Private Student Loans Would Be Killed By House Bill

“I have Sallie Mae AND government loans...my government loans are quite a bit larger, but at a 2% interest, they drop as I pay. My smaller Sallie Mae loans at 8%, though smaller total loans...never move or drop as I pay...the sooner I get my loans paid down/paid off...the sooner I can go back to school for my higher level education. It is frustrating to make extra payments on a loan that is a fraction of my larger loan and still not see it move...I knew when I took the private loan that it was not a great idea...but they had just passed legislation and for me at that time...that was all that was available...it enabled me to graduate and join the workforce (whose wages haven't risen in 10 years)....but private loans are not the way to go for sure and if it were easier to get more government loans for my continued education, then that is the way I would certainly want to go.”

“I appreciated your story until the phrase "There are days I think I might actually be turning into a Republican! lol"...I realize you are kidding...but that is such a falsehood. Because someone lives within their means relays that they are a Republican? God, I hope not...to me, living within your means is a necessity and a goal - something I am proud of when I am able to do it, and something I am disappointed in myself for when I am unable to do it.
If you didn't care that what happened to you could happen to others and now that you're set...forget any laws that might prevent that from happening to someone else...then yes, you are probably turning into a repub.
But if you want your tax dollars spent on programs that support a middle class in America and protect the American workforce so that we can grow back a healthy middle class then you are no repub my friend. Repubs want that money spent on starting wars and destroying the environment by 'drill drill drill' and to heck with the working people. I'm very happy for you that your financial issues are getting in order...the difference is whether you want a President and administration that works to prevent tragedies like what happened to you from happening to others.”

“Gosh, I think I agree with Mr. Robinson. It is an unfortunate truth that a minority of Muslim individuals have twisted their religion and commit acts of terrorism, and, that the Muslim culture proscribes dressing in such a manner that weapons and identity can more readily be hidden. Therefore, if one wants to be safe, reasonable people of all faiths would agree to that we all must comport ourselves in such a way so as not to to be construed as a threat to others.
Why don't all religious leaders agree and proclaim to the world that all of their faiths lead to enlightenment, just by different paths?
In my opinion, one doesn't even need to be religious to be enlightened, just follow the golden rule. Thank God I was raised in a secular household. hee hee.”

France, by virtue of its constitution, does. In fact, in addition to "LIberté, Egalité, Fraternité," they've added "Laïcité" (secularity) as one of the cornerstones of its government.
Freedom of religion, however, has often been interpreted by some like Sarkozy as "Freedom *from* religion" which is not mandated by law here.”

“Can someone explain to me why devout Muslims wish to leave their Muslim countries and move to the U.S. and Europe but retain their separate Muslim traditions of separation of the genders, traditional Muslim dress, and Muslim law. It would seem to me that would defeat the purpose. It would be like the Chinese who have migrated to the U.S. insisting on observing Chinese law and dressing in traditional Chinese dress. If you can't or won't integrate into the culture of the country you have voluntarily moved to, then just stay where you are.”

2. if you think France would a better country when it behaved like some Muslim fundamentalist dictatorships, there should be a law imposing to all women to wear Christian headscarfs. Is that what you want?
In other words, I don't see why a French citizen whose (grand)parents fled a dictatorship today should be treated in a way that is equivalent to what is happening in those same dictatorships ... .
Following your logic, US citizens of Russian origin should not have the freedom to speak their mind because in Russia they don't have neither ... . That would be rather absurd, no?”

“So many things wrong with your post.... I don't know where to start. Firstly, there is no such law in France that prohibits a woman from entering a bank in Hijab. Secondly, she broke no law. Third, there is no religion that I know of that demands women to unclothe. Therefore comparing Saudi Arabia to France is not a good analogy, because a person's religious rights are not violated by wearing extra clothing. However, a person's religious rights ARE violated if you force them to uncover themselves. That is the fundamental difference. Fourthly, Hijab does not demean women. Making them walk around naked demeans women. Your view of life is backwards. Fifthly, the Bible also commands women to cover their hair. Read 1 Corinthians 11, verse 6: "For if a woman will not veil herself, then she should cut off her hair; but if it is disgraceful for a woman to have her hair cut off or to be shaved, she should wear a veil."”
