“That made me cry. This should not happen anywhere, let alone in the United States of America. I lost my father to cancer when I was just 9 years old. The treatments were so primitive then, that was the biggest problem - surgery and radiation were all that really existed, but my family did not have money either and my mom paid $10 a month to the oncologist for the longest time before he finally waived the remaining balance. At least that was actually compassionate -- that would NEVER happen today. Today they will force people into bankruptcy and foreclosure in order to get every red cent out of them. Shame on all of us for putting up with this! Anyone who is NOT outraged is NOT paying attention!”

“for years, i lived down the street from a chicago public high school, frantically calling police every time one of these melees went down (once a week!) and taking innocent bystanders into my house . . . if the cops did show, it was one car that sped down the street and kept going . . . when i did talk to the police at community meetings, they didn't seem to understand why i would care about a bunch of gang bangers and advocated that i just "let them kill each other"

“I raise chickens as a hobby, and many are pets (all the others are named Nugget). However, I can't keep every rooster that hatches. If you have more than 1 rooster for every 8-10 hens, they end up fighting and over-mating the hens to the point of not having any back feathers. So you have to kill them. They only choices are when and how. Crushing them quickly, because just-hatched chicks are very fragile, seems like a viable method of execution. Would you prefer the alternatives... breaking their necks, electrocution, suffocation, freezing, slittng their throats, or poisonous gas?
You can also wait until they're 5-6 months old. If you let them live longer than that, hormones turn the meat dark, tough, and gamey. I've butchered a few that weren't fit to eat.”
