Manhattan Declaration -- Who Are They Kidding?
Commented Dec 03, 2009 at 01:38:04 in Politics
“You have no idea how gay people live our lives or what we believe, yet you continue to make assumptions about us based in the lies in your bible.
Please point to scientific, peer-reviewed evidence that "having faith in God, praying and attending church regularly has been FACTUALLY PROVEN to improve mental and physical health." And while you're at it, please point to the evidence that shows being gay "puts one at more risk for suicide."
I won't hold my breath.”

“This has nothing to do with "politeness." People's *sex* lives are private and personal; their *love* lives, however, are very much public, and always have been. That's why it's socially acceptable for people to wear wedding rings, and to have pictures of their spouses/boyfriends/girlfriends on their desks at work.”

“It's needed because every time a gay or lesbian person comes out of the closet, it makes it more difficult for right wing "christians" to dehumanize, demonize and scapegoat us. That is why every time someone *does* come out of the closet, you see so-called "christians" immediately responding with character assassination attempts, like they did with Ellen Degeneres.
When heterosexism and anti-gay bigotry cease to exist -- or at least when they are relegated to the fringe of the fringe where they belongs -- then there will be no more need for gay and lesbian people to public declare their sexuality. Until then, though. Get used to it. We will always be here. Always.
Oh, and coming out of the closet also causes right wing "christians" to flip their lids, blow steam out their ears, and spew nonsense. And that's always a fun little fringe benefit.”

“If I'm hating gays and blacks, attending church in hell---it's news to me!
But I suppose you all would know more about how I live my life and what I believe...wait....no---that's impossible. You ALMOST had me!
Sarcasm aside, I'm willing to bet that a gay lifestyle--oh wait, the numbers actually prove this to be the case--puts one at more risk for suicide...whereas having faith in God, praying and attending church regularly has been FACTUALLY PROVEN to improve mental and physical health. This isn't my attempt at self-righteous behavior (as often as that may be the case)---this is only a statement that some behaviors are beneath us ALL. We are all children of God, only the devil would have you believe otherwise--and call good evil, and evil good...and in this instance, you have been deceived.
We still welcome you.”

“"As much as everyone would like to see fewer divorces, making it illegal would be "impractical," said Ron Prentice, the executive director of the California Family Council who led a coalition of religious and conservative groups to qualify Proposition 8."
LOL! You mobilized to throw tens of millions of dollars at making same-sex marriage -- which has no effect whatsoever on heterosexual marriages -- illegal, but now you find it too inconvenient to speak out against something that actually *does* threaten marriage?
I absolutely love the idea of this ballot measure. It'll never win, but all it needs to do is make it on the ballot, and it will gain national attention, further exposing same-sex marriage opponents as the cowardly hypocrites they are.”

““Aggravated homosexuality" as defined by the bill includes anyone who has homosexual sex with someone under 18 and/or someone who has a disability. You can also be convicted of "Aggravated homosexuality" if you are a "serial offender."
In other words, if you:
- are an 18 year-old and have sex with someone of the same gender who is 17, you can be put to death.
- have sex with someone with someone of the same gender who is deaf, blind, or in a wheel chair, you can be put to death.
- get caught multiple times having sex with someone of the same gender, you can be put to death.
My reading skills are lacking? LOL! Physician, heal thyself. The more hysterical your shrieking gets, the more apparent it is that you know your position on this issue is absolutely morally indefensible, and the person you're really angry with here is *you*.”
