health care reform and a public or medicare option is simply against the American people. I expect that from republicans. Their negativity and "I've got mine, screw you" attitude speaks for itself. But democrats should be ashamed for being spineless traitors to the aspiration for a better America. And they should kick Lieberman and Nelson to the curb for good measure. Nelson, especially. If he wants to act like a republican, he should save us the grief and change parties. Lieberman - he knows this is his last term, that is why he is blatantly representing the insurance companies as if they were voting constituents. After the debacle at his feet, he won't be re-elected as an independent and he will lose as a republican. Undoubtedly, after he's out of office, he will have a seat waiting on the board of directors for an insurance company. Too bad he can't come down with a condition for which his insurance would deny coverage. That kind of karma would teach him a big fat lesson.”

It was with the support of a broad coalition. So, yes, he is a wimp. He is the President. He has plenty of power to arm twist his own party's members --- if he wants to use it, a la FDR and LBJ.”

Grassley as my Senator and I have called his office over and over and written him several times, only to be told some lies about death panels and government takeovers. If he won't listen to his constituent, how on earth do you suppose he will listen to anyone else? This goes for ALL of the legislatures. If they disagree, they disagree! We can't keep giving them the whole house because they still aren't budging.
People need to realize how politics work. Those Democrats like Landreau and Blanche Lincoln would be voting with the Party if they came from Liberal states, which makes them the problem for all of Obama's goals, which ultimately affects ALL of us. What can the President do about their fear of losing their seat? Nothing!”

My answer to you would be to look at his past actions because they speak louder than words.
Pre-election Obama promised to get us out of Iraq in 16 months. Post election he said we would be out but leave 50,000 troops indefinitely. So, the answer is: HE LIES!!!
Since Iraq was a War of Lies and the justifications turned out to be fabrications (no WMD & no Al Qaeda boogeymen, WTC hijackers were Saudis & from the UAE), and we have a miniscule reason for being in Afghanistan (Osama may have been there at one time), I would say Obama intends to be there more permanently than Iraq, not less. He will not stop throwing good money after bad. It will be an indefinite committment and he will never leave, just like Iraq only more so.”

Some Simple Questions After Obama's Afghanistan War Speech
Commented Dec 02, 2009 at 01:53:36 in Politics
“I will repeat what I've written before. Everyday, Obama steps farther to the right. The noise about deadlines, containing the Taliban, and denying Al-Qaeda is just that - noise. The people for whom Obama is a tool want war - be they the military, the contractors, the multinationals. Maybe if we (the West, not just the US) weren't trampling all over their land, intimately involved with extraction of their resources, saying we like a certain brand is Islam that suits our perspective, people in those countries might not be inclined to bother with attacking at some points. In other words, Obama is pretending we are a neutral, aggrieved party (what did we do? after all - we were just sitting at home watching TV, minding our own business) . Not the case. This war will be a disaster. And unlike Bush, who was able to ignore anyone and everyone and still survive into a second term, Obama will become a one term president because of the war. The worse news is that when the republicans take back the white house in 2012, the war will still continue and the country's slide into pain on all fronts will accelerate.”

This: "Maybe if we (the West, not just the US) weren't trampling all over their land, intimately involved with extraction of their resources ..." is pure and utter nonsense. Those nations make vast profit from the commercial sale of their resources. Al Qaeda did not murder 3000 innocent men and women as an environmentalist protest. It was stated, correctly, months ago, that he was not a liberal, a progressive or a conservative, but a centrist looking right. That has more than proven itself out. What has also come to light is his inability to make a decision as well as well as allow those who have brought this country to its knees to call the shots. He was a failed President 90 days into the WH. He has no policy of his own. He is merely following the playbook left by Bush and Cheney and being used by the Neocons, the MIC, the warmongers, to get what they want. He has no friends on the beltway. Whatever believers and supporters he had are now all disillusioned with him and the Dems. I fear the Republicans will come back into power with a vengence and the end of the US as we know it will only escalate more rapidly as they destroy the entire country with their reckless and insane greed and moral bankruptcy.”
