Move Your Money: A New Year's Resolution

Move Your Money: A New Year's Resolution

Commented Dec 30, 2009 at 13:35:41 in Business

“credit unions are fantastic - I wouldn't consider anything else - they can provide all your financial services at a better financial rate. They return their profits to the shareholders.

I left a bank that was charging me 15$ a month for the privilege of writing checks against my money and I never looked back.”

“CREDIT UNIONS are the best.

We moved everything to the credit union over 25 years ago - our home mortgage, home equity loan and credit cards plus a car loan.

My CDs are paying out 3.05% for a 1 year. They have a broker that set us up with two annuities that have been really good to us. Retirement is 5 years out and we are sticking with this credit union.

I had to travel to india for work for 3 months and found out that my credit union credit card didn't charge fees for rupees to dollars exchange for my overseas transactions. We used it in Europe on our vacation. The credit union credit card also assigns you points based on your usage that you can redeem merchandise , money cards, travel...”

“beautiful cinematography, wonderful imaginary landscapes. suitably escapist story line.

Anyone complaining about the story line is silly and apparently believes corruption never occurs with immense power. It's our duty as americans to fight the corrupting influence of the power of our country.”

Political Labels 101: A Lesson for Republicans and Teabaggers

Commented Dec 24, 2009 at 07:32:08 in Politics

“geez. i'm a breast cancer survivor - the side effects of unnecessary screening was pointed out to me by my oncologist 4 years ago.

the teabaggers blame everything on obama because he has apparently been all powerful since his birth. it's bizarre.

good article but as pointed out above - the fringe thinkers if thats even appropriate never get this far in considering their arguments and conspiracy stories.”

My Blue Shield Experience Embodies Our Stupid and Wasteful Health Insurance System

Commented Dec 18, 2009 at 23:05:16 in Politics

“Imagine the experiences one goes thru when dealing with a cancer diagnosis? I have a rare cancer and went thru 3 surgeries and then chemo. My employer changed insurers during the process adding to the challenge. I positively despise dealing with insurance companies over the phone - its torture. hours and hours and hours. I chased down lost bills, miscoded bills and mysterious rules that had to be met before insurer X would let me see a doctor or pay a bill.

Single payer was never even discussed - absolutely ridiculous and makes me believe all our politicians are in the clutches of big money from industries.”

“My father, who is on Medicare, just had some skin cancer lesions removed from his scalp in his doctor's office. The doctor charged him $36,000! (To be fair, that covered the pathology costs.) Medicare settled on a much lower fee and paid it. I shudder to think what he would have gone through if it had been his insurance company. There's really something out of whack here.”

“Your story is why people who say we should be happy with what is coming out of the "health care reform" debate disgust me as appeasers of the reichwingers.

On the HuffPost thread about a republican who left his party, I commented that we need democrats of similar moral outrage to begin leaving the democratic party.

Unfortunately, there are very few moral officeholders even in the democratic party.”

When young women get breast cancer it is MUCH more serious. You are like one of my doctor's who told me I was too young to have cancer - he was wrong and so are you.”

“We had a health care support rally yesterday in Tampa and we had a contingent of college kids that were about to or already 22 and no longer covered by their parents' health insurance.

Some have paid attention and are getting involved. Pretty great to see when you consider how immortal you tend to feel at that age.”

I'm so tired of being the organizer in my neighborhood -- the younger generation needs to pick up the banner. Lots more to "Yes, We Can" than just chanting.”

“The end of life counseling was actually requested by a pro life republican - all part of the national reaction to the Terri Schiavo case. My mom is 74 - that case drove her to tears - she is in fear a greedy medical institution will keep her brain dead body alive as long as the money still comes in - She recalls that situation and tearfully requests again I ensure she isn't kept alive against her wishes.

Any hospital where you plan major surgery will request you document your wishes should the terrible and unexpected happen.

This is just another situation where republicans grossly twist a fact to sway constituents.”

Stop the Sexist Rants on Palin!

Commented Jul 08, 2009 at 11:45:24 in Politics

“Some aspects of the attacks on Palin remind me of a younger co worker. She is very attractive and athletically built. She dresses in snug suits with short skirts and heels regularly. One day's suit had filmy sleeves to which the male co workers started trumpeting it was her Mafia princess outfit. She thought this was very sexist ...

When Palin dresses to make much of her physical attractiveness, then goes on to wink and grin - engaging in behavior most folks would label flirtatious. Well - it's difficult not to understand some of the responses she gets.”

My family experience was my twelve year old sister who was a victim of incest - a compassionate doctor prescribed a d&c for her when abortion was still illegal in our state - my mother couldn't have afforded to fly her to Puerto Rico like the wealthy have always done.”

i think the palin phenomena is fascinating and unpleasant like a large spider perhaps. Many women are shocked that she is held up as something to aspire to - she has enough personal problems of her own to handle and apparently not an inspiring record in leadership. Personally I think the republican party puts their hopes on her being a female Tom Delay sort. In other words a double dealing snake oil saleman that's good at pushing people around. She seems to appeal hugely to the republican male ego.”

“I thought she was interesting when I was a teenager - I went on to grow up.

I reread a book to see if I understood it the same way later as I had at 12 and was very disappointed to find that she was just one of those people with a very immature real world view.

Her writings are where popular public opinion has moved - I have been aghast at people who have developed a belief that everyone who is poor deserves to be poor and is poor because they are lazy slug-a-beds. Criminal activity by the poor is harshly/sternly dealt with and brushed aside when committed by the wealthy because of course it's part of their superior wealth making that we seem to worship now instand of dealing with blatant thievery.

Isn't it shocking that Madoff who has stolen BILLIONS from people has been allowed to remain in a luxury penthouse? A poor man who robbed a gas station would have been in the slammer upon capture.”

It's more than sad - it's tragic because she's doing this on a national stage and is sending the message that she isn't worth better than that. She doesn't care enough about herself and her sisters out there.”
