“Hey i'm white guy and i have not problem with the 1st Egyptians being black. I mean. the 1st human beings were black so its only logical. We are ALL descended from black skin people.. My fellow white people need to back off of this one.. It makes us look foolish to try to deny this.. We have plenty of other accomplishments.. Its ok to admit this guys..”

“People have a hard time wrapping their heads around this one because of the vast time frame, the culture of Egypt spans thousands of years. Its roots are in Nubia so yes Egypt's culture is 'black' BUT Egyptians appropriated that culture and made it there own - but the people of Egypt were 'brown', the Nubians conquered Egypt for a few generations so the royal houses were 'black' but they were eventually defeated. Finally a Greek family ruled for the final few generations so Egypt's ruling class would be called 'white'.

My point being is that Egypt was one of the world's first melting pots - and over its millennia has been populated by several shades of people. You really can't use modern racial slang (white, brown, black) to describe ancient Egypt because they are all and yet none of those things.”

Just by running in 2012 our whole nation will win. Dr Paul doesn't have to win the election for us to win as a country. He would bring real issues to the table (illegal wars, audit of the federal reserve, devaluation of the dollar, civil liberties ect..) we will have real issues debated in our country.. Not a debate about birth certificates”

Gaddafi initially claimed the Libyan protesters were terrorists and al qaeda elements destabilizing everything. And it turns out that not too far from the truth. The groups we are backing are also actively targeting the black African Libyans and murdering them claiming they are mercenaries working for Gaddafi. A quiet ethic cleansing. Is this who we want to back and help get into power if Gaddafi's regime falls?”

“The Chernobyl meltdown in the Ukraine involved only one reactor and radioactive particles traveling through the jet stream circled the northern hemisphere of the planet up to two times before the radioactive elements had both diffused and decayed to undetectable levels. Food supply affecting millions of people was potentially compromised. (do you like sushi?) The impact of this type of environmental disaster can be global in scope and we all are effected on one way or the other. In fact, Chernobyl isn't "over". The solution was to entomb the reactor and to this day temps are still hundreds of degrees Celsius in the core. And reports are that the site is eroding and leaking more radiation and needs to be repaired. Europe was downwind of the chernobyl meltdown. While distant in comparison, the Americas are downwind of Fukushima because of the specific path of the jet stream. Hopefully the multiple leaks are controlled and doesn't meltdown multiplying the global impact that Chernobyl had. But I don't think Americans are self-centered for being concerned about this environmental disaster.”

“Europe was downwind of Chernobyl? I mean you can spout off a lot of vague misinformed paranoia and get away with it on this site, but please at least get your basic objective facts correct. In the northern hemisphere between latitudes of 30-60 degrees the prevailing winds blow west to east. Europe is NOT downwind of Chernobyl.”

“Why are they telling us not to worry? This event is not over. Japan still does not have control over its reactors and as far as we know a chernobyl incident is still very possible. And the science community will admit they do not fully understand the potential impacts of multiple reactors melting down on our environment. Right now we are praying these reactors do not meltdown. What is wrong with being prepared and taking precautions? What wrong with wanting anti-radiation pills just in case? Why are the people who want to take precautions being ridiculed? To me its like wearing a seatbelt. You may or may not (usually may not) need your seatbelt to protect you. But you still should wear one.”

“While that advertisement is distasteful.. The facts are the facts:

Minority women constitute only about 13% of the female population (age 15-44) in the United States, but they underwent approximately 36% of the abortions.

According to the Alan Guttmacher Institute, black women are more than 5 times as likely as white women to have an abortion

On average, 1,876 black babies are aborted every day in the United States.

This incidence of abortion has resulted in a tremendous loss of life. It has been estimated that since 1973 Black women have had about 16 million abortions. Michael Novak had calculated "Since the number of current living Blacks (in the U.S.) is 36 million, the missing 16 million represents an enormous loss, for without abortion, America's Black community would now number 52 million persons. It would be 36 percent larger than it is. Abortion has swept through the Black community like a scythe, cutting down every fourth member."

Not to mention the increased likely hood of breast cancer for the women who decided to have this procedure vs the women who haven't ever had the procedure.”

I think you mean Black women and not minority women.  Back in 2006 or so, the US hit a level where roughly 1/3 of the population was minority.  By extrapolation, that would mean that minorities are roughly 1/3 of the female population too.  Blacks represent roughly 13% of the US population which would be in line with 13% of women being Black.

The bigger issue though is a socio-economic issue.  While it may well be true that while only 13% of the population, Black women may account for 35% of abortions, I would venture a guess that they also have a similar incidence, if not higher percentage of lower socio-economic status.”

“"This incidence of abortion has resulted in a tremendous loss of life" lol if it's loss of life you're worried about, don't walk around your yard, or around your house because you're killing so much life it's insane. When does it end? At what point is it no longer life? Sperm? The molecules that make sperm? At which point is it no longer a loss of "life". Almost everything is alive and we kill much, much more life in a day than there are abortions. Don't worry, life will go on, its a neverending process. Remember, the more humans there are the more mouths to feed and suffering for people all around the world. Population is our #1 enemy, and at this point we've obviously hit a cap because we now need to make genetically modified foods to feed the growing population. Our resources are very, very limited. Abortions and a woman's choice are the least of our concern. Leave it be.”

“Why? The liberty movement in the mid 1800's was lead by the newly formed Republican party. Its views on individual liberty & personal freedom were a perfect fit for an alliance with the abolitionists at the time. Republicans fought to free the blacks while the Democrats fought to keep them enslaved. I would think african american values are closer to the values of the republican party than the democrat party. The Dems now have african americans tied by the string. The perception is that the GOP hates then and that dependance on the democrats is the only way to go.. Well I got news for you. There are racists in both parties. And its debatable which party is worse.”

“Actually the citizenship issue isn't quite that simple. In the US Constitution the word "citizen" was mentioned 3 times. That was mainly in determining qualifications for various govt roles. Not spelling out who is (or for the sake of this argument, who can be a citizen) So an obvious question arises. Who was a “citizen” of the United States in 1789 when the Constitution was ratified? How was citizenship of the United States determined in 1789? When did United States citizenship begin?
The question for free blacks were even more confusing. As you may know, one aspect of the Dred Scott case turned on whether free blacks were “Citizens” under Article III, Section 2 of the Constitution, which grants federal courts jurisdiction over “Controversies between Citizens of different States. The main issue is whether or not the Founders thought that free blacks could be “Citizens” for purposes of the diversity provision under Article III, Sect 2. and it suggests that the founding generation believed that free blacks could be “Citizens” for diversity purposes.”

“Why is the debate about guns and not about mental health? Was it the gun that killed those innocent people or was it his deranged mind? A deranged mind can use anything as a weapon...”

Matthew Sommerfeld on Jan 11, 2011 at 22:15:04

“Why can't it be about both? We can do more to prevent those who are mentally ill from committing these kinds of acts and regulate guns better at the same time.

Yes, it was the deranged person who killed those people and yes, millions of responsible gun owners never hurt anyone. But can you please tell me why it's necessary for anyone to be walking around with a 30-round clip in a semi-automatic? Outlawing this would at least minimize the damage that these deranged people can do. If he could have only gotten off 10 shots before reloading, he would have caused a lot less damage.”

Albert Habichdobinger on Jan 11, 2011 at 22:10:28

“This is a silly argument. You can dig a hole with a spoon or with a shovel. You tell me which one digs faster? To spell it out guns are made to kill and the one the killer used is very efficient in it.”

RedDogBear on Jan 11, 2011 at 21:56:07

“Because mental health is something we only have a very minimal understanding of and minimal ability to control. Guns on the other hand we do understand and could control if we weren't a nation ruled by fear.

This guy killed and seriously wounded several people, are you really trying to say that he would have inflicted as much harm if he had had a revolver instead of an automatic weapon? Or a knife or club instead of a gun?”
