“Those states are blue because this is where these people are. They are a captive constituency of the Democratic left and they can't be criticized or demeaned because without their vote the Democrats will lose every election”
“How do you know that? Were you there? Have you seen a video no one else has? On what basis do you attribute guilt? Race of the bikers? Race of the driver? Ownership of an SUV? Prejudice? Pro-biker bias?”
But I think that fact could be made more apparent in the program. While it is good that the show offers the victims the help they need, the producers could do a better job educating the audience about OCD. Why not branch out to handwashers, counters, checkers and other OCD behaviour? And I think it is disingenuous to believe that there isn't an element in the audience watching the program as entertainment. Why else is it so popular nationwide?”

“there is a show about that. it's called My Strange Addictions. I've seen people eat toilet paper, eat detergent, eat dish liquid, eat rocks, one woman has grown her dred locks to 25 feet long and hasn't washed her hair for years, constantly check locks, check the stove and oven, constantly count to three in their head (I do that), constantly add in their head (I do that too) it's popular nationwide because there are hoarders nationwide. people also like to see other people get help, people like to see people volunteer to help other people, they like to see people get counseling and to see what the house looks like when it's all cleaned up, painted, some get new furniture...I love watching them get a whole new life. you should start watching it again.”

“For me, it's the same as the Biggest Loser.
I root for the underdog - I want someone to overcome extreme odds, for their own success and happiness and also so that I can hope great things are to come in my own life.”
“I watched a few of the Hoarding programs then stopped. Having a close relative with obsessive/compulsive disorder, I felt the victims of this psychological condition were being exploited. Along with the lurid photography, they should have offered expert psychiatric commentary and help for the victims.
I categorize these programs as "Let's show off the crazy people. They're so funny to watch" Most serious psychiatric disorders are difficult for the average person to understand and the victims should be shielded from this sort of exposure.”
crmr1972 on Oct 15, 2013 at 18:18:55
“If the hoarders wanted to be shielded from exposure they would not have agreed to be on the show in the first place. They aren't being exploited. What you call lurid photography is actually reality. It's all about cleaning up a great big mess, starting over and feeling better about their "new" homes. Obviously something you don't understand. Stop trying to make it something it is not or what you think it should be. Maybe you should be cleaning up yourself.”
writerbeverly on Oct 1, 2013 at 14:38:10
“I agree, and I disagree. I think the shows ARE exploitative, even with the shrinks they bring on to help the hoarder.
I do think they are invaluable in educating the general public about this very serious disorder. Children of hoarders are often blamed "Why didn't you just clean it up?" or "Why didn't you help her/him?" not understanding the complicated dynamics that come with being the child or partner of someone with this disorder.
In the first place - how would you even know how to sort and throw away garbage and unneeded items and clean, if you've grown up in a hoard? In the second place, for those who've ever lived with a hoarder and tried to throw even one thing away, and been screamed at, threatened with weapons, and had the hoarder digging through the trash at night and bringing the styrofoam food container or whatever it was back INTO the house, it ain't that easy.
The real victims are the child who grew up in a hoard, or those who loved a hoarder and tried love, patience, reasoning, threats, begging, forcible cleanups, and every other thing they could think of, until they resigned themselves to living in a hoard, or left. It is incredibly painful and dehumanizing to have your partner or parent choose some piece of rotting garbage or boxes of expired coupons over a healthy relationship with you.”

“the people on Hoarding:Buried Alive apply to be on the show to get psychiatric care, get their homes cleaned out, get help from organizers and get after-care. these people aren't pulled out of the air. there is an application process and the producer goes to the house and explains everything and thy may or may not be picked. it is not a "so funny to watch" program. I never laughed watching the show. you must've to think others have.”
“Inflammatory rhetoric, based on faulty reasoning. How do you know the small balance account isn't kept that way deliberately? I have three accounts. One of them rarely has over $200 in it. I use it to pay utility bills online. Just before I pay, I transfer enough to cover the bills. Another account has my life savings. I NEVER access that account from a street ATM. And, I never toss my receipts.
I am not surprised there are people with balaces over $1 million. What do you think Oprah's balace is? Or Streisand?
Then, there is the internal contraction that poor is bad, but rich is bad too. Such crippling egalitarianism is what turned the French Revolution into a civil conflict, ending in a military coup d'Etat and years of war. Not an outcome the revolutionaries intended, but were nevertheless unable to prevent. Liberty! What crimes are committed in your name!”
“Commentary from people who make serious factual mistakes then spout scurrilous remarks when their errors are caught are dismissed out of hand in any serious discussion of issues. There are 435 representatives in the House, but only 50 in the Senate. The House of Representatives, which you pejoratively label the "LOWER HOUSE" [caps yours] is in fact much more representative of the US than the Senate. If you are a Democratic partisan, which I suspect you are, you ought to take notice that there are far more Democrats in the House (191) than there are in the Senate (57).
Your dangling thought ("remaining facts") makes no sense. What facts are in dispute? By whom? We've already seen your version of "facts".”

“So, Are you attempting to display your level of intellect or are you just one of those who respond to comments for the sole purpose of arguing an irrelevent point? I did not give the House the designation of Lower House of Congress. Did you ever read the Constitution? And as usual, when those on the far right find someone they disagree with, the immediate, and irresponsible response is to call them a Lib or Progressive. In your case you label me a Democrate partisan. Whaaaaat? Not that I owe you any explanation , but I am a true Conservative. You know, one of those people you on the fringe call RINO's. I label you as fringe because you have that elite demeanor so common with that group. I doubt that you understand what a dangling thought really is, and if you don't understand a comment, then maybe you should refrain from responding to them. If you are looking for someone to shower you with praise for what you seem to perceive to be a superior intellect, please look somewhere else.”
“Well, I've gotten 15 responses to my humble post of a few minutes ago.. Most of them complaining about lies from FOX. I think I should attempt to define what a lie is on the left. A lie is an opinion a liberal does not agree with. BTW, I was plastered with every liberal stereotype and cliche in their arsenal of intolerance against critics of their absolute ideology. I am reminded of the crime the grand inquisitor accused Candide of committing: he consented to listen to the heretic! [Pangloss]

“You could always take your rant to Fox Nation. You would get a sympathetic ear there.”
“With 935 comments and more pending, who knows who will get to see my humble comment. However, Please stop screaming about Fox News.I would like to point out that NBC, ABC CBS and just about every news organization in the US unabashedly leans to the left or extreme left. They just take their news directly from the White House and reports uncritically, while omitting any news that might make the Democrats look bad, such as Benghazi. They are following the example of the party-controlled German press during WW2. At the end of the war, the German people were shocked to discover the concentration camps. The existence of the camps was withheld from German press reports during the war, the same way the left wing press now omits inconvenient reports about the Obama administration.”
Stanley Bonk on Dec 11, 2012 at 01:34:19
“Don't start me on Benghazi, Michael. I've been following it from day one, not only here but on FOX and more importantly for the story as it stands today, WorldNet Daily and the Daily Caller. Let me just refer you to those sites and compare them to the official story. You'll understand what I'm talking about. There are ambiguities in the original accounts. The far right, the same people who buy into Area 51, have filled in the gaps with all sorts of unseemly speculation presented as facts. The CIA is involved, they had some kind of secret operation going on, either in or adjacent to the embassy. As usual they're not talking about it. The story Susan Rice went on the Sunday chats with was handed to her by the CIA. She repeated it without questioning the account. In time, the truth will come out in secret hearings with the senate intelligence committe the way they always do. Until then, everything else is idle speculation on the part of people who have no way of knowing what actually happened.”

“not so. Recent polling shows that the vast majority of news that makes it to the public is made up of con radio and FOX news. The other recent finding is that FOX news listeners are by far the least informed.”

“Mike, I saw your comment...I think your perception is partly correct. I think the news media leans toward the left too but not for the same reasons you do. For the most part the news media (except fox) doesn't trying to turn everything they perceive wrong with this administration into a political advantage. It's sort of the only perspective Fox News seems to have. They Obama bash constantly. Okay, we get it they don't like Obama, but they cannot seem to report any news unless they are blaming the current administration.
Reasonable people just don't see things the way Fox does. So many problems are not the result of the Obama presidency...its the result of 8 years of the republican president George Bush, who Fox never mentions and 4 years of republican obstructionism. At least that's the way the majority of the country feel and that, in part, is why President Obama was elected to a 2nd term. I think the republicans ought to cooperate with the President this time around and see if his policies will actually work. The Dems did this for 8 years when Bush was President. Give this President the same respect. If his policies work for the majority of Americans GREAT! If not in 4 years the country will have an opportunity to elect a republican president to move forward (or backward) with. Just cooperate for now.”

“It's still AWESOME to see FOX get called out live on FOX for being exactly what they are.
And by a Pulitzer prize winner no less!
I know the belief is that MSNBC is to the Dems what Fox is to the GOP. However, it's not nearly the case. Melissa Harris Perry got all over Obama Sunday. Rachel Maddow has no problem coming down on him or other Democrats too. Yes, the network leans right, but there is no comparison on the actual reporting and sourcing. It's up to the viewer to fact check/verify- sadly Fox viewers are far less likely to do so.”
Gnarkill on Nov 26, 2012 at 14:30:32
“meh, i could almost agree with you if you said MSNBC but none of the networks above are extreme left leaning networks. ABC is owned by Disney for crying out loud. If a network doesnt condemn gay marriage, the president, abortion, etc does that make left leaning? they have those christian networks running 24-7 if thats what your looking for... or fox news too :D”

“The difference is that Fox reports proveable lies more often than those other outlets. I prefer to not get my news slanted either direction and I sure as heck would prefer about 90% less politics in my news, but lies are lies.”
“Lots of people pay their bills under protest. The Town of Grand Island NY sits in the middle of the Niagara River. As an island, the only way on and off is by way of toll bridges operated by New York State. To protest the toll, every once in a while a whole flotilla of drivers arrive at the cash-only toll plaza with $100 dollar bills.
Every year the toll takers are ready with envelopes of change for $100!”

“That sounds that like the beginning of it, the first two words (what I considered two words, now I see why, even if I say it fast, without knowing translation still sounds like two words to me. After that it sounded (to me) like three more short words "off oon yetta" I don't know how to spell it and it could be one, two or three words - I have no idea. The oon, the o's were like the sound in the word you not in the word now. There might be more sounds (I don't think so) that I missed if you can figure what she was saying I'd appreciate it. There is no one left in my family to ask. Oh it might have been directed at someone cause it was when someone did something that irritated her (me usually), maybe that is what the last part is about.”
“The Germans don't use political identity as qualification for citizenship, they use ethnic identity, as many other nations do. As long as you are ethnic German, you could be from Austria, the Sudetenland, the Swiss Alps, even Northern Italy (Alto Adige). As Hitler said "ein Volk, ein Reich!" (One people, one country). With disastrous consequences, I might add.
An Italian-American woman I knew checked with the Italian Consulate. If she could furnish proof of Italian ancestry and had never renounced Italian citizenship, she was entitled to an Italian passport. Many nations allow dual citizenship. Of course, it can backfire. A Turk I knew visited Istanbul and discovered he could be drafted into the army. He had to buy his way out. You can do that over there.
The US and France, on the other hand, ignore ethic identity. It is even a crime in the US to use ethic ID in many cases. Likewise, at one time, the defense minister of France was named Poniatowski. But that's another story...........”
