Move Your Money: A New Year's Resolution

Move Your Money: A New Year's Resolution

“Thank god! Someone is getting the message out! Bravo! And everyone think of using cash instead of credit cards. I've been doing it for sometime now, and it makes me more aware of how I spend my money. Everyone change who you bank with, send the message. Do it within the next 10 days.”

“I converted to cash buying a year ago. it's great. also bank locally....that's great too.

how about if millions of people switched out of big banks?

we CAN change, and this time it's not about waiting for Obama. check out William Jennings Bryant from the 1800's...we had debt-free money under Lincoln.

The Federal Reserve is a Private Bank!!!!!”

“The teabaggers are on to something, we are losing the ideal state called America, we are losing our freedoms, our dream is dying, our coffers are being emptied even as we speak....but they got the face of the usurpers wrong, because the corporations do not have a face, even though they may be recognized as persons.

The game is played with both teams being bought and paid for. That would be the only answer when you see both sides drop the ball, or watch plays that make no sense at all. The picture is clear to anyone who pays for their own health insurance that the system is unsustainable. We can't be paying 16% of our GDP towards health care when our debt is over 400% of our GDP. That is the highest rate for health care in the world to buy us a slot at #37 of world health rankings. A mandate for people to pay for something they cannot afford is bordering on the obscene.

So while we contemplate this stinking pile that is our government right now, people being evicted on cold winter nights, starving, and facing a life of quiet desperation, means of support gone to third world countries, realize who is the enemy. They are not too big to fail. Nothing will ever be right till we get them to release their tentacles. The government and the journalists who roll over and carry the banner of this "victory" should be ashamed.”

eljefejeff replied on Dec 27, 2009 at 22:58:06

“you should be ashamed if you and the teabaggers are successful in denying access to health care for millions of Americans who currently do not qualify”

carbolaw replied on Dec 27, 2009 at 11:09:48

“Very well stated about the face of the enemy and this is indeed the key to the middle class and working class recovery in this country - we absolutely have to understand the identity of the enemy. Reagan and the neoliberal economists in his camp did a great job of duping Americans into believing the enemy was the government and that corporations were part of the solution. Since that time, the majority of Americans have seen no real wage growth. In fact, for the vast majority of Americans the only household income growth has come from additional hours, and additional household members working. FDR helped Americans to see that greed and government that was run by the outside money interests was the enemy and under his plans and those that followed, we saw the greatest gains for the middle and working class and the greatest gains in equality in this country. All of that has been destroyed and we have come to so readily accept the fallacy that government is bad, corporations are good that we have been handed down a corporate giveaway bill that has been termed as "health care reform."”

“You cannot stop a runaway train in 10 months. I have been vocal about what I see wrong in the financial system, but remember the wheel was already in motion before Obama took office. I believe that very few in government saw it coming, peruse these statements made leading up to the debacle..

http://www.zerohedge.com/content/confidence-game-quotes

Yes, a lot of us would like to see him change course. The decision to bail out the financial system was necessary, but the hastily put together plan did not address the potential for abuse by the banks. The anger being directed towards Geithner, Summers and Bernanke is because they are operating under the presumption that they can fix the system as it exists. It cannot be done. The derivatives alone accounts for many times the world's GDP. Unless we fix this by imploding the system as it exists and channeling the money to those who are in need, this anger will grow. No one has ever been handed a pile of dung so deep. A little constructive criticism would be more helpful right now rather than bringing out the long knifes.”

Goldman Sachs Doing "God's Work"?

Wonder why China said this?

http://english.cctv.com/program/bizchina/20091109/102522.shtml

or why the price of gold is gathering steam, and the dollar falling? Why did India buy half of the gold offered by the IMF? Why is China encouraging its citizens to buy gold on the market? But GOLDman probably think they will not have to worry about it because they are going to make sure they suck every penny out before the implosion, in bonuses, HFT and dark pools trading, every trick in the book...no holds barred.”

Goldman Sachs' Black Magic, Here's How They Did It

Commented Oct 17, 2009 at 11:52:31 in Business

“True, if nothing was done, we would have faced far worse. Paulson's timing was exquisite, right before the changing of the guard, while he still had the republicans on his side. The biggest mistake was not to have checks and balances in place before they doled out the money. Paulson is the one who engineered essentially what was a blank check to the financial fools who bought this about to begin with.

Yes, we did not have a calamity, we did not die then. But we will slowly bleed away from a thousand cuts. Unemployment, ever rising foreclosures, dwindling tax receipts, cuts and elimination of services...the only ones with record profits are the ones that are using our money to game the system. Goldman accounts for 50% of the NYSE volume, They will have obscene profits to dole out again this holiday season, while a large percentage of the people are unemployed and running out of benefits... The backlash is just picking up momentum, wait till we have just a tad more of people out there who feel like they have nothing left to lose.”

Gay Rights Speech: What Should Obama Say Tonight?

Commented Oct 10, 2009 at 10:38:03 in Politics

“We ain't seen nothing yet, wait till we go into the immigration debate! Most other administration has kicked all these cans down the road. Recent history has shown that most of the republicans theories don't work, so he has to fix the financial system that is essentially on life support, he has to fix the manufacturing base, he has to fix health care, gay rights, immigrants rights, enforce the separation of church and state, to guaranty freedom and prosperity. That is a tall order. and highly contentious. The republicans think everything is just fine. It isn't, because it was, we wouldn't have all these issues, would we?

We may say this or that issue is not important....but they all are. Someone's fundamental human right is at stake.”

“Great, now everyone check your status before you decide who you are attracted to. Consensual sex among adults is none of our business, Most relationships occur where people are in constant contact with each other, on the job would be one. Yeah, if you are a superior, no subtle intimidation or threats please, but that is so difficult to decipher...Let's just call that a no no! Life is messy, rules cannot contain it. People are going to try to find out who they are, and what they want. Let them do so.

Notice, it was not the consensual partner who tried to blackmail him. For all we know, they could have very different feelings towards each other, rather than the sordid affair we are discussing.”

Does Hong Kong Have the World's Best Health Care System?

Commented Sep 26, 2009 at 23:30:18 in World

“I grew up in Hong Kong. The clinic was across the street, as a kid I would walk over there for whatever was wrong, lots of times by myself. The staff knew all of us, no problem! I am sure as time went by the bureaucrats changed all that. Dental care, ugly glasses, all free! This was under the british...just reminiscing. It was wonderful.”

“What you are hearing Jared, is that most of us here are irate because of the revelation of what the financial system has wrought upon all of us. It is beyond surreal how it could have regressed to this wild wild west state. I read what Geithner will say shortly.

http://www.house.gov/apps/list/hearing/financialsvcs_dem/testimony_-_sec_geithner.pdf

However, I have little faith in it. The regulatory world is essentially frozen in rhetoric. Naked short selling, flash trading, high frequency trading are being discussed, but goes on till the words stop flowing and the hammer comes down. By then, millions will again be subtracted from us all. Goldman now accounts for 50% of the market volume. Interest rates for consumer debt is raised without much ado, but it goes on till the regulations kick in, by which time, more consumers are left crushed by the burden. People are losing their homes, the bank will sell them short to someone rather than work with the homeowner for the loss write off.
We see all this, but it takes forever for the government to move. With every day wasted, another one of us is abandoned in the dust.

Only time I can think of the government moving fast, is when the banks faced a crisis. The speed and the massive cavalry that kicked in was truly mind numbing. It is too bad you do not move as fast and as decisively when its just people.”
