The Insincerity Of The Public Option Haters: Lieberman's Weasel
Commented Nov 23, 2009 at 16:47:04 in Politics
“If we had half the president we thought we were getting, wouldn't Obama be saying about now, no public option = veto? Instead, we seem to have a few sincere liberals saying "no PO, no bill," but with no hint of even moral support from Fearless Leader. I may never vote again.”

“It's "normal," I guess, for the citizenry to need to be dragged in the right direction kicking and screaming, via court order, primarily. Good luck with the Supreme Court we have now, though. But gay people don't have much to lose by "acting up," since they are so demonized already by the usual crowd who are always squealing about somebody coming after them, coming after their freedoms, coming after their children, trying to outlaw Jesus, the flag, guns, trying to enforce abortions....it's just endless non-thinking paranoia, it comes as a complete mind-set, somehow they seem to mostly win. So I agree with your premise: there is no motive to be civil.”
Myth Understood

“Caretaking my mother, I've been immersed in Rush Limbaugh, and it's worse than I ever dreamed. I certainly prefer the myth of the excellent Obama of good intentions to the Limbaugh myth of the America-hating narcissist Obama. Actually, there's some evidence for the good Obama, whereas the Limbaugh tale is pure fantasy based on prejudice.
You make an excellent point that "democracy," in the sense of expectation that the welfare or will of the citizenry has any influence on government, is also mythical.”

Why Is the Government the Health Care Boogeyman?
Commented Oct 02, 2009 at 16:10:54 in Politics
“Great synopsis of the disconnect from reality here. The simple answer to the question, though, is that this is a matter of dogma and faith, hence immune to reason or facts. The Land of the Free is full of authoritarians. This is also why it is so meaningless for any actual progrssives there may be in the Obama admin or congressional Democrats to keep playing the music for some "bipartisan" dance. That is an absolute rock wall because authoritarians are incapable of perceiving any information alien to their mental prison. Sad thing is, progressives seem to not be able to learn from their sore heads they've been bashing on that wall. Since there is evidence that Obama is educable, the cynical view is permissible that he is going through the motions with no true intent to produce anything recognizable as "progress."”

“Dogma and faith. Exactly. If people are pre-disposed to believe something, then the ONLY feedback they pick up on is what they are looking for. Everything else, like facts proving their assumptions wrong, are COMPLETELY ignored. This phenomenon explains things like Rush Limbaugh's audience. Limbaugh makes $40 million per year, has been divorced three times, has been busted for drugs and has been a failure at every shot he has gotten for television. What is this? The "profile" of the right wing? Well is it? Limbaugh is their leader. Have to give the Repugs "credit" though. They know how to stay on message. Watch Fox, listen to Limbaugh and the others on talk radio and you get the SAME talking points. Solution? A direct approach. Get the message out about the good thiings governbment has done and balance this with the LIES that Republicans tell about themselves and government. It's going to take a 1-2 punch like this. Doing one without the other is going to fail. We are going to have to get in the trenches and wrestle with the Republicans.”
Tort Reform: A Bad Bargain That Won't Fix Health Care

“You want better regulation? Hah! Trade private enterprise lawyers for big government? Regulators whose policies are subject to the political whimsy of whatever administration is in place, as in Bush regulators totally sittin around picking their noses and the Fed Trade Commission doing a Sergeant Schultz on Bernie Madoff? How do you like that Wall Street/banks oversight? Since the fear of lawsuits IS the only control on a doctor's negligence, since trial lawyers are the only thing that give the "little guy" a chance, I say, let 'er rip!”

“In a crazy way, this shows how much actually we in America have progressed. Obama is more reviled and hated by the right wing because of their ideological fantasies and delusions (than his race). I actually think that if Hillary got elected, we would have seen much much worse as she more than Obama personfiies for wingers their worst bogeyman fears, or should I say bogeywoman fears.”

I keep repeating my message that the non-thinking, fact-free fellow citizens this post is about cannot be reasoned with or reformed. Why President Obama is coddling this and deferring to it is a serious mystery.”

“So why doesn't President Obama seem to remember that "progress" in America has been a "liberal" movement, forging uphill, the best of our history? Why does he seem to think he can't lead that best of us? Is it arrogance, that he really thinks he can convert the entrenched regressive minority, or that he has to for some reason? I don't want to think about the alternative, that he's just a wholly owned corporate subsidiary too. But what are we supposed to think?”

But I almost agree with your last thought. Obama hasn't much of my respect left. The hopes he raised feel pretty trampled.”

“There no doubt are some participants as you describe. But I am closely related to people who constitute the majority of the mindless, murderous mania portrayed in these pictures. They are the same people who truly, utterly believed that Saddam Hussein participated in 9-11, and have been bellowing ever since for an atomic bomb to be dropped on Iraq, since the Iraqi people kept making trouble after the invasion. They think every woman who has an abortion is a slut, gay people ought to be killed, all hispanic people should be rounded up and deported, every Muslim is a murderer, Hillary killed her lover Vince Foster before decorating the White House Christmas tree with condoms, Obama is the actual, biblical Antichrist, and black people are lazy parasites on productive white culture.
I am absolutely not exaggerating. What they "live for" is hate, hate, fear and hate. It's time for the President to stand up and rise above these people and do the right thing. They do not represent America!”

Have you noticed how many of the "privatized" institutions have gone bankrupt, officially or unoficially, in the last year? The medical-industrial complex, already supported by protections against competition (Canada) and free (to them) public research, are fat vampires on the necks of the citizenry. At least Medicare is providing care, while the insurance bureaucrats are figuring out how not to.”
