“I would have been willing to settle for a public option - a strong one - but at this point, I'm ready to fight for single-payer system. That's the only way we can stop these insurance companies and the pharmaceutical companies from bleeding us dry. The Canadian system is actually quite good, and there's actually a place for insurance companies to sell supplemental policies in Canada (if you insist on a private room, for instance). So there's just a much smaller role for insurance companies.

The insurance companies are the ones causing the horrific cost of health care in this country. We need single payer system based on VA and/or Medicare.

Anyone who thinks we don't already have rationing is wrong. But we also have shipshod, mismanaged, expensive and ineffective health care. A single-payer system would streamline that and save us money overall. Then we can tweak it as we go along to make sure it's done well. This mish-mosh that's being proposed is just unworkable.”
