The Dead Remind Europe Of The Folly Of War

Commented Nov 18, 2009 at 11:20:13 in World

“Well, that's bascially true, you know. If it wasn't for us, the Germans would have won both wars.

This is not to discount the huge sacrifice the Russians made during the second war, which as we all remember, they themselves help start. 35 million people ain't (to mix metaphores) chump change.

The Brits and Canadians were heroic in their own way. We didn't do it alone and nobody thinks we did, and only those who wish to denegrate our troops claim we even say we did.”

deluk replied on Nov 18, 2009 at 16:51:38

“"The British and the Canadians were heroic in their own way" How nice of you and how condescending. If it hadn't have been for the British taking a stand in 1939, when we could have stayed safe on our little island, Hitler would have prevailed and continental Europe would have been part of the greater German empire.

As Gore Vidal pointed out recently, the US turned up late in the 2nd world war after most of the work had been doneand only when they could be sure that they'd be on the winning side.”

“"Lebanese resistance group Hezbollah " Resistance to Lebanon, you mean. They're a terrorist group who want the civilians of the country they're based in to be clobbered.”

lkatzenberg replied on Nov 14, 2009 at 18:07:15

“This is the THIRD time I'm posting a response to this HuffPost blogger's post. What? Are they exempt from criticism??

Hezbollah is a resistance group that was created entirely as a result of Israel's occupation of Lebanon. Under every bit of international law there is, an indigenous population has the right to resist an occupying force.

Get over yourself. This terrorism propaganda is losing its credibility hard and fast. Now that Hezbollah is in the Lebanese government - and please remember that even the pro-US elements of the Leb gov't reject the idea that Hezb is a terrorist group - that fairy-tale is going to unravel quickly. As you can see by the article above. Even if Clinton denies it, the writing is on the wall - every one of our European allies has reached out to Hezbollah in the past two years. Wait and watch Washington follow suit.”

lkatzenberg replied on Nov 14, 2009 at 16:20:00

“They were born out of Israel's occupation of Lebanon. Their very existence is because of Israeli aggression, which they finally repelled in 2000, and then again in 2006 when Israel killed more than 1,000 innocent civilians, dropped hundreds of thousands of cluster bombs, and destroyed civilian infrastructure throughout the country.

You are propagandizing. Sticks and stones and all that...”

“"On Oct. 29, Honduras' de facto regime finally agreed to allow Congress to vote on whether to "return executive power to its state prior to June 28"--a convoluted way of saying "reinstate President Manuel Zelaya."

No, that's a way for saying "the sonofabitch isn't going to jail." The congress and supreme court aren't going to reinstate him after voting him out BEFORE the "de facto" regime took power.”

“A Semite is a person regarded as descended from Shem- a member of any of the peoples speaking a Semitic language, including the Hebrews and Arabs!

Another point missing is USA Tax payer collusion:

"Washington provided F-16 fighter planes, Apache helicopters, tactical missiles, and a wide array of munitions, including white phosphorus and DIME. The weapons required for the Israeli assault were decided upon in June 2008, and the transfer of 1,000 bunker-buster GPS-guided Small Diameter Guided Bomb Units 39 (GBU-39) were approved by Congress in September. The GBU 39 bombs were delivered to Israel in November -prior to any claims of Hamas cease fire violation!

In a 71-page report released March 25, 2009, by Human Rights Watch, Israel’s repeated firing of US-made white phosphorus shells over densely populated areas of Gaza was indiscriminate and is evidence of war crimes.

Human Rights Watch researchers found spent shells, canister liners, and dozens of burnt felt wedges containing white phosphorus on city streets, apartment roofs, residential courtyards, and at a United Nations school in Gaza immediately after hostilities ended in January.

During the 23 days of attack on Gaza, the UN Security Council, Amnesty International, International Red Cross, and global voices of protest rose up and demanded a ceasefire, but both houses of Congress overwhelmingly endorsed resolutions to support a continuation of Israel’s so called "self defense.

“You claim that Goldstone's report is "bigotry - pure and simple" - then it follows that you must think Goldstone himself is a bigot - pure and simple?

"Hamas also initially denounced it, issuing a vile anti-Semitic diatribe directed at Goldstone himself." It seems they are not alone in this: "Huffpost bloggers" are doing the same thing.
