Hope, Change and The Long Road: One Year Later

Commented Nov 04, 2009 at 18:11:55 in Politics

“The conservative bent in this country has gotten to the point where selfishness is considered an American trait and expected of the "patriot" though they would never admit to it or label it as such. It's viewed as un-American to say, oh yes I'll pay some more taxes so that those less fortunate might have health care.”

Randy Bain replied on Nov 04, 2009 at 18:54:51

“It's becoming increasingly clear that many, many Democrats are either too weak to get this done or they are just as corrupt as the GOP. What's the use in becoming a career politician if your legacy is filled with meaningless b.s. and hints of corruption? I'm just one guy and it probably won't amount to much, but from now on I'm backing the Green Party. They unequivocally support single payer and they don't accept corporate money in any form. I don't agree with their entire platform but on the major points the Green Party makes the most sense to me.”

“The thing about apathy has been bothersome for me for a long time. I think a lot has to do just with the makeup of the US. We're like these 50 little countries held together by some constitution that people only have a peripheral knowledge of. Otherwise Oregonians could give a rat's ass about Texans and Arizonans couldn't care less about Pennsylvanians. And so on. Ya know, "together we stand, divided we fall"? Well guess what? We have 50 divisions. I don't see us standing much longer the way things are going.”

Americans Have Been Taken Hostage

“Obama's administration has been a real disappointment. The Democratic take-over of Congress similarly so. The Republicans, well, whatever about them. We the electorate took by faith the concept that if you don't like how things are going, you change it by going to the polls and vote out those you feel are not working for the country and vote in those whom you feel will. That's what we did last November. This is what we got for our efforts. Nothing.”

“Obama's been slowly losing me for some time now.”

NeitherPartyGuy replied on Aug 13, 2009 at 14:09:26

“Ditto. It's really quite sad. In the past I refused to participate in the political process because I always felt that nobody was really willing to fight for the me and the people. When Obama ran, I foolishly (in hindsight) believed that he was different. Apparently, he is just the same. Breaks my heart really to see that people will contiue to face healthcare problems. Hate to say it but this is a lost cause. I'm seriously thinking of leaving the country. So over the fact that politics trump health, that fellow citizens are too lazy to learn the truth and that money can buy government. I feel beat up and parilized, unable to do anything about it.”

Why Obama Must Truly Hate Bush

Why Obama Must Truly Hate Bush

Commented May 15, 2009 at 16:20:24 in Politics

“When I read the headline I thought the premise would be that Obama must really hate Bush because of the way he's allowing day after day go by with the constant trickle of new revelations about the absolute corruption of Bush/Cheney's admin just as it relates to torture and not doing anything to forestall it. But the way the post is written I don't subscribe to it. Obama doesn't have to do anything. He doesn't need to be distracted from his work. All we need is a special independent prosecutor to do her job and Obama can go about his business. Even if DOJ gets involved, there's no reason for pres to avert his attentions from what he has to do.”

GraceNeeded replied on May 15, 2009 at 16:43:53

“If it could only work that smooth and easy, it would be easier for President Obama. Yet, I think he knows that where people's emotions run high, that is where their energy will be used, thus leaving these other paramount issues in the backseat of most of our focus. I understand why he would rather look forward, I just don't think it can be done with something this big! Former President Ford made the mistake of pardoning Nixon and it took 30-40 years for many to have faith in our government again. Elizabeth Edwards is absolutely right when she says trust takes time to build, especially after it has been betrayed. The foundation of our government is the respect we give to our leaders and laws. If our trust is lost because leaders act deceptively and illegally and are NOT held accountable, that diminishes everything that comes after. Even if President Obama is successful at all the other goals of his first term and allows these criminal actions to slide, his whole presidency will be tainted. He must encourage the special prosecuter and investigation to clear his reputation from any guilt by association and stay above the fray with his integrity intact from these despicable abuses of power by the former administration.”

“Oh my gods, thank you for finally saying what has been slamming my sensibilities against the wall since I first heard McCain say this a week or so ago--and repeated often thereafter. You described it exactly right; and far more humorously (and therefore accurately) than I ever could.

AND YET!!!...no one is challenging him on it. I have yet to hear anyone ask him "Um, Sen. McCain, if I may, how does Sen. Obama's refusal to join you in town hall meetings ...make a F*CKING DIFFERENCE?????"

And the common folk around the country don't want to vote for Obama because he doesn't seem to be one of them. Apparently the majority of American voters only want to vote for someone who's as stupid as they are.”
