Nicole Kidman's Baby Name: Sticking It To Scientology?
Commented Jul 08, 2008 at 17:19:21 in Entertainment
“Sunday is a pretty name and I've always thought "Rose" was a great middle name for a girl.
However, I was never given a middle name since my parents wanted me to use my maiden name, "Wilson," as a middle name when I got married.
Well, I thought "Wilson" was a swell last name so when I got married to a guy with an unspellable last name, I kept "Wilson" as my last name. Much to his credit, my husband was delighted with this since when we make reservations we don't have to go through 5 minutes of spelling his last name---we just use "Wilson."
My mother, a teacher, had twin students named "Iwo" and "Jima" since their Dad fought there. I thought that was totally cool.
Who was it who said: "What's in a name?" I'll be you all know.”

“My father went to school with two sisters whose last name was Hogg. Their father named them Ima and Ura. This is absolutely true. I have seen newspaper clippings about them.”
Joe Scarborough Disses Rachel Maddow
Commented Jul 04, 2008 at 00:18:09 in Media
“Every right-thinking heterosexual or gay person who can see and hear is in love with Rachel Maddow. She is so enormously eloquent, entertaining, educated and good-looking that it's no wonder that the corporate right-wing jerks who rule the media don't dare give her free rein and her own show.”

“I am a heterosexual women, but I have often wondered if Joe's clear antipathy towards Rachel is not only because she is bright, knowledgeable, and left, but is because she is gay. Remember he is of the Republican right who has intimated that Hillary is gay for many years,”
Rachael Ray Anorexia Lawsuit: Employee Sues CBS For $1 Million
Commented Jul 03, 2008 at 23:47:50 in Media
“There are fat, thin and in-between stars on the cooking channel that I love to watch and have learned a lot from.
Rachel Ray isn't one of them. As far as I tell, she mostly chops up vegetables and opens cans and dumps them on some meat she's fried or grilled, and yaks non-stop while she's doing it.
But this is beside the point. Hundreds of people get fired every day, some for good reasons and some for bad reasons. If this guy's firing is newsworthy, let's have a story about everyone who's getting fired or laid off no matter who they are or for whom they work.”

Lesson of Christie Brinkley's Divorce Case: He or She Who Has More Money Will Have Prenuptial Challenged

“In my car, turned up full blast---Madonna's music has made the miles and me fly. On the dance floor, her music has taught me how to "dance like no one's watching"- ---otherwi se, I know little about her but she and her music have given me huge pleasure.
Her personal life is of no interest to me but my personal life has been greatly enriched by her songs and her great performances.”

Bush v. Gore Meets the Second Amendment

“My husband tells me that until today's ruling, no resident of WAshington, DC, had the right to carry a handgun. Yet is my understanding that the crime rate is very high in Washington, DC and I assume there are a lot of would-be crooks running around with handguns in our nation's capital.
Since it's a well-known fact that the average (non-criminal) citizens know nothing about how to use a handgun, it seems like a very good time to start opening up shooting ranges with ex-military experts to teach all of us use a gun and protect ourselves.”

Tips For An Impending Divorce

“I think there is only one thing one thing to say to someone going through a divorce: "You know, no matter how good the outcome will probably be, there's still nothing as painful as a divorce." Just let them know how much you appreciate how much they are hurting.”
acidfree replied on Jun 25, 2008 at 21:48:18

Lasik Gone Wrong
Commented Mar 14, 2008 at 21:34:15 in Living
“I agree with you up to a point. Until age 60-plus, I loved my glasses and have always thought they were not only a fashion "accessory" but also after a certain age they cover a multitude of evils!!
However, last month I finally caved in and got cataract surgury, which I guess is very different from lasik, and suddenly my vision is perfect and I don't need glasses at all. I miss them!! However, it is nice to be able to see again, my cataracts made everything hazy (which is not always a bad thing, it's kind of a shock to look in the mirror now.)
There is always a trade-off, but I don't think eye surgery is a good idea unless/until glasses no longer work to correct your vision.”

High Heels And Your Sex Drive
Commented Mar 07, 2008 at 20:22:47 in Living
“Whatever happened to "moderation" when it comes to the question of heel height?
If I am exercising or walking a long distance, I wear running shoes or flats.
If I'm going to the office on an ordinary day, I wear classy little mid-heel pumps.
If I'm going out on the town, depending on the climate and location, I put on my "floozy shoes" --high stillleto sandals or pumps. If the evening involves dancing, I try to wear sexy shoes that have been a bit broken in.
I have no bunions, corns, blisters, crooked toes or other foot problems, I also like to go barefoot around the house, or "sockfoot" if it's chilly.
My doctor, my pedicurist and my husband all say my feet are pretty and in great shape. So girls, go for it and just wear what's right for the occasion!! We should neither be slaves to fashion or foot health.”

Democratic Nominee: What Is In Store For Barack Obama And Hillary Clinton After Tuesday's Primaries

“Speaking of Edwards and Richardson, I think either one of them would be a terrific running mate for Obama.
I hope they both endorse him soon and in their endorsement statements, make it clear that they would be happy to run with Obama as his vice-president. That would give the media something to talk about, none of it good for Clinton!!”

Why Do I Feel Sorry For Hillary?
Commented Feb 14, 2008 at 21:02:23 in Living
“I do feel sorry for Hillary, but not enough to vote for her. She's just one of millions of women who have put up with an unfaithful hubby.
No one seems to be asking this question: "If a sitting President's wife had sex with a male intern in the Oval Office, what would you expect him to do when it became public?"
I think we all know the answer: the President would kick her butt out of the White House and the nation would applaud his outrage and the ensuing divorce.
Let's go back a few more years, when Gary Hart got busted for his little getaway with Donna Rice (I think that was her name.) When they had the press conference where Mrs.Hart "stood by her man" I thought I would throw up.
Why didn't Hillary and Mrs. Hart both stand up to the microphone and say: "Any man who could betray me could betray the nation, by all means never even think of voting for him again."
Oh, I forgot---Jackie Kennedy could have done the same thing, except she was fooling around too. Also, the press never ratted on her husband so it was a "private" matter.
What a bunch of baloney this all is. Never feel sorry for a woman who is so insecure or hungry for wealth and/or power that she stays with a husband who fools around.
Especially one who thinks she's strong enough to be President.
I would bet about a million bucks that Michelle Obama would kick Barack's ass to the moon if he fooled around on her!!”

And if he were President (making her First Lady) and she found out he was unfaithful, I'm sure she'd give up her role as First Lady and move out of the White House.
She's superior to every other woman who ever held the office.”

Why Aspirin Is Pretty Much Perfect
Commented Dec 14, 2007 at 13:55:52 in Living
“My mother is 99 and takes 4 aspirin every day (2 in the morning, 2 at night.) Her health is remarkable.
Needless to say, I am following in her footsteps and do the same thing. I don't want to advertise any particular brand, but Bufferin is supposed to be easier on the stomach so that's what we take.
Aspirin has often been called a "miracle" drug and I wonder why it hasn't been the subject of extensive studies. Probably because it's so cheap, no drug company wants to spend money to study it.
Speaking of studies that have not been done and wondering why they haven't been done:
--Studies of families that have never had cancer. There must be a reason, perhaps one that can be translated into an anti-cancer treatment.
--Studies of people who for no known reason, suddenly became well. My grandmother's best friend had such bad cancer that it was inoperable, so she took her money and went on a six-month tour of Europe. When she came home, she was cancer-free and lived beyond 100.
--Studies of people who don't "catch" a disease that is afflicting a community. What is it about them or what they are doing that makes them immune? There were people who never got the bubonic plague and I bet there are people who never get AIDS, even though they are exposed to it.
--Studies of people who grew up with the worst possible parents, environment and education who on their own, "got over it" and became well off.
I could go on and on but I guess what I'm trying to say is that we ought to study people who are healthy physically and mentally as carefully as we study ill people.”

How To Change Old Habits

But as you say, getting started is all it takes.”

--Meryl Streep for a touch of class (but I bet she helps with the dishes.)
I would also like to invite Tom Hanks because I think he is the greatest actor in the world but I don't want to spoil his family dinner by making him go to some stranger's house.”

"High School Musical" Star Gets Nose Job: "I Had A Deviated Septum"
Commented Dec 03, 2007 at 16:51:25 in Entertainment
“I once was admitted on an emergency basis to a hospital in NYC that specialized in plastic surgery.
My problem was entirely gastric but the whole floor I was on was filled with teenage girls who had just had a "nose job."
Since I was about 35 at the time and a "Mom figure" my room was filled all days with these little girls who were all explaining that they had "nasal problems" which required the surgery. Yeah, sure.
I was laughing about this with the nurse and she said: "You should see the next floor up, it's all sex-change operations ."
Then she told me some of the things that were being done on the "next floor up" and believe me, you don't want to know.”
