“I wonder where all the wealth in the DC area is coming from. The taxpayer's pockets, that's where. Contractors, lobbyists, politicians, insiders, all sucking off the government's teat. And now we extend another hopeless war so they can continue making money.

I'm happy in my nice middle-class suburb where I don't have to rub shoulders with those shameless crooks.”

“Sure, let them have their bonuses.

Then tax them at 90%.

Sorry, just dreaming. The people have no voice in this government. Democracy is dead.

History is not being heeded. Remember Russia and France- the have-nots got really mad at the haves, and guess what happened.

There are lots of angry, irrational, gun-owning folks in this country. If I were a "have" I would be worried, real worried.

For their own good, they should put a stop to this nonsense.”

Principaldad replied on Nov 09, 2009 at 14:45:32

“Your comment has a lot of truth in it. History has shown repeatedly what happens when too much wealth gets concentrated among the top 1%. The first thing that happens is the economy goes in the dumps. Then, the middle class shrinks.

If the disparity is not corrected then unrest starts. In addition to Russia and France there is also the US in the late 1800's (rise of labor unions). It almost happened again in the 1930's, but then the government stepped in and made the correction.

Things start to change when enough of the middle class erodes. That is when the tactics start to faiI (i.e. get middle class people to believe that they have a good thing or at least a real chance at wealth and then get them to believe that any change will erase that).”

Instead of rioting in the streets as the military/corporate/political complex guts and drains our country, the populace sits stupified by sports, entertainment, the sleaze media, fast food, and the latest celebrity cretin behavior. They have no knowledge of history which is frightenly prophetic.

“"I've lived a good life but I feel very, very sorry for our children and grandchildren. They are in peril."

Seriously! Anyone considering starting a family or adding to theirs at this point in time is making a very unwise decision, imho. One should sit down and really think long and hard about the direction our country is headed and what kind of realistic future their potential children will be facing. Of course none of us can see exactly what lies ahead, but with all the pieces currently in place, to me it seems downright irresponsible and selfish to be bringing more children into the country (or world, in general). I'm aware of, and realize the power of the natural instinct to procreate, but there's sooo many unwanted and suffering children ALREADY out there ready to be adopted. Unfortunately, the adoption bureaucracy is a whole other beast in itself.”

“"Just like every other man's?" And the women who knowingly slept with a man in a relationship, as so many of my fellow women keep pointing out? Are they not culpable? Please. My husband, brothers, father, and many male friends would take offense at your bigoted statement, as do I. Your bitterness is showing. Better to post less and see a therapist more.”

JonShank replied on Oct 06, 2009 at 11:24:57

“I completely agree. He is not all that funny; he does weird juvenile antics and facial expressions instead of intelligent jokes, and I never like to watch him. And now we know he is just a sleeze-bag. The way he came and announced his indiscretions with an air of triumph was so arrogant.
People's affairs are none of anybody's business. As I used to say during the Clinton-Lewinsky debacle, I would not want my husband, my son, my son-in-law or my brothers to behave as he did, but his behavior in private is his family's problem, not mine. To me, as long as he does his job as President, I do not care.
However, when public figures have affairs and they appear in public after it has been revealed, they have an aura of dirtiness around them, and it is repulsive to watch them.”

The masses have been sedated by religion, sports, entertainment. Distracted by manufactured military activity. Bankrupted by the plutocrats.

“I think Britain circa 1919 provides the best analogue of what awaits the US. The parallels are striking, from military quagmires in remote corners of the globe, a massively expensive military and huge deficits to pay for it, along with a society that got a little too used to be in the "number one country in the world".

I wouldn't bet your money on China, though. China has by far the WORST demographic bubble in the history of humanity, owing to its "one child" policy immediately after centuries of high population growth. A tremendous shortage of women doesn't help things. The next couple of decades may indeed belong to China. But after that, watch out.

My bet: Scandinavia. The have lots of land, resources, are totally wired, smart and healthy people and their demographic bubble is behind them - not ahead.”

Forget making nice to Congress. They can't accomplish anything positive- just exercise some leadership and tell them what to do if they want to be reelected. Pass Medicare for all. Period.

How to pay for it? Get out of Afghanistan, collect the money buried abroad, tax the wealthy up the kazoo, and cut the Department of Offense's budget in half. That will enable you to pay off the national debt as well. And weaken the military/industrial/plutocracy that runs this country today.”

But, there are many more people in the financial world walking around free and probably laughing to themselves, who have hurt far many more people, including you and me. Bernie was a diversion and we should now shift our anger towards the really bigtime thieves in our midst. Bernie has to live and die with his own demons.”

For those worried about the expense: if we retrieve all the money buried abroad by individuals and corporations, that would pay for health care, and pay off the national debt too.
