What Ails Black Women, Part 1: Work and Wages

What Ails Black Women, Part 1: Work and Wages

Commented Dec 10, 2009 at 22:37:54 in Living

“i have met a lot of sgtrong resistance to promotion. i have applied for positions where the pay is better, or not as stressful, bt never get the position. if this was a one time thing, it wouldn't be so bad, but after 10 years of so........ i am no better financially than i was 10 years ago. everything goes up but my income. when the cost of living goes up, say 6%, bt your wage is only, say 4%, you have a problem.”

For Roman Polanski

Commented Oct 27, 2009 at 21:07:35 in Entertainment

“polanski's childhood has nothing to do with it. he should have the book thrown at him. every day people are imprisoned for crimes committed 20,3 0, 40, years ago. So can Polanski. I don't care how artistic he is.”

“I know several holocaust survivors who suffered much more than Polanski and they have never committed a crime in their lives.”

“i just awoken and turned on the telly to scarborough's show to see how mch i could stomach before switching over. only about 30 seconds. he said this is the most partisian administration that he has ever seen and began naming where he saw this at: stimulus, cap & trade, public option. lets just overlook the fact that in all of these situations, obama sought gop support and got zip, nada.

lets also forget that he had judd selected to work for his administration and was stabbed in the back by him. la hood is still working for the good of all. and lets not forget snow was in the groove prior to her meltdown.

agreeing with js was mark halperin. where is the opposition to tell their side?”

PallinAround replied on Oct 27, 2009 at 08:32:32

“Apparently MorningHoe thinks the definition of "partisan" is acting in favor of the majority of Americans. If that's the case, then I hope this administration will ratchet up the "partisan" meter a whole lot higher.”

“according to schutlz, the senate is compromising by allowing states to opt out of the po if they want. i see problems with that. especially in some red states”

osage replied on Oct 07, 2009 at 22:31:17

“What problems do you see? If the rest of the country can purchase health care insurance at a lower cost than the citizens in states who choose not to participate in a public option, who cares? They are only hurting themselves. Frankly, I think it would be career suicide for a politician to try to convince constituents to pay more for health care insurance than they have to. It would also simply be a matter of time before a lower cost public option would prove too good to pass up even for the red state theocrats.”

“Well, nobody should be surprised that the PO failed in the Senate. I've always said it would pass in the House, with a strong PO. The GOP are probably celebrating, but it is a short term cause of celebre. The PO will pass.”

VagabondSaint replied on Sep 29, 2009 at 23:50:43

“It hasn't failed yet. . .the Senate HELP Committee bill does include a public option, ands the two bills will have to be reconciled. Since the House won't pass a bill without a public option, and the President won't sign a bill without a public option, the Senate is going to cave on it.”

“How can he run for Governor if he has a conviction? That is a felony charge is it not? Maybe that is why Janet quit and took the post offered her by Obama. I visted my ex with the kids and there is no way I could live in Phoenix! It was over 100 degrees the whole week we were there. I spent much of it at our hotel pool or inside the hotel. Who wants to sightsee when it is that hot!”

Cloball replied on Sep 28, 2009 at 06:10:41

“First mistake. Don't vacation there in the summer. People usually go there in the winter, when the weather in their home state is cold. Second mistake. Your Ex lives in Phoenix. Make him move to Tucson. Phoenix is hotter than Tucson, and Tucson's desert is much prettier. Lush desert, if you can believe that. The hikes are beautiful. No laying around the pool all day there!”

“My sister-in-law, a nice if misguided person, has told me Obama is the Anti-Christ. She is a formerly gay drug addict who turned born-again Christian and "prayed away the gay" (became self-loathing) about 10 years ago, turning to prescription drugs and embracing the far-right (previously she wasn't political or interested in ideas at all). I don't think she is overtly racist, but I think Obama having dark skin adds to his "differentness" (his "anti-whiteness") for her. I think she would have a harder time calling a white person the "Anti-Christ."”
