“Sorry about that, Guittard is difficult to find as stores have dropped it, and Lindt is not a USA based company.”

deaniac1 on May 29, 2014 at 00:32:50

“Oh. They call it Collection Etienne now and it sells in the supermarket, and I know Lindt is not American, but since the US doesn't grow chocolate on its own, I figure trying to get Free Trade chocolate and good quality ingredients is just as good. However, there is current controversy with Lindt, so I'm holding off with buying their products until I find out more. But my point was that there are plenty of really good chocolatiers in the US who are not Hershey.”

“Hersheys chocolate is excellent.. Yes, buying American is the thing to do, however, have you ever tried to do that for most of your goods? Its near impossible, read the fine print, some things may appear to be made here but when you read further, they are products that werent made entirely in the USA. YES USA...but if they keep shipping all of our jobs over seas for cheaper labor, nothing is going to change.”

““I’ve made millions of dollars the last few years, more than I ever imagined, and yet many friends of mine, and people who work for me, cannot afford to buy a modest home in the Bay Area,” ....................If he is making so much money why cant his employees afford a modest home? Why not pay your employees better...”

big art on Jun 2, 2014 at 21:29:19

“A modest home in the Bay Area is very expensive. Even an individual making 20% more than the national median income of an entire household cannot afford a home in this area. Say his employees already make $60k a year, and he gives enough to six of them to double their salary to $120k a year. Now everyone here would be posting that he could have donated that money elsewhere, and that these wage earners already had a decent living wage to begin with.

But we do know that this act of kindness might create more awareness and perhaps encourage more people to give, and is certainly going to touch the lives of many more individuals than concentrating the giving to just a few benefactors.

In the end, there is little that one individual person spending $365k/year in donations can do. It is also not for us to decide who needs the money more, or to whom he should give it to. It is his hard earned money, and better that he does it this way then to spend it on "hookers and blow."

I just don't understand why everyone is so quick to jump in and tell this guy how he should be giving away his money. These posts are overwhelmingly discouraging for a person who has decided to give away his hard earned cash.”

Dete Meserve on May 27, 2014 at 11:43:17

“Hidden Cash has said that he gives to other charities. And we don't know that his employees—if he still has any—aren't paid well, do we?”

Autora on May 26, 2014 at 20:11:27

“You do know that it takes almost half a million dollars to buy a home in San Francisco, and that your income has to be no less 140K to maintain it? That would be some raise.”

Bill McGillicutty on May 26, 2014 at 17:14:30

“I have zero interest in defending this dollar-distributor but from what I've read about the Bay Area I'd think it's quite possible he pays a good, fair salary for some (lower-level, lower-skilled, lower-responsibility) jobs, and the salary would be more than adequate for a decent standard of living in most places beyond the Bay Area, but within it, prices for everything (esp. buying or renting a home) are just so ludicrously high, they're effectively only available to the upper-upper middle class and beyond, and that's the extent of it.”

When are they going to spend as much time, energy and money into helping this country move forward at a faster pace? They have accomplished nothing, only filibusters, and never have anything to offer, in place of everything they have denied the American people.”

“I dont support Guantanamo Bay, where did you get that from? Are you seriously comparing the two? Of course all of this affects me, I am a humanitarian, you dont know a thing about me, I care plenty about others, where did you get the idea that if it doesnt have a direct impact on myself that I dont care about how other people are being treated? WTF are you rambling on about? This has nothing to do with being physically or mentally abused. What is going to happen to my or my family if I continue to not freak out because other people can obtain personal information about myself? The point is that The Patriot Act was started a long time ago, no one even knew it existed until Snowden, just how has it had a negative impact on anyone?”

“Anyone that wants information about you or phone calls can do so.. its not just the government that can get hold of that...and to be honest, I dont give a poop about something that has been in play since the Patriot Act was initiated, it hasnt had a negative impact on my personal or work life..I have nothing they would be interested in wasting their time with, who cares if they know who I called and how long I stayed on the phone, or who I am interacting with on line? The government isnt the only source that can obtain this information.”

“I agree considering that they can look all they want and will find nothing. But it is the principal of the act, if they're allowed to break the law when they want, what makes you believe that it won't stop there? So you support Guantanamo even when it denies due process and human rights?? After all, it doesn't affect you, but when it starts to happen to your family members, it may be to late to stop. That's the point, where does it end if people like you say it's okay?? When they decide it's your Brother or Sister??”
