“many of the women who work have to work in order to survive - not for fulfillment or - perhaps it is a socio-economic phenomenon rather than a person related, i.e. mom, thing? poor people have poor nutrition, poor moms and kids included.”
“anything better? not sure if this response is facetious or not - what could be better than a news show that doesn't get its funding from some corporation but is funded by viewers and is completely independent of corporate funding and, hence, above the mainstream propaganda that passes as the 'news' in most american households. amy goodman may not be slick but her segments are an in-depth analysis that most americans eschew because it is not entertaining, often painful, and doesn't allow them to feel superior to the rest of the world. so, no, i got nothing better than democracynow on tv. there are books of course and articles but that is probably way to much work for most americans.”
“yes, but his actions in office nowhere near approaches what he said he would FIGHT for on the campaign trail. as far as i am concerned, if obama had truly fought for what he said he believed in - public option, closing gitmo, ending the war in iraq, regulatory reform for wall street and the banks, etc, etc, etc, - if he fought and lost his base would not be so incensed. instead, from the get go he followed in george's footsteps in terms of the wars and in clinton's footsteps in terms of fiscal policy - appointing clintonites - the very men who helped to orchestrate this fiscal crisis (summers, rubin, geithner) to key positions in his administration and marginalized progressive voices like steiglitz and volcker. that is why obama has no credibility with his progressive base. not only didn't he fight for the issues he campaigned on he actively worked against those very issues -”
“beautifully said and sadly reflective of a lot of people's sentiments here - f&f bluesky - !
if you haven't seen it already you might enjoy the chris hedges interview on democracynow(linktv) it really provides insight into obama specifically and the so-called 'liberal' class in general - and why, as you said, he is doing exactly what he intended to do all along with the blessings of the oddest power structure - almost the entire democratic party.
also if you haven't read it already which it sounds like you have from your comment i bet you'd 'enjoy' hodges: the mendacity of hope - although enjoy is probably the wrong word. both the interview with hedges and hodges book are extremely informative.”
